The student went through a lengthy process to create a music magazine, including research, planning, drafting, designing, and development. They learned about using different camera techniques like aperture and flash to manipulate lighting and focus. Photoshop was used to edit images and create fonts. Various online tools were used to showcase the research, planning, drafts, finished products, and evaluation, including Prezi, Slideshare, YouTube, and Wikispaces.
1. 6. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THE PRODUCT?
2. The Process of development
• I went through a somewhat long process to create my magazine:
• Research and Analysis – Looking at example magazines and and analyzing them, to see what
is conventional and what is unconventional. Understanding my target audience through
questionnaires, interviews and focus groups.
• Planning – Deciding the type of music magazine I would create, discovering what my target
audience likes and dislike, Types of models to use, understanding traditional icons from when
rock began to modern rock today.
• Drafting – Mapping out the layout of my magazine’s front cover, contents and DPS. Testing out
designs and techniques to see what is the best for my magazine.
• Designing – After drafting finalize the designing the actual magazine using the layout and
colour schemes that I planned.
• Development – putting the pieces together to finally create the actual magazine.
• Evaluation – Evaluating my magazine seeing that it hits all the parts of the specification.
3. Camera Techniques – what I've leant
• Like the drafting stage of the creation process, I experimented a lot with different cameras
and using them to gain different effects and messing with the aperture, flash, white balance
etc. to get different lighting effects. I also researched camera techniques as well as
experimenting.
• I've learnt how to bring the object that I wanted into focus and to blur the background using
the aperture I've also learnt how to focus on very small objects using the Macro settings.
• I've also learnt about how lighting has a big part to play in photography. Using Natural Light is
sometime the best thing to do whereas in other cases using the flash can be very helpful. I
used natural lighting in most of my photos however doing so became very effortful as 3 main
factors effected the quality of the images; time of day, camera direction and weather 2 of
which I could not control.
• I've also learnt how camera angles play a big part in the quality of a image, such as a low
angle shot can give the impression the the object or person has power as they are looking
down on you.
4. Post production programs I've used
• I used Adobe Photoshop CS6 to create my magazine.
• Using Photoshop really helped in the process of developing my magazine’s front cover,
contents page and DPS. It helped me manipulate images to make them look better and
more realistic.
It helped me especially in removing backgrounds
from images but really helped me when creating my
masthead as I decided to create my own font for
my masthead using multiple tools in Photoshop
5. Showcasing my Work
• I've used many web application s and online forms to showcase my research, planning,
drafting, final products and evaluation.
• I’ve used Prezi which allows you to create a different style PowerPoint. I used it in my
evaluation to showcase my final thoughts and what I’ve learnt.
• I also used Slideshare, like this PowerPoint which allows you to put a .ppt file into a
online Slideshare. I used it for research and planning and also evaluation.
• I've used YouTube in my Research and planning and also in my evaluation it helped to
showcase videos rather than PowerPoint's which became fairly repetitive and therefore
boring. It helped me showcase my Focus Group video.
• I've also used Voicethread, Powtoon. I used Wikispaces to showcase everything, to
upload everything I've done so it acted as book, to add all my work I've done.
