Racism seems to be one of the biggest problems in our country, the United States. The
videos that were made by Jane Elliot takes a closer look at these problems. Her effort and tactic
used to confront these issues seem very powerful. I feel like they hit hard for me and how it
made me feel about how other people who are not white, are treated.
The way Jane Elliot handled this situation was great, it demonstrated the exact emotions
of the people being targeted would experience. She especially tried to do this in a class room
setting, which implies learning. I think she went at this correctly in her examples or scenarios
she would start the seminar with. For example, when she separated the blue eyed people from
the rest of the class who did not have these features. She also had them set in a designated area
in the room, so that they were front and center, they could also been seen by anyone in the room
around them. They definitely had no idea what they were walking into which could be the same
way a foreign person or someone outside of the country who is coming over here. Then she
begins with asking simple questions but it gets to where she starts to get harsher in her tone. At
first the person has not realized yet that she is actually not being nice or joking. The student
begins to notice that she is being harsh and not actually joking. Eventually the student breaks
down and begins to experience sad emotions, angry or irritation. Some of the students even
began to cry, one student got so upset that she left the class and did not come back to finish the
seminar. I think that illustrates perfectly how a foreign person who is not white would feel. I’m
sure they feel like crying every day when people are mean to them and the emotions they feel. I
think that all aspects of racism in this country is awful. I cannot believe how some people will

treat another human being so badly for just simply being a different color. I try as hard as
possible to treat everyone equally. I think all the work Jane Elliot did was great, even from just
watching that short film. I think it takes someone to speak up to make a change and I think this
lady has dedicated her life to that, I think it’s great. She is very determined and it’s great seeing
someone so passionate about equality.
In conclusion, I think this film illustrated racism in this country. I think Jane Elliot did a
great job in this film and she presented everything. I think racism is wrong and in no way
morally right. I think after seeing this film a lot of other people may feel the same.
