3. Market Overview
In recent years, the market for established websites has evolved significantly.
Average purchase price of online businesses now exceed those of Bricks & Mortar
businesses.
More brokers and marketplaces specialise in facilitating website acquisitions
Investors are highly interested in buying profitable websites.
Demand exceeds supply
Preparations and Requirements
The business must be profitable
Minimal reliance on the owner
Traffic and revenue need to be verifiable
4. Resource #1 – Centurica’s 2014 Website
Buyers Report
Before selling, it is important to understand the actual value of your asset.
Don’t rely on brokers for a valuation
Some will quote you too little to get a quick deal
Others will quote you too much to get you to sign with them, then low-ball
Download Centurica’s 2014 Website Buyers Report (for free) to get real world
data on valuations across 6 different niches.

5. Resource #2- Directory of Reputable
Website Brokers
For mid- to high-value ($25,000 +) properties, brokers are your best bet
There are a number of fraudulent brokers out there, making selection important

Some Established Website Brokers
FE International – $25k+ listings, offices in London and San Francisco
Quiet Light Brokerage - $25k+ listings, based in the United States
Empire Flippers – mostly low-end (<$10k) listings. Highly transparent
Latona’s – large selection of listings, multiples somewhat higher than usual
Acquisitions Direct – mostly high-end ($100k+) listings. One of the early brokers
Proceed with caution and conduct your own due diligence before signing!
6. Resource #3 – Flippa.com and Other
Website Marketplaces
Flippa.com is by far the largest marketplace for websites and online businesses,
but not always the best solution.
Flippa is a good option for a DIY approach
You need to be able to properly market your listing and know the industry
Fees are somewhat lower than broker fees, but not by a lot
Be prepared to deal with tyre-kickers and non-paying bidders
Other marketplaces may not be the best option
DigitalPoint forum marketplace is relatively busy, but suitable mostly for extremely
low-end (<$1,000) sales.
Other auction-type marketplaces exist, but none have the critical mass necessary to
bring your listing in front of enough interested buyers
7. Resource #4- Solutions for Outsourcing
Making your website as little dependent on ‘you’ as possible will dramatically
improve its valuation.
A good solution is outsourcing recurring tasks to a third party.
Freelancer marketplaces like eLance.com and Freelancer.com are good for one-off
tasks but not perfectly suited for ongoing outsourcing.
GetFriday.com is a good option.
For the DIY approach, post an ad on Craigslist.com.ph and hire a Philippines-based
Virtual Assistant
8. Resource #5 – Reputable Escrow Services
As the levels of fraud are relatively high in the industry, it is important to stay
safe – especially when high-value payments and assets are involved.
Using an Escrow service is a must, to protect both the buyer and the seller.
Many reputable lawyers provide Escrow services, however the fees may not
be suitable for <$100,000 transactions.
Escrow.com is typically considered the most suitable and reputed platform for
domain- and website acquisitions.
EscrowHill.com is a new entrant in the industry, established by the former
management of Escrow.com.
Before signing an Escrow transaction, carefully study the rules that the
escrow company enforces in case of a dispute.
