Rulers of Vietnam Who ruled Indochina from the 1800s to World War II? France ruled Indochina from the 1800s until WWII.  Why did Vietnam Revolutionaries return to Vietnam in 1940? They returned to Vietnam in 1940 because France was weakened and they wanted to help fight for independence with the Viet minh.
United States Support	 What kind of support did the Eisenhower and Kennedy Administrations give to Vietnam? They supported south Vietnam to keep them from falling into communism, which north Vietnam already had, by training the south Vietnamese military.
Who Are/ What Is Ho Chi Minh- He was a Vietnamese veteran communist, and leading nationalist, who organized the Viet Minh Dien Bien Phu- War between France and Vietnam, in which France was defeated Domino Theory- Theory that if one nation fell to communism, the rest would fall too. Geneva Accords- This was a document that the United states refused to sign, that allowed Ho to control the northern half of Vietnam.
Maps  Indochina- This was a giant French empire in which it controlled several nations, including Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh Trail- This was a network of roads stretching from North Vietnam through eastern Laos to South Vietnam that formed a supply route for troops and supplies to support North Vietnam.
Question & Answer What was the main purpose of introducing the “body count”? Which administration’s efforts to mislead the American people were revealed by the publication of the Pentagon Papers? The Kennedy administration’s efforts of building up a massive army in vietnam mislead America.  Against whom did the ARVN fight? The ARVN fought against the vc (Vietcong), and the NVA(North Vietnamese Army)
Religion What were most Vietnamese’s faith based on? The Vietnamese faith was based on Buddhism.  How did cleric in Vietnam protest against Diem? Buddhist clerics protested Diem by publicly burning themselves to death.
Conflict What American Destroyer was involved in a conflict with North Vietnam patrol boat? The American Destroyer  “USS Maddox” was involved in a conflict with a North Vietnam patrol boat. What resolution did Congress give President Johnson? Congress gave Johnson the resolution to use broad military powers in Vietnam.
United States Leaders Who are the following: Johnson- Lyndon B. Johnson was the U.S president at the time of the Vietnam war. Robert McNamara- He was the Secretary of Defense under President Johnson. Dean Rusk- He was the Secretary of State under JFK and LBJ. Westmoreland- He was a great, powerful General of the US Military during the Vietnam War, and for many years to follow.
Elusive Enemy Why was the Vietcong and the North Vietnamese so hard to capture and fight? The Vietcong/North Vietnamese were so hard to fight because they knew their jungle terrain, and they ambushed. They also had many troops living in civil areas, making it impossible to differentiate from a civilian, and a foe. They also used tricky guerilla tactics. Was there a designated “Front Line”?
