Saving A Life With AEDS
It has been statistically proven that Sudden Cardiac Arrests have begun to claim a huge chunk of people’s
lives these days. This fact can be attributed to numerous reasons, with the most prominent ones being
unhealthy fast food and stress. Sudden Cardiac Arrests are unprecedented events that can happen

Sudden Cardiac Arrests occurs when the normal beating rhythm of the heart is thrown out of sync, and
causes it to stop. It makes the heart slip into something analogous to “vibration mode”. This is called
fibrillation. To shock the heart back into its normal beating rhythm, (AEDS)/defibrillators are used. These
devices induce an electric shock to put the heart back into a normal rythm.
To use these devices, defibrillator training may be required. Although these devices are fully automatic
with the option for semi-automatic AEDs, it is still important to know the basic information and
precautions that one needs to follow. For example, this treatment is not to be given to the victim who still
has a pulse. Such information can only be learned in a CPR AED certification course. In addition to the basic
instructions of using the machine, the best procedures for using an AED and notifying the correct
emergency personnel are taught. It also ensures that the victim is receiving effective treatment in the most
critical time of need i.e. CPR and treatment with an AED/defibrillator.
A defibrillator consists of two electrodes, which may be two piece electrodes or a single unit. Zoll
AED/AEDs usually have a single unit type of electrodes, which assist in proper placement while
administering treatment. It is “z” shaped, with right-angled bends. The central vertical portion is supposed
to be kept in the centre of the patient’s chest. This placement automatically aligns the two electrodes in
position. Thus, in a way, it is more convenient to use. It is especially helpful for those with little training as
it tells you were to push during CPR compressions.
Two-piece electrodes are separate electrodes that are not connected by any material. It can be a bit
difficult nailing down the right position with these electrodes unless one has practiced enough to
understand where to place them. Almost all AED electrodes have pictures to detail where the aed
electrodes should be placed. AED defibrillators with two-piece electrodes may not be the ones for those
who don’t understand the basics or cannot concentrate in a stressful emergency.
With an increasing number of people enrolling in CPR/AED/BLS training, and with the availability of these
devices in most public places, it has become possible to save more lives than it was a few years ago.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest has certainly become a problem because of the lifestyle shift that the globe
witnessed, however, a solution has now been found that can help reduce the fatality rate of this disease.
It is important to note that this device is not something which guarantees a healthy heart. It cannot
become substitute to a healthy lifestyle. No matter how many innovations are done, there is nothing that
can overtake good health and its benefits. It is good to train yourself to save lives with CPR/AED training,
but better yet to mind your health.
