The document discusses the situation in Syria and the potential dangers it poses. It notes that if the Syrian government defeats the rebels, it could threaten the United States' ally Israel. It also discusses the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's willingness to use violence against opponents and destroy the country rather than lose power. Additionally, it mentions rumors of chemical weapons use and how their potential verification might push the United States into direct involvement due to the threat they and al-Assad's radicalism pose.
2. SITUATION IN ISRAEL
The United States is afraid that if the Syrian government
successfully beats the rebels, Israel might fall. Iran,
Lebanon (Hezzbollahs), and other Islamic countries are
supporting Bashar al-Assad. Israel and the United States
have taken the side of the rebels and the United States is
afraid that this might lead to a larger situation. The Islamic
countries have been transporting missiles that might pose a
new threat on Israel. If president al-Assad were to come out
victorious, one of America’s strongest allies could fall into a
large war (Lister).
3. BASHAR AL-ASSAD
The Syrian president is not new to using violent ways. Since
he came into power, al-Assad has used violent enforcement
on those who oppose him. Al-Assad openly admitted that he
wanted Saddam Hussein and Iraq to defeat the United
States, but now the US has its focus on Syria (Bashar al-
Assad). Many people familiar with the situation believe that
al-Assad refuses to lose; if he goes down, the entire country
is going with him. The president would rather have a divided
country than peacefully give up his power to the rebels. The
drastic things al-Assad is willing to do means that some
radical decisions might be made that could lead to great
conflicts for the Untied States (Lister).
4. CHEMICAL WEAPONS
There are rumors that the Syrian regime and the
Syrian rebels have started using chemical
weapons, but none of these rumors have been
verified. The presence of chemical weapons
changes the United States’ prospective on the
entire situation. The verification of chemical
weapons might be the one thing that’s pushes the
US into direct involvement. The mix of a radical
leader who is willing to destroy the entire country
and chemical weapons is a bad situation for the
United States to deal with.
5. DIFFERENT BELIEFS
Radicals on both sides of the civil war have come forward in
an attempt for their side to win. The rebellion started with a
desire for change, but it has now turned into a battle for
blood. Both sides are unwilling to give up an inch and are
willing to do anything to come out victorious. Countries
supporting both sides have prior tensions. The war in Syria
might cause a “war-within-a-war” (Lister). Chaos would soon
follow and the Middle East would be out of control. The
involvement of other Middle Eastern countries foreshadows
a future uncontrollable situation.
