Sister Debbie Breese Renews Her Vows
Earlier this month, Sister Debbie Breese celebrated with the Sisters of the
Divine Savior as she renewed her vows. This will be the last year Sister
Debbie has to renew her vows until she takes her final vows in August
2017, giving her life as a fully professed nun.
For almost 10 years, Sister Debbie has been on this journey of becoming a
nun, and has had the company of Sister Janice Hartman alongside her as
they renew their vows together. The formation process has been
rewarding for Sister Debbie, as she shares she was able to do more
traveling in her lifetime than she ever had before – opening her life up to
new people and new places that she has enjoyed so much.
At the beginning, Sister Debbie was an Affiliate of the Catholic community for 6 months until she gained her “candidacy”
after another 6 months. After this process she then lived in the community and became a Postulate. During this first
year, known as the Canonical year, she was a Novice. Sister Debbie earned her “Sister” title during this time and was also
a Novice during her second year, known as the Apostolic year. During this time she was able to explore many places in
Arizona and Wisconsin such as Phoenix, Tucson, Mount Calvary, New Holstein, and Portage (where she ultimately
decided to reside). Since August 15, 2011 Sister Debbie took her first vows and has been confessing her temporary vows
since. The last step will be the profession of her perpetual vows, her final vows, next year.
Sister Debbie shares how the renewal process works:
“An evaluation is written by the Sisters that you live within the community. You may ask two other people to write an
evaluation for you. You are evaluated by your director of temporarily vowed directress. You are then asked to write a
reflection on your year with questions that are given to you by your directress.
You then write a letter to our Provincial team asking to renew your vows. After review of all your paperwork, the
Provincial team makes a decision if you may renew or not. The Provincial leader will call and let you know if you can
proceed.”
We wish Sister Debbie all the best in her renewal year and are blessed to have her here at Divine Savior Healthcare.

  • 3. Inside HR Sister Debbie Breese Renews Her Vows Earlier this month, Sister Debbie Breese celebrated with the Sisters of the Divine Savior as she renewed her vows. This will be the last year Sister Debbie has to renew her vows until she takes her final vows in August 2017, giving her life as a fully professed nun. For almost 10 years, Sister Debbie has been on this journey of becoming a nun, and has had the company of Sister Janice Hartman alongside her as they renew their vows together. The formation process has been rewarding for Sister Debbie, as she shares she was able to do more traveling in her lifetime than she ever had before – opening her life up to new people and new places that she has enjoyed so much. At the beginning, Sister Debbie was an Affiliate of the Catholic community for 6 months until she gained her “candidacy” after another 6 months. After this process she then lived in the community and became a Postulate. During this first year, known as the Canonical year, she was a Novice. Sister Debbie earned her “Sister” title during this time and was also a Novice during her second year, known as the Apostolic year. During this time she was able to explore many places in Arizona and Wisconsin such as Phoenix, Tucson, Mount Calvary, New Holstein, and Portage (where she ultimately decided to reside). Since August 15, 2011 Sister Debbie took her first vows and has been confessing her temporary vows since. The last step will be the profession of her perpetual vows, her final vows, next year. Sister Debbie shares how the renewal process works: “An evaluation is written by the Sisters that you live within the community. You may ask two other people to write an evaluation for you. You are evaluated by your director of temporarily vowed directress. You are then asked to write a reflection on your year with questions that are given to you by your directress. You then write a letter to our Provincial team asking to renew your vows. After review of all your paperwork, the Provincial team makes a decision if you may renew or not. The Provincial leader will call and let you know if you can proceed.” We wish Sister Debbie all the best in her renewal year and are blessed to have her here at Divine Savior Healthcare.
