3. Greenstick Fracture A greenstick fracture is one where there is an incomplete break. The bone often bends or only partially breaks. This type of fracture usually occurs when bones are soft during infancy and childhood (thus the green name). The three types are transverse (longitudinal), buckling which is caused by impact and bow fracture which is curved.
5. Oblique Fracture An Oblique fracture is one at an angle to the bone. This type is usually the result of a sharp and angled blow directly to the bone. This fracture is similar to a spiral fracture, however this tends to be more of a straight break vs. a corkscrew shape.
7. Pathologic Fracture A Pathologic fracture is one caused by a diseased or weakened bone. Most commonly this fracture is caused by osteoporosis, but can also be caused by cancer, infections or cysts. Fragility fracture is a common type of pathologic fracture and is a result of falling during normal activities (from standing height or less).
