2. Existing Product
This current existing product example of how I would like my game
to look is infact Super Mario Bros. a very popular Nintendo game
that I'm sure everyone has played at some point. Their has in fact
been many different productions of super Mario bros in the past
which is good as it keeps the audience interested in the game
almost as if they are updates. The setting/scenery of the game has
always been seen to be set as the same and that is more of the
country side setting, which is infact the most popular setting for
Mario. But as it is a side scrolling game the scenery/background
can change along the way, however despite this it always comes
back around to the starting background.
The characters of the game are seen to be cute, even the enemies
when comparing it to another game such as fallout, this would be
as Mario is a game with an audience based at a younger age,
hence they would want the playable characters and enemies to
look cute(appealing). With the bottom image Mario has taken
some form of power-up to make him bigger and he still looks cute
as he goes along destroying objects.
Everything about the game is brightly coloured in these images,
even the enemies you can see in the top image are brightly
coloured, which is quite unique as you wouldn't’t expect an enemy
to be brightly coloured, they would be expected to be dark
coloured.
3. Existing Product
Candy crush is a popular mobile phone game(app) of which you
can easily download off the app store, without a
problem/struggle. Candy crush is seen to be a very addictive and
time consuming game that makes you feel like once you've won
you want to go back and win again, or if you've lost you want to
go back and keep trying until you win. This is seen to be a bit of a
bad habit as it can take up a lot of your time, time of which you
should be spending more wisely.
From looking at the top image you would get the opinion that the
game looks like it is based more towards a younger audience,
hence the idea of the bright and bold coloured candy. But that is
where you are wrong its main audience range is actually adults
that play it the most, as it is seen to be such an addicting game.
This isn't just from the style of the game, it is also because of the
patterns and the bright colours in the game which make it look so
appealing and therapeutic. The layout of the game can also be
seen to be quite a relaxing as the whole of the game including the
background aren't moving its just the idea of the candy moving,
which in some peoples eyes can be seen as a more easier game to
play and it is only set as one view which is good as you don’t really
need the background moving as well as the game area, as I feel it
would confuse the player. The text in the game gives a more
comical appeal as if it is from a kids game, the text always appear
dead in dead center of the game, so it is at an eye level camera
shot.

Crossy road can also be seen to be another good
example of a mobile phone app related game. This
game is more set around a 2D dimension and
building, this means that with this game you can
only move up, down and left and right. Despite the
restrictions of the movements with this game, you
can still see that it has a good form of detail and
looks like something anyone would want to play
upon first appearance. I like the setting and the
variety of colours of which they have chose to use
for the vehicles, which is good as all the colours
aren’t the same/also they aren’t repeated all the
time, which stops the game from appearing to be
boring. Both of the pictures of the game I have
collected are both at an Arial shot(looking down on
the game) this is because the game on a whole is
played at an Arial shot, which is a good thing as you
are able to see things better and as a result are able
to play the game with more ease as you are able to
see were you are going especially as the game is
operated by clicking in front/side of the animal you
are playing as. Despite the game being in a 2D
form, it is still incredibly detailed, this can be seen in
the bottom image from looking at the water
moving.
5. Existing Product
This here is a good example of a mobile phone racing game,
infact it is one of the best examples I could have chosen since it
is such a highly rated game. The graphics of this game are
actually very well detailed for a game that is in a 2D
dimension, hence why it has achieved such a high rating and a
lot of people play it. From looking at the image at the top you
can see that the game is set at night and that is infact true the
majority of the career races are in fact set at night, which for
some people may make them be put off from wanting to play
the game as maybe they prefer the idea of being able to race
in day time and that is one thing of which CSR racing does not
do/provide.
However the bottom image shows a different interpretation of
the game CSR racing, as it is showing some of the online
gameplay which is infact played in daytime. This part of the
game is the part that should interact people into wanting to
play it especially by the way how you are able to play against
other players from around the world. The camera angle of CSR
racing looks to be as if it is some form of crabbing angle as the
view you have is from a side so your view is the camera angle
that is almost like crabbing from a side angel. This is the kind
of camera angel of which I would like to use if I made a racing
game and make sure that the camera is angled up slightly
higher so that you can see both cars (you and opponent)
6. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have? There is one obvious aspect of which they all have in
common is the idea that they are both set/played in a 2D dimension and in all 3
of the games you can either go up and down or left and right.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work? I will obviously be including in the idea of
the 2D dimension and also will include the colour variety of which the games
include as it will help it to appeal more towards my target audience.
8. Interview 1
• Would you prefer to play single player with computer opponents or multiplayer
against actual people, and why? Multiplayer against real opponents as it gives a
good test of my skill at the game and after winning against an opponent a great
sense of achievement.
• Would you benefit from a game that had some form of power-ups to collect along
the way, and why? No not really because it would make a game too easy in my
opinion and take away from the game.
• Would you expect a game to have a detailed scenery/background or basic, and
why? Depending on the style of the game then yes I would but if it was designed
to be a pixelated game then less detail would end up being better.
9. Interview 1
• Observation: From my interview I can make the observation that they
prefer the idea of a multiplayer game and they would benefit from a game being
more detailed, depending on what kind of game it is, if it was an pixel based
game then it shouldn't’t be as detailed.
• What this says about my audience:This says that my
audience prefer the idea of a multiplayer game and wouldn't’t expect an pixel
game to be that detailed.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience:My product will appeal to this audience as I am planning on
making a game of which you are able to play multiplayer, however I am planning
on making my game slightly more detailed then what they would like so it may
be the case that it could slightly put them off my game.
10. Interview 2
• Would you prefer to play single player with computer opponents or multiplayer against
actual people, and why?
I would play multiplayer against actual people because I think it would be more fun to play
with friends and it would make the game more competitive which gives you a drive to play
better and beat your friends and when you win you feel good about it but if you lose you
want to play the game more so you can get better at it
• Would you benefit from a game that had some form of power-ups to collect along the
way, and why?
I would benefit from a game which had power ups because it make it easier.
• Would you expect a game to have a detailed scenery/background or basic, and why?
I would expect a detailed background because it shows that the designers has put a lot a
work into the game and makes the game worth the purchase.
11. Interview 2
• Observation: From this I can make the initial observation that they
prefer the idea of multiplayer along with the idea of power-ups along the way to
help them and also they would prefer the idea of a game that is detailed
especially if a pixel based game.
• What this says about my audience: From looking at
this, it says about my audience that they prefer the idea of a game that is played
as multiplayer also along the idea of having power-ups to collect along the way
and also for the game to be detailed as it show how the game is worth the
purchase.
• How will your product appeal to this
audience: My product will appeal to my audience because I am planning
on making my game to be multiplayer in some form, also I may include the idea
of power-ups along the way and obviously I will be making my game as detailed
as I can.
