Fastcat Benchmarking Job
Benchmarking jobs was a critical step in developing grades and ranges. Some of the job descriptions
in the survey data did not clearly relate to the jobs in FastCat, which caused us to avoid those
particular survey jobs. Due to these discrepancies among the job descriptions, we decided to
evaluate the descriptions that most clearly matched the FastCat jobs. For example, in the Business
and Marketing pay structure, the Administrative Aide requires very basic qualifications, such as a
high school diploma and competencies in basic skills, such as word processing and simple
administrative tasks. We felt that this most closely identified with the Office Support 1 position
because its description involved simple word processing tasks as well ... Show more content on

We looked at organizations that were similar to ours. Factors that we included are the size of the
organization, the type of work done in the company, their profitability, and their percentage of base
pay to total compensation. We chose organizations that were either small or medium sized that
ideally were software companies. Large companies were also selected, as practically we are still
competing with large companies for similar positions, and the market continues to expand in such a
way that many smaller companies are merging to large–size. We also looked at the profitability of
the organization. FastCat's ROA value is 0.24. We chose to look at organizations that were either of
the same level or higher, up to a value of around 5. Choosing all of these particular factors allowed
us to benchmark against organizations that are likely in a similar financial situation as FastCat,
making them appropriate organizations with which to

Disadvantages Of Event Driven Programming
Event Driven Programming:
Introduction:
There are several up–to–date programming languages are event driven, by means of this is a method
that works fine with computers using GUI operating systems such as Windows. This kind of
programming uses events, actions such as a clicking on a button or moving the mouse pointer over
an object as the activate to run the suitable code handler, although, as the old style of user interface
design, every so often called flow driven, only in progress from one point at the start of the code.
Event Driven programs are characteristically used with GUI operating systems, as events are created
when the operator clicks the mouse on a key button or other item.
Visual Basic Overview:

VB does event–handling role for you, and in detail, the first time code will perform in VB is an
answer to such as an event!
The other main thought that VB has combined is the idea of an objects. Objects delivers a method to
connect code and data into a "set" in this method as to create handling and saving the code / data
more automatically. Visual Basic forms are objects, set menus are objects, and the so are the
inherent VB controls.
History and Advantages of Visual Basic:
Visual Basic was first presented in 1991 by Microsoft. In 1993, as VB version 3 completed itself
accessible, Visual Basic been the 1st priority of all windows–based programming languages.
Visual Basic always stay the superior language for the programmer because VB delivers more
defined code for a computer programmer than any other non–visual programming language.
In other programming languages, maximum programmers had to write the code for the whole
application user interface. In these days Windows, buttons, lists, Boxes and additional application
structures such as set menu were not built–in to the command line programming language.

Advantages Of Visual Basic Tutorials
Visual basic is a name known to almost every computer user from past many years ago. This is
basically a programming language which has been used in the Microsoft Windows in order to create
programs. These days the presence of the Visual basic tutorials have made it much easier for the
people to learn and implement this language making the best of their learning skills.
Using visual basic may turn to be a piece of cake provided that you have your hands on the right
visual basic tutorials. You may come across numerous tutorials everywhere but not all of them are
easier to understand and apply. Moreover, any mistake on your application part may lead to
disrupting the entire program which may cause long term troubles to your entire system.

4. Visual Basic Math
The computer system being a machine can perform mathematical calculations in the best possible
way. These are equipped with all kinds of performance ability ranging from simple addition
subtraction to square root and from the trigonometry to word problems. However, there is always a
proper form required when it comes to visual basic.
The format you may be required to follow when performing calculations you must follow the below
given layout in visual basic, however, divisions and multiplication are performed first and when
both are present calculation starts from left side.
Console.WriteLine((2 + 6) * 5) Console.ReadLine()
Console.WriteLine(30 / 2 * 3) Console.ReadLine()
The answers to the above given equations may vary depending upon if the brackets are given or not
since the meaning and technicality of calculation changes.
When it comes to division the following code is required to be followed:
Dim Divide As Integer

More Like Sterile-ing!: Detective Starling in Silence of...
Silence of the Lambs can be placed within many genres. One of which is the "Thriller" genre. A
huge contribution to why Silence of the Lambs is a thriller film is the character of deranged genius
Hannibal Lecter. Played by Anthony Hopkins whom won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his
performance, Lecter holds the key to the case Detective Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster
whom also won the Academy Award for Best Actress, is determined to solve. With such a situation,
interrogation is essential as many other films within the thriller subgenre of Crime Thriller also
show. By comparing Clarice Starling's behavior within the interrogation setting to other detectives
and women of thriller films, it is revealed that although Lecter ... Show more content on

at the forefront of Silence insofar as Detective Starling being held mentally captive to the

and even replicates the Hannibal versus Starling situation almost identically is Christopher Nolan's
2008 release The Dark Knight. In The Dark Knight, Batman, like Starling, is held mentally captive

the Joker has important information regarding the physical captivity of two figures important to
Batman as well as Bruce Wayne: Harvey Dent, a key political player that the Batman needs and
Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne's ex–lover. The way the Joker and Hannibal Lecter tease the detectives

Socioeconomic Inequality Essay
Universal basic income, (UBI), has become one our leading topics for a solution towards
socioeconomic inequality. Billionaires such as Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, have advanced the
idea of going through with UBI (Kaza, 2018). UBI tackles many diversity challenges our society
seriously needs solutions too. However, due to the enormity of UBI, it's important to evaluate our
decision to go forward; not only finically but ethically. For governments to implement a UBI, it
would take a major overhaul of their welfare and tax systems. For example, the United States would
need to spend over 3 trillion dollars a year just to provide a yearly distribution of $12,000 for each
person over 18. This does not include illegal immigrants or the cost of running the program. I will
evaluate the potential effects and ethics of UBI on minority groups in three areas: gender inequality,
social conflict and the effects of automation on the work force. ... Show more content on

Whether, it's the social norm of the wife having to take care of the kids after working a full day in

Manjarin and Szlinde (2016), uses Marxist philosophies to explain the current domination of owners

capitalist and the lower class. By giving basic income to everyone, it increases the economic power
the lower class has. Thus, they can unite their resources and be a formidable entity. They types of
conflicts can lead to rebellion and/or revolution. We need to evaluate whether the after effects of a

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt And Social Security
In the midst of the worst financial crisis in modern history, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt
signed the Social Security Act in August of 1935 to combat high unemployment and poverty,
especially among the elderly. In the process, he laid the foundation for a modern safety net. The act
has been amended over the years and consists of several welfare and social insurance programs
including the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), among other medical assistance programs.
Ideological Divide
Most proposals to reform Social Security can be categorized along party and ideological grounds.
Right–leaning reforms place an emphasis on private accounts and increasing the retirement age.
Such reforms are designed to reduce the future shortfall and avoid raising taxes (the S.S. cap), which
they believe will hinder economic growth. Left–leaning reforms seek to reduce wealth inequality
and increase benefits for current low–income retirees through cost–of–living–adjustments (COLA).
Both sides of the aisle agree that reforms are needed to ensure that the S.S. trust fund does not fully
deplete.
How is S.S. funded?
To fund these programs, individuals and employers are liable for FICO taxes. Both parties are taxed
at a rate of 6.2% on income under $118,500 and an additional 1.45% tax on all income for
Medicare. Social Security has been a debated issue in American politics as the life

Poverty Misconceptions
Poverty is when an individual does not have enough money to meet basic needs such as housing,
clothing, and food; however, this is not all that poverty is. In addition to the things mentioned
earlier, poverty is about being unable to take part in activities for leisure such as not being able to
send their children on a school field trip or have a birthday party, as well as being unable to pay for
medications. Everything that has been listed are all costs of being in poverty. These individuals have
to focus more on the necessities of life rather than their wants in order to get by on a daily basis.
There are many common misconceptions when it comes to individuals who are in poverty. Many
believe that those in poverty are lazy and living off of welfare, all children have equal opportunities
to succeed so there is no reason for them to end up poverty–stricken as adults, and an individual's
life choices caused them to become impoverished. These misconceptions have a lasting effect on the
individuals who believe these misconceptions. They are less willing to help make a change because
they believe that those in poverty chose the life they are living. While that may be true for a portion
of those impoverished, that is not the case for all of them. A big misconception about poverty–
stricken people is that they are lazy and are living off welfare. While it may seem like America
spends a lot of money on people who are unable, or unwilling, to provide for themselves, only

Living A Health Conscious Lifestyle
Like many children, I went through the ubiquitous "why" stage. I constantly posed this question,
even to the smallest and most mundane events in life. Filled with genuine curiosity and love of
learning, I desired to understand the ornate workings of the world. Unlike the majority of children,
however, I did not lose this fervor and drive to find answers. This inquisitiveness laid the foundation
for my interest in research work. Growing up, my family placed a tremendous emphasis on health,
fitness, and nutrition.
From an early age, I appreciated the value of living a health–conscious lifestyle. However, when my
older sister, Melissa, began to struggle with an eating disorder, I saw the detrimental effects that
occur when this healthy lifestyle is amplified to an all–consuming extreme. Witnessing the immense
ramifications and toil that this disorder had on her instigated my interest in the psychology of eating
disorders and led me to countless questions that began with "why?". Although this was in keeping
with my inquisitive nature, this time my questions evoked not only a search for answers but a
distinctive and enduring academic quest. By the time I was in 6th grade, I had confidently decided I
would obtain my PhD in clinical psychology. In an academic light, I sought to cultivate a
professional comprehension of eating disorders and dissect their intricate nature and the various
methods of treatment. My aspiration to pursue an active role in this field is chiefly

The Benefits Of Relative Poverty In Canada
A nation–wide social issue in contemporary Canadian society is relative poverty. Universal basic
income (UBI), or 'basic income', is a model which aims to eliminate it. In this response, I will argue
that UBI can reduce relative poverty in Canada. Subsequently, that the reduction of relative poverty
will also improve both physical and mental health as well as diminish income discrimination in
Canada. Since income inequality not only creates poverty but also is a social determinant of health.
To accomplish this, I briefly outline the current state of Canadian poverty, the tenets of UBI, and the
benefits that can stem from its establishment. Concludingly, discussing a measuring mechanism to
ensure that the relative poverty is being resolved.
Canada is a 'high–income nation', possessing industrialized economies, technologically advanced
industries, and high per capita income (Kendall et al. 2016: 24). Resulting in Canada much receiving
international scrutiny as it has a vast number of individuals living in relative poverty (Kendall et al.
2016: 29). Particularly as many as five million, or one in seven people live in relative poverty in
Canada (Kendall et al. 2016: 29). Constituting relative poverty is living below the standard of living
relative to the average individual in Canada (Levine–Rasky 2017). In addition, income inequality
acts as a social determinant of health (SDH), as it impacts the economic and social conditions of an
individual or a community (Raphael 2016:

Errors And Expectations Summary
The next chapter of the book Errors & Expectations by Mina Shaughnessy discusses spelling.
Shaughnessy asserts that there are many reasons why a basic writing student will misspell words.
These reasons include being unfamiliar with the structure of words, mis–pronunciation, not being
familiar with homophones, failing to remember or see words, and not having a firm grasp on
spelling rules. Shaughnessy spends the majority of the chapter giving suggestions on how to help
students improve their spelling. She lines out several key ways in which this can be done. First of
all, a teacher must believe that her student can become a good speller. If she thinks that spelling
cannot be taught and simply notes errors in the margin of her student's paper, her student will get the
idea that he is a lost cause and will give up on trying to improve his spelling. However, if a teacher
is optimistic and gives her student tools and strategies for becoming a better speller, the student will

The teacher must first help him to discover his spelling problems by teaching him to analyze his
errors, and then focus on specific rules or exercises that will help him to tackle the root of his errors.
Over time, he will learn to recognize and correct his errors and will become a much better speller.
Shaughnessy's viewpoints coincide with those of Constance Weaver in her book Grammar to Enrich
and Enhance Writing. In Chapter 9 of her book, Weaver discusses how to teach English Language
Learners to edit their errors, a very similar subject to Shaughnessy's chapter on spelling. Like
Shaughnessy, Weaver takes the constructivist approach and believes you must first discover why the
student makes specific errors. You can then assist them by providing active learning strategies
needed to target their areas of struggle. Over time, they will then begin to recognize and correct their

Pros And Cons Of Government Assistance In America
For a very long time there's been the debate over government assistance in america, admittedly there
are plenty of pros and cons on either side of the argument, in this case I believe that the pros
outweigh the cons. America should introduce a universal basic income as a replacement for all other
government assistance in an effort to reduce government bureaucracy, improve standard of living,
reduce the wealth gap, contribute to better working conditions and create social capital. Providing a
base income for all americans regardless of previous income would greatly affect the standard of
living in america. Replacing all other government benefits with ten thousand dollars per year for all
american citizens over the age of eighteen years old. Say a person makes forty thousand dollars per
year, they now have an extra ten thousand dollars to add to that, enough to cover daycare or assist in
daycare costs for a single parent, or to allow someone who works three jobs to now be able to to
work two instead. It's no secret that ten thousand more dollars per year would be helpful to anyone,
but for some it could be the difference between living on the street or not. Yes, ten thousand dollars
is most likely not enough for someone to be able to afford their own apartment, house, ect. Even so,
living with a roommate is preferable over living on the street. Having a roommate is the perfect ...

Race, Gender, And Social Class
Race, gender, and social class has several implications in the United States and how it shapes policy
and perceptions of those who live in poverty. Current welfare systems are not perfect, and
capitalistic policies do not work as intended to solve income inequalities. Given this, we will discuss
social inequalities and capitalism, the welfare system, and propose two policies that solves welfare,
and social and income inequalities. The first key idea from the materials is that social inequities and
capitalism are intertwined. In the TEDTalks, while the upper class, or plutocrats, are typically living
large, the lower classes are struggling to live. Additionally, due to the unfair system, the lower–
income people are more likely to drop out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The welfare reform law in 1996 mostly tried to solve marital evils rather than efficiently dealing
with welfare. It encouraged marriage and attempted to lower single parenthood. However, when one
looks at this issue, this is mostly a gender status issue rather than an income issue. Also, many
policymakers impose conditions to families receiving governmental benefits. Although I
acknowledge that these policies attempt to solve problems with poverty, I disagree with how the
policymakers approach these issues. Instead of focusing on incomes of each family, they mainly
focused solving social issues. Would you say that poverty is caused by single mothers? What if I
told you that marriage rates have fallen since the 1960s? Our policies are indifferent to these
questions. The policies mainly focused on the shortcomings of the poor rather than trying to save
them from poverty. J.D. Vance mentioned that low–income children face childhood trauma that
affects them, and the despair and low social capital these families are going through. Focusing on
the crimes parents do mainly out of desperation rather than malicious intent to pass welfare bills
would be even more traumatizing to kids. We probably are not doing much to help the impoverished
if we are focused attacking the moral shortcomings of poor families rather than implementing
policies to help families in general. Given these key ideas, I would propose both a guaranteed basic
income and

The Absolutely True Story Of A Part Time Indian By Sherman...
Imagine being in quicksand, unable to get yourself out. Scared to death of suffocation. That is how
poverty can impact people. It can last much longer than ten minutes, but a lifetime. The cycle does
not just stop there, it is common for it to be generational. Does poverty have the ability to define a
person? Poverty and personal identity can go hand in hand. In The Absolutely True Story of a Part–
time Indian, Sherman Alexie describes the devastating effects poverty has on an individual's
identity. Poverty has lasted in Arnold's family for generations, it has proven to create many obstacles
time and time again for him. Being poor drastically affects Arnold's basic needs of survival, it
infringes the joy he has in his life, and constantly reminds him what it is like to be a Native
American on the Spokane Indian Reservation. This all, in return, impacts Arnold's sense of self.
Poverty hurts Arnold's basic means of survival. He describes how his drawing talents won't get him
what he truly needs, "my cartoons will never take the place of food or money. I wish I could draw a
peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or a fist full of twenty dollar bills, and perform some magic trick
and make it real" (Alexie 7). The desire to have money appear from his drawings is understandable,
who wouldn't want that? The alarming part of his statement is his want for just a basic peanut butter

Is The Best Approach Tackle Global Poverty? Essay
What is the best approach to tackle global poverty? Discuss with reference to free trade, fair trade
and foreign aid.
Poverty, the state of being extremely poor, affects a large proportion of the global population who
are unable to access adequate levels of food, shelter, healthcare and education. Therefore, it is
reasonable to assume that reducing poverty is considered to be a net positive without addressing the
concept from a variety of theoretical lenses. The World Bank quantitatively defines those living in
poverty as individuals with less than "$US1.90 PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) per person, per day",
by these metrics global poverty has decreased significantly, from approximately 44 percent of the
global population in 1981 to an estimated 9.6 percent in 2015 (WB PovcalNet, 2016). Although this
is an impressive improvement there are still many people living in poverty around the world. This
essay will examine some of the methods used to combat poverty, as well as how it has changed over
time. These methods include both free trade, fair trade and their alleged opposition to each other as

In order to have a more nuanced understanding of global poverty today, one must appreciate the
historical methods used to combat poverty, as well as possible changes within the situations of those
living in poverty. Within recent decades, China has had the largest reduction of poverty, from 29%

The Writing Of Writing Courses Essay
Writing courses are classes that are there to help students become familiar with formal, written
English as well as come into their own as writers. The curriculum should focus on grammar,
punctuation, usage, mechanics, writing style, organization and clarity and non–traditional
compositions. These courses should be hands on, letting students learn from experience; there is
only so much you can learn by reviewing someone else's work. Yet, I have been in many writing
courses where we hardly wrote. This caused the students' writing skills to become rusty; we as
students lost interest and no longer participated because of it. Having a writing course turned into a
writing seminar is not only false advertising, but it caters more to the teacher's comfort zone and
need to be in control of what the students read and write. This leaves students trying to gratify their
teachers to get a good grade, rather than improving their skills. In A guide to Composition
Pedagogies by Gary Tate, Amy Rupiper and Kurt Schick, there is a section on the education behind
the writing curriculum that states:
The student writes the wrong thing, for the wrong reason, to the wrong person [...] he writes about a
subject he is not thoroughly informed upon in order to exhibit his knowledge rather than explain
something the reader does not understand, and he writes to a professor who already knows more
than he does about the matter [...] (page 156).
Writing intensive courses should be writing intensive to begin

The Basics: The English School Of International Relations
The English School of International Relations, often referred to as the 'international society'
approach to International Relations or the Groatian School is a theory which is mainly characterized
by its efforts to place itself outside of the polarization seen in the debates between liberals and
realists as well as by its commitment to the study of what an important contributor to the English
School of IR, Hedley Bull called 'the anarchical society'. Just as this term implies the English School
of IR acknowledges that a structural characteristic of international relations is the anarchy, however,
it also acknowledges that autonomous states create a society that adopts concepts of justice and
order in its judgment and its rhetoric. Therefore, this approach focuses on the balance of power,
international law and the spread of cosmopolitan principles. (pg.78)

For instance, in the last year of the nineteenth century and the early years of the twentieth century, a
commitment made between states to respect and maintain the non–intervention rules were seen as an
essential feature for preserving the international society of states order. Still, in the late twentieth
century and the beginning of the twenty–first century, states have started to give more priority on the
rules concerning justice and human rights. Therefore, according to Wheeler (2000) this shift
introduces the concept of the 'supreme humanitarian emergency' which refers to the circumstances
when the states will ignore the non–intervention rules, in order to accord more attention to the
human rights of citizens of that particular country.

Poverty In Rutger Bregman's 'Utopia For Realists'
Poverty is one of the leading problems in America today, and most blame it on the poor themselves.
People blame it on the poor's lack of knowledge and character; however, this is not the case. Rutger
Bregman, a historian and author of Utopia for Realists, explains that "poverty isn't a lack of
character; it's a lack of cash" (Bregman). Bregman provides a solid argument even though he never
provides an emotional overview of the situation. Although Bregman's speech, "Poverty isn't a lack
of character; it's a lack of cash," lacked more to the emotional appeal than most are used to when it
comes to poverty, his problem–solution structure and focus on facts, statistics, and ethical incentives
provided the strength that his argument needed. Bregman approached this idea of poverty with a
problem–solution format. He first brought to his audience's attention the presence of false
stereotypes in society. One of the largest came from Margaret Thatcher. She stated, "Poverty is a
personality defect" (Bregman). Bregman then uses this as a foundation for which many of his facts,
statistics, and solutions came from. Bregman then proves that poverty is not a personality defect, but
simply a lack of money. From this proof, Bregman provides a solution, "basic income guarantee"
(Bregman). He then proves that this solution is effective by referring to Dauphin, Canada, where
"basic income guarantee" eradicated poverty (Bregman). Throughout his entire lecture, Bregman
addresses a large problem

Case Study : Basic English Communication Needs
Basic English Communication Needs A Case Study of Students Studying in Australia Abstract:
Concentrate abroad has turned into an alluring alternative for advanced education in a substantial
number of nations on the planet. With the headway of 21st century and improvement of cutting edge
specialized strategies it has ended up less demanding for a person to investigate opportunities past
geological limits of his nation .Education has additionally been globalized and more understudies go

Universal Basic Income is the idea that all citizens should receive a certain amount of money from
the government, with no regulations on spending attached.Universal basic income is favorable as a
result of everyone gets their basic needs, for example, food, water, shelter, and clothing. In my
opinion I think that the universal basic income should function considering that it's a policy that's

due to automation. It officially became part of California's Democratic Party platform signaling that
the idea is beginning to enter the political mainstream. Y combinator research piloted a program in

Essay on Animal Testing
Imagine being a rabbit; a vertebrate and warm blooded species. Hopping around an open field and
eating all greens. All of sudden, you were captured by an unknown human. You start to rattle around
your cage figuring out how to escape. About "twenty–five million and 30 million" animals are
exploited in experiments; "half are only used through education" (Donna 7).
"A 40% is applied in basic research, the 26% for drug development, a 20% are examined for
products, and the 14% that is left is applied on education and miscellaneous" (Donna 5).
The inhumane cruelty affects the innocent creatures. Animals should only be used for education, and
research purposes. Therefore, regulations must increase on animal protection. Increasing policies ...

For instances, those involved in auctions and animals sold publicly are to keep records. On the
contrary, it does not support all animal rights; the law ought to emphasis those out in business too.
Beyond that, in 1976 adjustments were made in the amendment. In fact, this time it includes more
steps to those companies in the animal testing business (Donna 16). Each corporation is required to
register and keep records of the species. Again it had affected those who are employed in auctions,
operators, dealers, and exhibitors to be certified. Thus certified employees must submit an annual
report to congress. The reports helped the Congressmen keep track of the species; so living things
would not be mistreated. Moreover the act expanded dogs' safety. Hounds were only acceptable for
breeders, security, hunting, and as house hold pets. But there is a catch to it; dog owners must
provide treatments (Donna 8). Signifying hounds would receive yearly check up on their satiability
of well nutrients. However the act was expanding, it excluded most of the rights towards animals. In
addition to the amendment, in 1985 it was re–modified again. It incorporated the labs and the
environment of the organisms. "The act demanded laboratories to provide exercise and a physical
environment, to balance the pain and stress for the species, and minimize the use of drugs" (Donna

Research Process and Terminology
Research Process and Terminology
Laytoya Wilson

Research involves the study of something to discover facts and maybe even apply the findings in
order to change something. There are two types of research, there is basic or pure research and then
there is applied research, in which you really don't need both in order to complete a study but in
most cases is a good idea. Researchers have their own language, like doctors and police officers,
researchers use researchese in order to understand the terminology used by scientist so that they are
able to properly conduct research. The question is how will acknowledging and understanding these
terms in a research study help analyze the data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in using the term basic research and applied research, without knowing the difference
between the two one may become confused in the research and what is needed from it. With basic or
pure research, the gain of facts is the basis of the study, whereas with applied research the fact
findings are applied in order for a change to occur like in a drug ridden neighborhood. For instance,
two police departments in the inner city conduct a study on neighborhoods with high drug
trafficking rates and apply the facts of the study like what area is the most affect and can be done
according to the study in order to reduce the problem. In conclusion the discussion of how to
conduct an accurate and sufficient research process as well as the steps to take. I also spoke of
research terminology as it will apply to a career in criminal justice. The knowledge of knowing the
proper terminology, and how it affects criminal justice research, as well as how it is an asset in
evaluating, and analyzing research studies or data. Many of the terms used are also used in day to
day conversations and may have a different meaning to researchers as it would to say a person in the
medical field or the financial field. All in all this is a small sample of what the process of research
takes and the outcome of the facts gathered by the researchers.

Universal Basic Income (UBI)
Universal Basic Income Most people don't know about the universal basic income (UBI). The UBI
is a monthly check of around $800 to $1,000 for everyone, depending on their household, and is to
help people afford the basic essentials. The UBI could be a potentially good idea because it could
help end poverty, better school completion, and people could have more money if they work too.
Firstly, the UBI could help end poverty by providing money for homeless people. If homeless
people get around $800 monthly, then they can eventually afford nice clothes and get a nice paying
job. In 2009, London had a small experiment about what homeless veterans would do if they gave
them $4,500. None of the men wasted their money on drugs or alcohol and about

The Importance Of Social Justice
Social Justice is a double edge sword. On one side everyone is treated equally and fairly with
sustainable life advantages. There is food, clean water, shelter, health care, education and a living
wage adequate to support and improve families' quality of life. On the other side, there is the reality
of economics, war, prejudice, environment, poverty, and political influences. As long as there is
corruption and greed these goals seem impossible to achieve. Food and clean water is a basic
necessity of human life. Access to quality, adequate, affordable food and clean water should be a
goal of every government. However, in many places that is not possible either due to drought or
destitution. In some areas the government uses food to control the population. Many lives are lost
due to starvation for no reason other than lack of government management. Affordable housing
should be available to everyone. There are many opportunities to renovate buildings to
accommodate housing. Programs that give the recipient the opportunity to participate in the process,
such as Habitat for Humanity, need to be supported. This process gives people the pride of
ownership. The expense and lack of funding is the main concern. A plan has to be made to find
affordable clean housing.
Health Care is a basic human need and needs to mandatory. Everyone should be entitled to
comprehensive health care, but how is that not only achieved, but also made affordable? There has

COMPETENCY DEMONSTRATION REPORT I (CDR–I)
CE.1.1. Introduction
Many problems had come to surface for electronic manufacturing companies to increase their
productivity. One of the solution is to reduce human errors in a PCB production especially before
the PCB dispatch for electronic productions.
This project was undertaken as one of the requirements to obtain my Engineering Degree at
Universitas Katholik Atmajaya, Jakarta. The details of the project were:
PROJECT : Create and Design a checking device for single layer printed circuit board (PCB)
DURATION : December 2001 – April 2002
LOCATION : Jakarta, Indonesia
NAME OF THE ORGANIZATION: Universitas Katholik Atma Jaya, Jakarta
POSITION : Final year student
CE.1.2. Background
CE.1.2.1. Nature of overall engineering project
Manufacturing, including electronics manufacturing, is a major industry in Indonesia. To be
competitive internationally, manufacturers attempt to reduce their manufacturing cost but at the
same time increase product output and quality. Most manufacturing units use human labour to
undertake quality checking, in this case to ensure the path on the printed circuit board (PCB) was
not missing and that there are no scratches. These defects would cause the PCB to be defective, in
turn making the end electronic products defective. Subsequent market recalls would cost the
manufacturer a large sum of money – and reputation.
I decided to create a system for reducing human error in electronics

An Article By Arnett ( 2008 )
A Response to Arnett 2008
In an article by Arnett (2008), he makes the assertion that American research psychologists are
relying too heavily on research results that do not generalize to the majority of the population of the
world. Primarily, his two points include; the predominance of American authors and editors found in
American Psychological Association (APA) journals and how American research results do not
consider cultural variation (Arnett, 2008). Arnett (2008) assumes that American psychologists rely
heavily on research findings gleaned from sampled populations, as applicable to behavior of all
human beings. Evidence used to support the claim of the author included an analysis of six APA
journals encompassing a twenty–year time frame from 1988 to 2007 (Arnett, 2008). Findings from
the analysis showed American authors made up a vast majority of published studies and particularly,
undergraduate study samples were used most often (Arnett, 2008). Additionally, Arnett (2008) found
the editors of the APA journals were nearly all associated with American research universities.
Overall, Arnett (2008) makes a convincing case of American psychologists neglecting most of the
world's population with their research findings. However, his view of this topic is skewed and is
evident with his exclusion of relevant information.
While there is a genuine lack of cultural diversity in research findings in the United States, this is
not due to a desire to exclude any group or

Critical Analysis : Why Education Is Not An Economic Panacea
Critical Analysis: "Why Education Is Not an Economic Panacea" "The advice we would offer every
halfway intelligent young person with a pulse–go to college–is not, I argue, counsel we can offer a
whole generation of young people" (Marsh p.6). John Marsh explores in his article "Why Education
Is Not an Economic Panacea" the correlation between income inequality and lack of higher
education. In doing so he finds that education alone may not be a cure all for the problems faced by
many low income families. Marsh shares what he had learned through his experience teaching
impoverished students and how it is wrong to assume that education will positively effect someones
financial outcomes. Marsh intends to open peoples minds to addressing problems such as poverty
that may be the reason for a lack of education rather than assuming that deficiencies in education are
to blame for the problem. I believe that what Marsh is advocating is a "living wage" for people in
jobs that do not require a degree and he thinks that doing so will solve the problems of economic
inequality and poverty (Marsh p.6). Is it wrong to think that increasing wages for unskilled labor or
non professional jobs will solve these problems? In recent years it seems it seems there has been a
lot of public discussion regarding living wages. This seems like an interesting idea but maybe it's
not very well thought out, how is it accomplished? Who determines what the wages will be? And
why is raising wages for

The Pros And Cons Of Stay-At-Home Mom
Stay–at–home mothers are discriminated against in many ways. Stay–at–home mothers might be
considered "lazy" for choosing to stay at home and take care of their child instead of going back to
work immediately. Even if a mother is planning on going back to work after a while, she still isn't
treated the same as women without children. In "Confessions of a Stay–at–Home Mom," Ashley
Nelson argues that taking time off of work after a woman has a child can be bad, women with
children may earn less pay, and mothers are less likely to be promoted. I agree with Nelson that
taking time off work can be bad, mothers may earn less pay, and mothers are less likely to be
promoted because taking off of work can cause women to get out of the routine of working full time
and we may not be able to do our best work as soon as we return.
Ashley Nelson's article, "Confessions of a Stay–at–Home Mom," is about mothers and what they
should do about work when they have a child. Nelson argues that taking time off of work after a
woman has a child can cause her to not be offered the same jobs or benefits as a non–mother or
male. "Labor statistics show that while full–time working women without children earn 7 percent
less than their male counterparts, women with children earn 23 percent less" (Nelson 413). She also
states that mothers are less likely to be promoted than women without children. "The sense is that
employers, consciously or not, demote mothers, assuming they cannot live up to the hours and
demands of the work–place" (Nelson 414). Nelson also argues that women should keep some kind
of a job after having children because they will be much more likely to get a new job or get their old
job back with more benefits, better hours, and better pay.
Nelson argues that taking a lot of time off of work after having a child can be bad. Nelson states that
"even minor career breaks have dire economic consequences" (413). This means that by leaving a
career, even for just a couple of years, can have bad consequences. I believe that Nelson is correct
because when women leave their job, they might have a hard time getting it back. Even though a
mother is leaving her job to take care of her child, she is still quitting her job. When someone

An Ontological Positivist Assumption Discovering Consumers...
Methodology
Research Design
This research will be based on an ontological positivist assumption discovering consumers'
understanding of an effective SMM. This research has adopted descriptive, analytical, quantitative,
inductive and applied research method. The main purpose of the research is to answer the research
questions set in chapter 2. This research will focus on descriptive and analytical methods. The
objective of descriptive research is to identify the subject and its attributes. For analytical research,
the objective is to discover the reasons or causes behind the incident or phenomenon, and their
relationships with the subject (Collis and Hussey, 2003). The goals of this research are to identify
how consumers interpret an effective SMM; and discover the causes of it; and its relationship
between IT companies and customers. This research will apply the inductive approach. The research
will start with identifying the problems of IT companies on SMM, which is measuring the
effectiveness of it and the misfit with customer needs. It will then recognize the metrics of
measuring SMM. After formulating the metrics and measurements, the researcher will set up some
relevant research questions to discover. Finally, the answers to these questions will be used to
generate some theories and conclusion. Applied method is adopted as the outcome of this research.
Investigating the effectiveness of SMM on IT companies to customers is a solution to both
companies and customers on

Technology Is An Essential Part Of All Walks Of Everyday Life
Technology is an essential part of all walks of everyday life nearly everywhere on the planet. This is
especially true in the use in education, such as engineering to create devices and how to program
said devices. However, with technology comes with it the high cost of equipment, infrastructure,
sparse communication avenues and energy to power it all. Several years ago intrepid group of
Cambridge educators including Ebon Upton realized that we must prepare for the future demand of
computer science skills in both to design and to program, but also to have a fundamental
understanding of how these devices interact with the surrounding environment. In 2006 they

Persuasive Speech
"Laugh often, Dream big, and reach for the stars!" by Don Williams. Many people don't like to step
out of their comfort zone. Instead they like to stay in their shell and hid. In my life I like to
adventure and step out on something fun, new and interesting. One thing that I have tried lately is
repelling, it is where you use a rope to pull you down something. In my class we used a rope and our
bleachers, it was great but most people were nervous. Before we were able to do this we went
through the basics and we repelled on a smaller and easier wall. Basics are important so that we can
know what needs to be achieved in the grand scheme of things. I was able to learn that repelling
helps you understand the importance of safety and the thrill of falling and holding your life on one
rope. Importance of safety can help you in repelling with not falling to your death. In repelling you
have one rope that you are pulled with to lower you to the ground. The first things you need to do is
secure you rope to your harness. These two items are what help you to not completely fall to the
ground. One important tip is, what to do to pull yourself to the ground, you must slowly release
from the rope in your hand. After doing this inside we moved to a more higher and intricate place,
where you would really need to know what you were doing. As did the basic going back first i
moved to falling face first. This was a more complicated and scarier type of repelling. But for me to

Universal Basic Income Advantages And Disadvantages
Universal Basic Income (UBI) is a fixed amount at a level sufficient for subsistence, given by the
state to all its citizens regardless of income or work status. Recently, it has sparked a heated debate
among many cities around the world on whether to give their citizens a Universal Basic Income.
Though some people disagree on the idea that a country should give a UBI to its citizens, the policy
of giving a UBI to citizens has many advantages which have been shown by the benefits of a UBI
implement in Finland. A UBI can help to give the following benefits of a country: a continuous GDP
increase, a more harmonious community, and scientific advancement. First of all, adopting a UBI
can increase economic development by stimulating consumption. A UBI gives money to citizens
without concerns about their status. It'll lead to an increased income for the poor so that they will
buy more high–quality food, select more expensive clothes, and even have a new car per person.
Those things are impossible before the implementation of UBI. As for others, they'll have more
money to spend on their hobbies and vacations which will subsequently encourage them consume
more. For example, If I receive UBI now, I will save my extra money given by government for
several months and plan to use it go to Hawaii on a vacation. I'll buy round–trip airline tickets to
Hawaii, eat special food, book a hotel, and buy some souvenirs from Hawaii. The airline company
will make more profit for serving me,

Fastcat Benchmarking Job

  • 1. Fastcat Benchmarking Job Benchmarking jobs was a critical step in developing grades and ranges. Some of the job descriptions in the survey data did not clearly relate to the jobs in FastCat, which caused us to avoid those particular survey jobs. Due to these discrepancies among the job descriptions, we decided to evaluate the descriptions that most clearly matched the FastCat jobs. For example, in the Business and Marketing pay structure, the Administrative Aide requires very basic qualifications, such as a high school diploma and competencies in basic skills, such as word processing and simple administrative tasks. We felt that this most closely identified with the Office Support 1 position because its description involved simple word processing tasks as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We looked at organizations that were similar to ours. Factors that we included are the size of the organization, the type of work done in the company, their profitability, and their percentage of base pay to total compensation. We chose organizations that were either small or medium sized that ideally were software companies. Large companies were also selected, as practically we are still competing with large companies for similar positions, and the market continues to expand in such a way that many smaller companies are merging to large–size. We also looked at the profitability of the organization. FastCat's ROA value is 0.24. We chose to look at organizations that were either of the same level or higher, up to a value of around 5. Choosing all of these particular factors allowed us to benchmark against organizations that are likely in a similar financial situation as FastCat, making them appropriate organizations with which to ... This kind of programming uses events, actions such as a clicking on a button or moving the mouse pointer over an object as the activate to run the suitable code handler, although, as the old style of user interface design, every so often called flow driven, only in progress from one point at the start of the code. Objects delivers a method to connect code and data into a "set" in this method as to create handling and saving the code / data more automatically. Visual Basic forms are objects, set menus are objects, and the so are the inherent VB controls. History and Advantages of Visual Basic: Visual Basic was first presented in 1991 by Microsoft. In 1993, as VB version 3 completed itself accessible, Visual Basic been the 1st priority of all windows–based programming languages. Visual Basic always stay the superior language for the programmer because VB delivers more defined code for a computer programmer than any other non–visual programming language. • 18. More Like Sterile-ing!: Detective Starling in Silence of... Silence of the Lambs can be placed within many genres. One of which is the "Thriller" genre. A huge contribution to why Silence of the Lambs is a thriller film is the character of deranged genius Hannibal Lecter. Played by Anthony Hopkins whom won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance, Lecter holds the key to the case Detective Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster whom also won the Academy Award for Best Actress, is determined to solve. With such a situation, interrogation is essential as many other films within the thriller subgenre of Crime Thriller also show. By comparing Clarice Starling's behavior within the interrogation setting to other detectives and women of thriller films, it is revealed that although Lecter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two common tropes of the psychological thriller are mind games and obsession, both of which are at the forefront of Silence insofar as Detective Starling being held mentally captive to the manipulative genius of Hannibal Lecter. Lecter's exposing of Starling as vulnerable is crucial to the film in regards to how she overcomes it. Another thriller that falls into these two thriller subgenres and even replicates the Hannibal versus Starling situation almost identically is Christopher Nolan's 2008 release The Dark Knight. In The Dark Knight, Batman, like Starling, is held mentally captive by his maniacal arch–nemesis the Joker whom, like Lecter, is in physical captivity. Inconveniently, the Joker has important information regarding the physical captivity of two figures important to Batman as well as Bruce Wayne: Harvey Dent, a key political player that the Batman needs and Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne's ex–lover. The way the Joker and Hannibal Lecter tease the detectives with their leverage is kindred to say the least. Both find decadent satisfaction in toying with their respective interrogators. • 22. Socioeconomic Inequality Essay Universal basic income, (UBI), has become one our leading topics for a solution towards socioeconomic inequality. Billionaires such as Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, have advanced the idea of going through with UBI (Kaza, 2018). UBI tackles many diversity challenges our society seriously needs solutions too. However, due to the enormity of UBI, it's important to evaluate our decision to go forward; not only finically but ethically. For governments to implement a UBI, it would take a major overhaul of their welfare and tax systems. For example, the United States would need to spend over 3 trillion dollars a year just to provide a yearly distribution of $12,000 for each person over 18. This does not include illegal immigrants or the cost of running the program. I will evaluate the potential effects and ethics of UBI on minority groups in three areas: gender inequality, social conflict and the effects of automation on the work force. ... Manjarin and Szlinde (2016), uses Marxist philosophies to explain the current domination of owners vs works. They state the implementation of a basic income will increase the conflict between capitalist and the lower class. By giving basic income to everyone, it increases the economic power the lower class has. Thus, they can unite their resources and be a formidable entity. They types of conflicts can lead to rebellion and/or revolution. We need to evaluate whether the after effects of a change in power balance is worth it or keeping the status quo is ... • 26. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt And Social Security In the midst of the worst financial crisis in modern history, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in August of 1935 to combat high unemployment and poverty, especially among the elderly. In the process, he laid the foundation for a modern safety net. The act has been amended over the years and consists of several welfare and social insurance programs including the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), among other medical assistance programs. Ideological Divide Most proposals to reform Social Security can be categorized along party and ideological grounds. Right–leaning reforms place an emphasis on private accounts and increasing the retirement age. Such reforms are designed to reduce the future shortfall and avoid raising taxes (the S.S. cap), which they believe will hinder economic growth. Left–leaning reforms seek to reduce wealth inequality and increase benefits for current low–income retirees through cost–of–living–adjustments (COLA). Both sides of the aisle agree that reforms are needed to ensure that the S.S. trust fund does not fully deplete. How is S.S. funded? To fund these programs, individuals and employers are liable for FICO taxes. Both parties are taxed at a rate of 6.2% on income under $118,500 and an additional 1.45% tax on all income for Medicare. • 30. Poverty Misconceptions Poverty is when an individual does not have enough money to meet basic needs such as housing, clothing, and food; however, this is not all that poverty is. In addition to the things mentioned earlier, poverty is about being unable to take part in activities for leisure such as not being able to send their children on a school field trip or have a birthday party, as well as being unable to pay for medications. Everything that has been listed are all costs of being in poverty. These individuals have to focus more on the necessities of life rather than their wants in order to get by on a daily basis. There are many common misconceptions when it comes to individuals who are in poverty. Many believe that those in poverty are lazy and living off of welfare, all children have equal opportunities to succeed so there is no reason for them to end up poverty–stricken as adults, and an individual's life choices caused them to become impoverished. These misconceptions have a lasting effect on the individuals who believe these misconceptions. They are less willing to help make a change because they believe that those in poverty chose the life they are living. While that may be true for a portion of those impoverished, that is not the case for all of them. A big misconception about poverty– stricken people is that they are lazy and are living off welfare. • 39. Living A Health Conscious Lifestyle Like many children, I went through the ubiquitous "why" stage. I constantly posed this question, even to the smallest and most mundane events in life. Filled with genuine curiosity and love of learning, I desired to understand the ornate workings of the world. Unlike the majority of children, however, I did not lose this fervor and drive to find answers. This inquisitiveness laid the foundation for my interest in research work. Growing up, my family placed a tremendous emphasis on health, fitness, and nutrition. From an early age, I appreciated the value of living a health–conscious lifestyle. However, when my older sister, Melissa, began to struggle with an eating disorder, I saw the detrimental effects that occur when this healthy lifestyle is amplified to an all–consuming extreme. Witnessing the immense ramifications and toil that this disorder had on her instigated my interest in the psychology of eating disorders and led me to countless questions that began with "why?". Although this was in keeping with my inquisitive nature, this time my questions evoked not only a search for answers but a distinctive and enduring academic quest. By the time I was in 6th grade, I had confidently decided I would obtain my PhD in clinical psychology. In an academic light, I sought to cultivate a professional comprehension of eating disorders and dissect their intricate nature and the various methods of treatment. • 43. The Benefits Of Relative Poverty In Canada A nation–wide social issue in contemporary Canadian society is relative poverty. Universal basic income (UBI), or 'basic income', is a model which aims to eliminate it. In this response, I will argue that UBI can reduce relative poverty in Canada. Subsequently, that the reduction of relative poverty will also improve both physical and mental health as well as diminish income discrimination in Canada. Since income inequality not only creates poverty but also is a social determinant of health. To accomplish this, I briefly outline the current state of Canadian poverty, the tenets of UBI, and the benefits that can stem from its establishment. Concludingly, discussing a measuring mechanism to ensure that the relative poverty is being resolved. Canada is a 'high–income nation', possessing industrialized economies, technologically advanced industries, and high per capita income (Kendall et al. 2016: 24). Resulting in Canada much receiving international scrutiny as it has a vast number of individuals living in relative poverty (Kendall et al. 2016: 29). Particularly as many as five million, or one in seven people live in relative poverty in Canada (Kendall et al. 2016: 29). Constituting relative poverty is living below the standard of living relative to the average individual in Canada (Levine–Rasky 2017). In addition, income inequality acts as a social determinant of health (SDH), as it impacts the economic and social conditions of an individual or a community (Raphael 2016: ... • 47. Errors And Expectations Summary The next chapter of the book Errors & Expectations by Mina Shaughnessy discusses spelling. Shaughnessy asserts that there are many reasons why a basic writing student will misspell words. These reasons include being unfamiliar with the structure of words, mis–pronunciation, not being familiar with homophones, failing to remember or see words, and not having a firm grasp on spelling rules. Shaughnessy spends the majority of the chapter giving suggestions on how to help students improve their spelling. She lines out several key ways in which this can be done. First of all, a teacher must believe that her student can become a good speller. If she thinks that spelling cannot be taught and simply notes errors in the margin of her student's paper, her student will get the idea that he is a lost cause and will give up on trying to improve his spelling. However, if a teacher is optimistic and gives her student tools and strategies for becoming a better speller, the student will begin to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The teacher must first help him to discover his spelling problems by teaching him to analyze his errors, and then focus on specific rules or exercises that will help him to tackle the root of his errors. Over time, he will learn to recognize and correct his errors and will become a much better speller. Shaughnessy's viewpoints coincide with those of Constance Weaver in her book Grammar to Enrich and Enhance Writing. In Chapter 9 of her book, Weaver discusses how to teach English Language Learners to edit their errors, a very similar subject to Shaughnessy's chapter on spelling. Like Shaughnessy, Weaver takes the constructivist approach and believes you must first discover why the student makes specific errors. You can then assist them by providing active learning strategies needed to target their areas of struggle. Over time, they will then begin to recognize and correct their ... • 51. Pros And Cons Of Government Assistance In America For a very long time there's been the debate over government assistance in america, admittedly there are plenty of pros and cons on either side of the argument, in this case I believe that the pros outweigh the cons. America should introduce a universal basic income as a replacement for all other government assistance in an effort to reduce government bureaucracy, improve standard of living, reduce the wealth gap, contribute to better working conditions and create social capital. Providing a base income for all americans regardless of previous income would greatly affect the standard of living in america. Replacing all other government benefits with ten thousand dollars per year for all american citizens over the age of eighteen years old. Say a person makes forty thousand dollars per year, they now have an extra ten thousand dollars to add to that, enough to cover daycare or assist in daycare costs for a single parent, or to allow someone who works three jobs to now be able to to work two instead. It's no secret that ten thousand more dollars per year would be helpful to anyone, but for some it could be the difference between living on the street or not. Yes, ten thousand dollars is most likely not enough for someone to be able to afford their own apartment, house, ect. Even so, living with a roommate is preferable over living on the street. • 55. Race, Gender, And Social Class Race, gender, and social class has several implications in the United States and how it shapes policy and perceptions of those who live in poverty. Current welfare systems are not perfect, and capitalistic policies do not work as intended to solve income inequalities. Given this, we will discuss social inequalities and capitalism, the welfare system, and propose two policies that solves welfare, and social and income inequalities. The first key idea from the materials is that social inequities and capitalism are intertwined. In the TEDTalks, while the upper class, or plutocrats, are typically living large, the lower classes are struggling to live. Additionally, due to the unfair system, the lower– income people are more likely to drop out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The welfare reform law in 1996 mostly tried to solve marital evils rather than efficiently dealing with welfare. It encouraged marriage and attempted to lower single parenthood. However, when one looks at this issue, this is mostly a gender status issue rather than an income issue. Also, many policymakers impose conditions to families receiving governmental benefits. Although I acknowledge that these policies attempt to solve problems with poverty, I disagree with how the policymakers approach these issues. Instead of focusing on incomes of each family, they mainly focused solving social issues. Would you say that poverty is caused by single mothers? What if I told you that marriage rates have fallen since the 1960s? Our policies are indifferent to these questions. The policies mainly focused on the shortcomings of the poor rather than trying to save them from poverty. J.D. Vance mentioned that low–income children face childhood trauma that affects them, and the despair and low social capital these families are going through. Focusing on the crimes parents do mainly out of desperation rather than malicious intent to pass welfare bills would be even more traumatizing to kids. We probably are not doing much to help the impoverished if we are focused attacking the moral shortcomings of poor families rather than implementing policies to help families in general. It can last much longer than ten minutes, but a lifetime. The cycle does not just stop there, it is common for it to be generational. Does poverty have the ability to define a person? Poverty and personal identity can go hand in hand. In The Absolutely True Story of a Part– time Indian, Sherman Alexie describes the devastating effects poverty has on an individual's identity. Poverty has lasted in Arnold's family for generations, it has proven to create many obstacles time and time again for him. Being poor drastically affects Arnold's basic needs of survival, it infringes the joy he has in his life, and constantly reminds him what it is like to be a Native American on the Spokane Indian Reservation. This all, in return, impacts Arnold's sense of self. Poverty hurts Arnold's basic means of survival. He describes how his drawing talents won't get him what he truly needs, "my cartoons will never take the place of food or money. I wish I could draw a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or a fist full of twenty dollar bills, and perform some magic trick and make it real" (Alexie 7). The desire to have money appear from his drawings is understandable, who wouldn't want that? The alarming part of his statement is his want for just a basic peanut butter and jelly sandwich. • 72. The Benefits Of Relative Poverty A nation–wide issue in contemporary Canadian society is relative poverty. Universal basic income (UBI), or 'basic income', is a model which aims to eliminate it. In this response, I will argue that UBI can reduce relative poverty in Canada. Subsequently, the reduction of relative poverty will also improve physical and mental health and discrimination in Canada. Due to income being a social determinant of health. To accomplish this, I briefly outline the current state of Canadian poverty, the tenets of UBI, and the benefits that can stem from its establishment. Concludingly, discussing progress measuring mechanisms to ensure that the relative poverty is being resolved. Canada is labeled as a 'high–income nation', a country with industrialized economies, technologically advanced industries, and high per capita income (Kendall et al. 2016: 24). This has caused Canada to receive international scrutiny as it has a vast number of individuals living in relative poverty (Kendall et al. 2016: 29). Particularly as many as five million, or one in seven people live in relative poverty in Canada (Kendall et al. 2016: 29). In addition, income is a social determinant of health (SDH), as it impacts the economic and social conditions of an individual or a community (Raphael 2016: 3) Poverty has many effects and impacts people differently, one of these effects is physical health (Canada Without Poverty). • 80. Is The Best Approach Tackle Global Poverty? Essay What is the best approach to tackle global poverty? Discuss with reference to free trade, fair trade and foreign aid. Poverty, the state of being extremely poor, affects a large proportion of the global population who are unable to access adequate levels of food, shelter, healthcare and education. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that reducing poverty is considered to be a net positive without addressing the concept from a variety of theoretical lenses. The World Bank quantitatively defines those living in poverty as individuals with less than "$US1.90 PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) per person, per day", by these metrics global poverty has decreased significantly, from approximately 44 percent of the global population in 1981 to an estimated 9.6 percent in 2015 (WB PovcalNet, 2016). Although this is an impressive improvement there are still many people living in poverty around the world. This essay will examine some of the methods used to combat poverty, as well as how it has changed over time. These methods include both free trade, fair trade and their alleged opposition to each other as well as comparing domestic and foreign aid. In order to have a more nuanced understanding of global poverty today, one must appreciate the historical methods used to combat poverty, as well as possible changes within the situations of those living in poverty. Within recent decades, China has had the largest reduction of poverty, from 29% in 1990 to 9.1% in 2015 (Angang , Linlin & ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The curriculum should focus on grammar, punctuation, usage, mechanics, writing style, organization and clarity and non–traditional compositions. These courses should be hands on, letting students learn from experience; there is only so much you can learn by reviewing someone else's work. Yet, I have been in many writing courses where we hardly wrote. This caused the students' writing skills to become rusty; we as students lost interest and no longer participated because of it. Having a writing course turned into a writing seminar is not only false advertising, but it caters more to the teacher's comfort zone and need to be in control of what the students read and write. This leaves students trying to gratify their teachers to get a good grade, rather than improving their skills. In A guide to Composition Pedagogies by Gary Tate, Amy Rupiper and Kurt Schick, there is a section on the education behind the writing curriculum that states: The student writes the wrong thing, for the wrong reason, to the wrong person [...] he writes about a subject he is not thoroughly informed upon in order to exhibit his knowledge rather than explain something the reader does not understand, and he writes to a professor who already knows more than he does about the matter [...] (page 156). The Basics: The English School Of International Relations The English School of International Relations, often referred to as the 'international society' approach to International Relations or the Groatian School is a theory which is mainly characterized by its efforts to place itself outside of the polarization seen in the debates between liberals and realists as well as by its commitment to the study of what an important contributor to the English School of IR, Hedley Bull called 'the anarchical society'. Just as this term implies the English School of IR acknowledges that a structural characteristic of international relations is the anarchy, however, it also acknowledges that autonomous states create a society that adopts concepts of justice and order in its judgment and its rhetoric. Therefore, this approach focuses on the balance of power, international law and the spread of cosmopolitan principles. (pg.78) Sutch, P., Elias, J. (2007) International Relations: The Basics. • 92. Poverty In Rutger Bregman's 'Utopia For Realists' Poverty is one of the leading problems in America today, and most blame it on the poor themselves. People blame it on the poor's lack of knowledge and character; however, this is not the case. Rutger Bregman, a historian and author of Utopia for Realists, explains that "poverty isn't a lack of character; it's a lack of cash" (Bregman). Bregman provides a solid argument even though he never provides an emotional overview of the situation. Although Bregman's speech, "Poverty isn't a lack of character; it's a lack of cash," lacked more to the emotional appeal than most are used to when it comes to poverty, his problem–solution structure and focus on facts, statistics, and ethical incentives provided the strength that his argument needed. Bregman approached this idea of poverty with a problem–solution format. He first brought to his audience's attention the presence of false stereotypes in society. One of the largest came from Margaret Thatcher. She stated, "Poverty is a personality defect" (Bregman). Bregman then uses this as a foundation for which many of his facts, statistics, and solutions came from. Bregman then proves that poverty is not a personality defect, but simply a lack of money. From this proof, Bregman provides a solution, "basic income guarantee" (Bregman). He then proves that this solution is effective by referring to Dauphin, Canada, where "basic income guarantee" eradicated poverty (Bregman). The UBI could be a potentially good idea because it could help end poverty, better school completion, and people could have more money if they work too. Firstly, the UBI could help end poverty by providing money for homeless people. If homeless people get around $800 monthly, then they can eventually afford nice clothes and get a nice paying job. Food and clean water is a basic necessity of human life. Access to quality, adequate, affordable food and clean water should be a goal of every government. However, in many places that is not possible either due to drought or destitution. In some areas the government uses food to control the population. Many lives are lost due to starvation for no reason other than lack of government management. Affordable housing should be available to everyone. Background CE.1.2.1. Nature of overall engineering project Manufacturing, including electronics manufacturing, is a major industry in Indonesia. To be competitive internationally, manufacturers attempt to reduce their manufacturing cost but at the same time increase product output and quality. Most manufacturing units use human labour to undertake quality checking, in this case to ensure the path on the printed circuit board (PCB) was not missing and that there are no scratches. These defects would cause the PCB to be defective, in turn making the end electronic products defective. Subsequent market recalls would cost the manufacturer a large sum of money – and reputation. I decided to create a system for reducing human error in electronics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Article By Arnett ( 2008 ) A Response to Arnett 2008 In an article by Arnett (2008), he makes the assertion that American research psychologists are relying too heavily on research results that do not generalize to the majority of the population of the world. Primarily, his two points include; the predominance of American authors and editors found in American Psychological Association (APA) journals and how American research results do not consider cultural variation (Arnett, 2008). Arnett (2008) assumes that American psychologists rely heavily on research findings gleaned from sampled populations, as applicable to behavior of all human beings. Evidence used to support the claim of the author included an analysis of six APA journals encompassing a twenty–year time frame from 1988 to 2007 (Arnett, 2008). Findings from the analysis showed American authors made up a vast majority of published studies and particularly, undergraduate study samples were used most often (Arnett, 2008). Additionally, Arnett (2008) found the editors of the APA journals were nearly all associated with American research universities. Overall, Arnett (2008) makes a convincing case of American psychologists neglecting most of the world's population with their research findings. However, his view of this topic is skewed and is evident with his exclusion of relevant information. While there is a genuine lack of cultural diversity in research findings in the United States, this is not due to a desire to exclude any group or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critical Analysis : Why Education Is Not An Economic Panacea Critical Analysis: "Why Education Is Not an Economic Panacea" "The advice we would offer every halfway intelligent young person with a pulse–go to college–is not, I argue, counsel we can offer a whole generation of young people" (Marsh p.6). John Marsh explores in his article "Why Education Is Not an Economic Panacea" the correlation between income inequality and lack of higher education. In doing so he finds that education alone may not be a cure all for the problems faced by many low income families. Marsh shares what he had learned through his experience teaching impoverished students and how it is wrong to assume that education will positively effect someones financial outcomes. Marsh intends to open peoples minds to addressing problems such as poverty that may be the reason for a lack of education rather than assuming that deficiencies in education are to blame for the problem. I believe that what Marsh is advocating is a "living wage" for people in jobs that do not require a degree and he thinks that doing so will solve the problems of economic inequality and poverty (Marsh p.6). Is it wrong to think that increasing wages for unskilled labor or non professional jobs will solve these problems? In recent years it seems it seems there has been a lot of public discussion regarding living wages. This seems like an interesting idea but maybe it's not very well thought out, how is it accomplished? Who determines what the wages will be? And why is raising wages for ... Stay–at–home mothers might be considered "lazy" for choosing to stay at home and take care of their child instead of going back to work immediately. Even if a mother is planning on going back to work after a while, she still isn't treated the same as women without children. In "Confessions of a Stay–at–Home Mom," Ashley Nelson argues that taking time off of work after a woman has a child can be bad, women with children may earn less pay, and mothers are less likely to be promoted. I agree with Nelson that taking time off work can be bad, mothers may earn less pay, and mothers are less likely to be promoted because taking off of work can cause women to get out of the routine of working full time and we may not be able to do our best work as soon as we return. Ashley Nelson's article, "Confessions of a Stay–at–Home Mom," is about mothers and what they should do about work when they have a child. Nelson argues that taking time off of work after a woman has a child can cause her to not be offered the same jobs or benefits as a non–mother or male. "Labor statistics show that while full–time working women without children earn 7 percent less than their male counterparts, women with children earn 23 percent less" (Nelson 413). She also states that mothers are less likely to be promoted than women without children. "The sense is that employers, consciously or not, demote mothers, assuming they cannot live up to the hours and demands of the work–place" (Nelson 414). Nelson also argues that women should keep some kind of a job after having children because they will be much more likely to get a new job or get their old job back with more benefits, better hours, and better pay. Nelson argues that taking a lot of time off of work after having a child can be bad. Nelson states that "even minor career breaks have dire economic consequences" (413). This means that by leaving a career, even for just a couple of years, can have bad consequences. I believe that Nelson is correct because when women leave their job, they might have a hard time getting it back. Even though a mother is leaving her job to take care of her child, she is still quitting her job. When someone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 145. An Ontological Positivist Assumption Discovering Consumers... Methodology Research Design This research will be based on an ontological positivist assumption discovering consumers' understanding of an effective SMM. This research has adopted descriptive, analytical, quantitative, inductive and applied research method. The main purpose of the research is to answer the research questions set in chapter 2. This research will focus on descriptive and analytical methods. The objective of descriptive research is to identify the subject and its attributes. For analytical research, the objective is to discover the reasons or causes behind the incident or phenomenon, and their relationships with the subject (Collis and Hussey, 2003). The goals of this research are to identify how consumers interpret an effective SMM; and discover the causes of it; and its relationship between IT companies and customers. This research will apply the inductive approach. The research will start with identifying the problems of IT companies on SMM, which is measuring the effectiveness of it and the misfit with customer needs. It will then recognize the metrics of measuring SMM. After formulating the metrics and measurements, the researcher will set up some relevant research questions to discover. Finally, the answers to these questions will be used to generate some theories and conclusion. Applied method is adopted as the outcome of this research. Investigating the effectiveness of SMM on IT companies to customers is a solution to both companies and customers on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is especially true in the use in education, such as engineering to create devices and how to program said devices. However, with technology comes with it the high cost of equipment, infrastructure, sparse communication avenues and energy to power it all. Several years ago intrepid group of Cambridge educators including Ebon Upton realized that we must prepare for the future demand of computer science skills in both to design and to program, but also to have a fundamental understanding of how these devices interact with the surrounding environment. In 2006 they developed a low cost, credit card sized computer called the Raspberry Pi. An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, the "About Us" section on the Raspberry Pi Foundation website states the mission succinctly as: "The Raspberry Pi Foundation works to put the power of digital making into the hands of people all over the world, so they are capable of understanding and shaping our increasingly digital world, able to solve the problems that matter to them, and equipped for the jobs of the future". "We provide low–cost, high–performance computers that people use to learn, solve problems and have fun. We provide outreach and education to help more people access computing and digital making. We develop free resources to help people learn about computing and how to make things with computers, and train educators who can guide other people to learn". So, what is exactly is the Raspberry Pi? In short, it is a very low cost, credit card sized computer board developed in the United Kingdom. Its main purpose is to encourage discovery in learning and experimenting with code. The basic operating system is a Linux based system called Raspbian using an HMDI port as a TV interface and uses a common keyboard and mouse. Currently in the sixth configuration, Raspberry Pi 3, all of the subsequent iterations all basically consisted of input/output, CPU/GPU, 2 x ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead they like to stay in their shell and hid. In my life I like to adventure and step out on something fun, new and interesting. One thing that I have tried lately is repelling, it is where you use a rope to pull you down something. In my class we used a rope and our bleachers, it was great but most people were nervous. Before we were able to do this we went through the basics and we repelled on a smaller and easier wall. Basics are important so that we can know what needs to be achieved in the grand scheme of things. I was able to learn that repelling helps you understand the importance of safety and the thrill of falling and holding your life on one rope. Importance of safety can help you in repelling with not falling to your death. In repelling you have one rope that you are pulled with to lower you to the ground. The first things you need to do is secure you rope to your harness. These two items are what help you to not completely fall to the ground. One important tip is, what to do to pull yourself to the ground, you must slowly release from the rope in your hand. After doing this inside we moved to a more higher and intricate place, where you would really need to know what you were doing. As did the basic going back first i moved to falling face first. This was a more complicated and scarier type of repelling. But for me to be able to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Universal Basic Income Advantages And Disadvantages Universal Basic Income (UBI) is a fixed amount at a level sufficient for subsistence, given by the state to all its citizens regardless of income or work status. Recently, it has sparked a heated debate among many cities around the world on whether to give their citizens a Universal Basic Income. Though some people disagree on the idea that a country should give a UBI to its citizens, the policy of giving a UBI to citizens has many advantages which have been shown by the benefits of a UBI implement in Finland. A UBI can help to give the following benefits of a country: a continuous GDP increase, a more harmonious community, and scientific advancement. First of all, adopting a UBI can increase economic development by stimulating consumption. A UBI gives money to citizens without concerns about their status. It'll lead to an increased income for the poor so that they will buy more high–quality food, select more expensive clothes, and even have a new car per person. Those things are impossible before the implementation of UBI. As for others, they'll have more money to spend on their hobbies and vacations which will subsequently encourage them consume more. For example, If I receive UBI now, I will save my extra money given by government for several months and plan to use it go to Hawaii on a vacation. I'll buy round–trip airline tickets to Hawaii, eat special food, book a hotel, and buy some souvenirs from Hawaii. The airline company will make more profit for serving me, ...
