Brijal Oza submitted a paper on the themes in Chetan Bhagat's novel "One Night @ the Call Center". The paper discusses themes of love and marriage seen through two character couples. It also examines the theme of a phone call from God, referred to as "Deus ex Machina", that saves the characters and resolves the plot. Nationality is a theme shown through an American character's disparaging comments about Indians. Globalization is a theme presented through three eras and how the novel portrays some positive and negative effects of increased global integration through technology.

6. Theme of phone call from God &
term: Dues ex Machina
Major theme and silent feature in the novel.
God presented as a friendly figure rather
than ‘BOSS’.
Presented in a modern way and speaking in
modern.
When all the characters met an accident and
no any sources are there save their lives.
At that time God’s call save them with many
message for life happily.
So that happy ending is here from God
He teaches lesson of self help. And suddenly
story take U tern, every character
of the novel tries to come out from their situa
tion and they get success also.
7. Term: Dues ex Machina
Deus ex Machina is comes from
Latin; it means “a god from a
machine.”
And it is the climax of the
novel.
This term can be found in ‘One
night @ the Call Center’.
Chetan Bhagat uses a call from
God to resolve a plot.
8. Theme of Nationality
In this novel the idea of nationality is here from
the conversation between Vroom and Mr. Fox
from America.
Fox: Hello, Fox here, who is calling?
Vroom: My name is victor, I am the call
center agent from…
Fox: Oh, damn you are the mother
fucking idiot from Indian.
Here we can see that how Fox said about the
people of Indian.
So, the implication is that Indian must develop a
greater sense of itself and reject the easy path of
playing second fiddle to the U.S.
Another example: 35 = 10
It means 35 years old American’s brain
and IQ is the same as a ten year old Indians' brain.

concept; it is a glaring reality, impinging upon
almost every aspect of human existence”.
