The Cordillera Region is known for its rich
mineral deposits, such as gold and copper
found in the mineral belt traversing the entire
mountain region. Primary gold reserves is
estimated to be 1,964,060 metric tons and
primary copper at 960,634,900 metric tons.
A cordillera is an
extensive chain
and/or network
system of mountain
ranges, such as those
in the west coast of
the Americas. The
term is borrowed
from Spanish,
where the word
comes from cordilla,
a diminutive of
cuerda ('rope').

The peoples of the Cordillera could
be grouped to the following major
ethnolinguistic groups: Kankanaey
(Kankanai), Ibaloy, Bontok,
Kalinga, Isneg, Itneg, Ifugao,
Kalanguya, iwak, Ga’dang. In the
high lands of Luzon, music is
related to different occasions such
as life cycle events and occupational
activities and various rituals.
During the agricultural cycle, peace
pacts, courtship, marriage and
death rites, musical performances
may be witnessed in the region.

- is a famous epic that came from the Ifugao province
of Luzon in the Philippines. It narrates events about the
culture and traditions of the Ifugao people and their
hero, Aliguyon. Belonging in the genre of Hudhud di Ani
for harvesting in the fields, this heroic epic has three
functions.
