Initial Assesment:
The faculty members were happy that the current curriculum adjustment made before where at
least 80% at par with the alumni recommendations.  The remaining 20% can be easilly adapted by the
faculty members in the curriculum. Each faculty member find the alumni suggestions as challenging.
Everyone was very thankful for the help done by the alumni.
Faculty Members in action:
Mr. Barcenas introduced to the faculty
members the tool to be used to carry the
process of curriculum development.  He
demonstrated the use of concept mapping
using the freemind software.  Using this tool,
the Content, Sequencing of Topics, Objectives,
Resouce Materials and References can be
plotted in a visual form faster than the Linear
Form or Tabular representation.  The faculty
members was comfortable in using the tool and
helped one another regarding topic areas not in
their concern.
Resolutions on the Alumni inputs:
1. Enhancement of Accounting / Finit / MIS and Other Business Related
1.1 SAP – Discussion of Terms and Concepts
1.2 ERP – How to Operate / Possibiility of using WebERP to deliver experience of ERP
Mr. Barcenas thanked Mr. Fonacier for handling the
subjects ACCTG and FINIT.  He acknowledged the
subjects to deliver the alumni expectations.  There where
no major problems encountered by the alumni specially
those in Business Process Outsourcing.  Enhancing the
skills of students in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planner)
software was the only thing suggested in the discussions.
With this in mind, Mr. Barcenas presented to the
faculty members an Open Source application
called WebERP.  This will be the Software tool which can
be added as a learning material to ACCTG and FINIT.
Since WebERP can be compared to SAP, students will have

an idea how to run ERP systems.  We also have graduates who are going to Accenture,  and having a
knowledge in running an ERP will give the graduates an edge specially in programming ERPs.  Mr.
Fonacier accepted the idea of incorporating the WebERP into the subject.  Web ERP will be installed
into the computers so that students will be able to use it.
 2. Software Engineering / Project Management
2.1 Real Like simulation / Actual Stakeholder particpation
     2.2 Focus on Requirements Identification
2.3 Project Turnover
Most of the concern in this area was the
requirements identification of software
application.  Mr. Barcenas explained to the body
tthe reason why alumni have deficiencies in this
area.  Mr. Barcenas explained the difference
between Software Engineering with the other
Engineering disciplines.
As of the latest curriculum on Software
Engineering,  the students were given a hands on
activity on the requirements identification.  The
stakeholders was found inside the school but in
the next implementation of the subject, students will be asked to communicate with stakeholders
outside the school setting.  This will give a chance to students to enhance their interpersonal skills and
experience the real world.
3. Web Development
3,1 Discussions on Web3.0 / 4.0
3.2 Include CMS – Content
                  Management Systems i.e. Joomla,
                  Drupal,  Wordpress for discussion
3.3 Training of students in the use of
Frameworks / MVC – Model View
                  Controllers i.e. Code
                  Igniter / Symphony / Cold Fusion /
                  Django
3.4 Inclusion of  SEO (Search Engine
                  Optimization) and SEM (Search
                  Engine Marketing)

Mr. Teruel received the copy of suggested topics to be inserted in the class discussions.  Mr.
Teruel was currently teaching frameworks to the students.  Code igniter was the framework taught to
the students.  Mr. Teruel will be adding another framework to the current curriculum.  Mr. Teruel
showed to the body the new curriculum of PROG313 and Elective subject using the PHPcake
framework.
4. Free the Elective
Students are allowed to choose specialization, Networking, Programming, Database, System
Administration
Everyone agreed to free the electives and let the student choose their fields of specialization.
Mr. Barcenas was optomistic that this can be done because the IT Department has lots of students and
can manage to open many elective subjects without having problems on meeting the required quota per
classroom.  The ELECTIVE subjects will be free on the next school year 20112012.
5. Networking
5.1 Inclusion of CISCO in the discussion
5.2 Possibility of certification for students
5.3 Advancement in Routing technologies Layer 7,
                 EIGRP, OSPF, BGP
5.4 VOIP – Voice over IP using asterisk
Mr. Manalo explained to the body that
certification will require money.   Inclusion of VOIP will
be added in the current DTCOM313 subject , students can
get a discounted price for the training activities in CISCO.
6. Information Security
To be added in the Elective subjects.  Training of
teachers on this field will help in the development of the curriculum.
7. Systems Administration
7.1 Focus on scripting languages with special emphasis on writing scripts and execution via cron
jobs (i.e. managing 10,000 servers by one sysad)
7.2 Linux Command proffiency
7.3 Server Management, clustering, load balancing, firewalls

BSIT Consultative Curriculum Development Session Page 8 of 12
Hacienda Darasa, Tanauan Batangas
This section was discussed in detail by Mr. Barcenas.  Mr. Macaraig acknowledged the alumni
inputs and will be adding the linux scripting language as an important skill to be learned by the
students.
Mr. Barcenas put an emphasis in the Cloud Computing technology.  He discused to the faculty
members how this kind of technology can kill the IT industry.  In the United states, the Cloud
Computing technology decreases the demand for IT Professionals.  Should this technology come into
fruition 5 to 10 years from now, the IT graduates will have a problem in employment.
The demand of IT programmers will decline in the future.  There is a need for the BSIT
curriculum in DBTC to focus more on Systems administration, Network Security rather than
Programming.
8. JAVA  Addition of Mobile computing J2ME
This alumni input was very well accepted by the faculty members and would be adding this
topic in the ELECTIVE subjects.  The topic would cover the programming of Mobile devices such as
celphones.

9. Databases
9.1 Design of Databases done by students should be correct
    9.2 Oracle , PL/SQL
    9.3 Postgre SQL
    9.4 Clustering / Grid Clustering
    9.5 Data Warehousing
Mr. Teruel have recently added the Oracle topic as part of the advance database subject.  DB323
Advance Database subject  will cover the different databases such as ORACLE, POSTGRE.
Management of Large Databases, Clustering, High availability Database servers will be one of the
topics to be covered.
10. ABAP Cobol Programming Experience – Using OpenCOBOL
Mr. Sandil has a good background in programming COBOL.  This subject will be added to the
Elective offerings and will be using Open COBOL as the tool to teach COBOL.
11. Important Skills
11.1 STRONG Programming Skills
     11.1.1 Logic Formulation
 11.2 Algorithm
 11.3 Problem Solving Skills
 11.4 Interpersonal Skills of Students

11.4.4 Entrepreneurial Capability of Students  Possibility of Formation of Business
       Groups for IT Alumni
Majority of the subjects here is delivered by the Computer Science department but unfortunately,
the teacher was not able to come to the said activity.  There is a need to look into the details how
IPRO113, PROG113, PROG323, STPROG223 is being delivered to the students.
The upper year subjects will be adjusting the the strategies to be able to train the students in this
defficiencies.  Everyone agreed that teching techologies to student will be easier if students will be
good in this important skills.  All subjects should tain students to think critically, develop interpersonal
skills, leadership through proper teaching strategies.
Item 11.4.4 Entrepreneurial Capabilities of students is a good input done by our alumni Mr.
Giovanni Petratche.  Mr. Petrache is one of the first batch of IT graduates who went self employed and
became successful in it.  This requirement has to be added to the existing Profile of an Ideal BSIT
Graduate.  Further discussions is required on how to implement and train students to aquire this skill.
The need to setup an alumni group for self employed IT alumni was noted.

BSIT Directions for incoming 2nd
 Semester onwards.
After the discussion of outputs made by the teachers, Mr. Barcenas explained how the subjects
will be managed in the BSIT program.  The procedures and control mechanism was emphasized.  The
BSIT department will maintain the procedure on weekly lesson planning to be submitted at least a
minimum of 1 week before the actual class.  With this the department will have already a clear glimpse
on what to expect in the suceeding weeks of classes.
Mr. Barcenas also informed the faculty members that starting next semester, communications
regarding corrections, reminders on materials submitted to the department will be made more formal
through memos.  This document is critical and will be very usefull in the PAASCU visit this coming
November.
The BSIT deparment will be using the Don Bosco HEI Open Courseware website
http://hei.donbosco.net as the knowledge repository.  Format of the curriculum documents are already
available for data entry.  Don Bosco Canlubang will also use the same knowledge repository so that
there will be sharing of resources between BTTE maj in IT and BSIT program.

The current BSIT Program in Canlubang was different than that of the BSIT Program of
Mandaluyong.  According to the group, there were many subjects which was dropped from the
curriculum of BSIT Canlubang.  If the BSIT program of mandaluyong only delivered at least 85 to 90
percent, comparing the alumni inputs to the BSIT of Don Bosco Canlubang will only deliver 60%.  An
immediate review and revision of the program should be scheduled.
Starting Next Semester, BTTE program will start uploading materials in the hei website.  Sir
Gary will be adminstering the BTTE section of the website.
