The secretary has kept organized logs of team discussions, documenting key points to keep members informed if absent. The role is important for maintaining a record of discussions and allowing the team to refer back to previous meetings. The secretary will continue documenting meetings and communicating with members to ensure accurate logs.
The document discusses conservative Republican views on the 2010 DREAM Act, which proposed pathways to citizenship for some illegal immigrants. Republicans viewed it as amnesty that would encourage more illegal immigration and take opportunities from American students. While over half of Americans supported it, it failed due to Republican opposition in the Senate. Republicans generally aim to strengthen border security before legalizing undocumented immigrants.

1. In regards to the role of secretary, I have kept a documented
record of the team’s discussions. I have kept my logs well
organized by dates and written well. I have kept each log brief
and kept to the point of our discussions. The role of the
secretary is important in the fact that I provide a running log of
what the team discusses. This log helps to keep the team
informed if someone were to miss a day of class or a meeting. It
also helps us to remember our previous discussions to refer
back to when we need to. I will continue to document any
further meetings or discussions the team has. I will also
continue to communicate with my fellow team members to
assure my logs are accurate.
Conservative Views
Republicans have addressed the issue of immigration in
education through the reaction of the 2010 DREAM Act. The
Act was made to help illegal immigrants who were brought to
the United States as children though higher education and
military as well as tax credits, social security, Medicare
benefits and federal student loans. It promotes the argument that
the DREAM Act would educate thousands of young people and
enlist them in Armed Forces which would benefit the United
States as well as boost the economy because of increased
productivity.
The Dream Act consisted of two main controversial parts: the
pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants instead of
deportation for children under the age of 16 and the second
consisted of provision of public benefits, particularly higher
education benefits. Higher education benefits would qualify to
students who were it not for their lack of legal residency. This
would fund public education for illegal immigrants which would
then affect federal budgets which has been a very controversial
subject for many Americans.
Republicans viewed the DREAM Act as “back door amnesty”
2. that would reward the violation of immigration laws. It would
then encourage more migration to the United States and
eventually strike an exponential population growth (Harvard
Journal of Legislation 623). It was also viewed a bad idea
because Republicans felt that the limited spots for higher
education would then be given to illegal aliens instead of
American candidates. Not only would the spots for higher
education be replaced with illegal aliens but the government aid
would rise and would affect tuition to subside to them as well.
There was thought by Republicans that the Act would grant
legal status to criminal illegal aliens as well as create a safe
zone for any of them facing deportation. Republicans aimed
more towards securing the boarders against immigration and
enforcing the immigration laws instead.
About 54% of Americans supported and favored the
pathway to citizenship and the DREAM Act in late 2010
(Harvard Journal of Legislation 625). Nine-in-ten or 91% of
Latinos for example, support the DREAM Act and 84% say
unauthorized immigrants should be eligible for in-state tuition
for public colleges if they attended high school in their state
and were to be accepted into the college (Motel 1). The DREAM
Act failed to pass because of the Senates composition of mostly
Republicans along with five Democrats what was looked upon
(by the public) as the last opportunity to pass such a bill before
Republicans were to take over the House. There was a
foreshadowing that it was unlikely that Congress would look
over the current immigration laws and change it in such a way
to “encourage” more illegal immigration. If the Act were to pass
then there would be an increase in immigration to the United
States. Republicans have made it clear that undocumented
immigrants should only be allowed to apply for legal status if
there was more control and security at the borders. There was a
majority of 56% of Republicans who felt that border control
should be more strongly established before immigrants try to
apply for legal status and there was 38% who thought they
should not have to increase border security for immigrants to
3. receive legal documentation (Motel 1).
In conclusion, Republicans have explored the topic of
immigration in education but more in the sense of monetary
affects. They feel as if changing immigration laws would also
increasingly change the rate as to which migration has been to
the United States. It would then increase population and cause
less jobs for American citizens and more financial support from
the government to the immigrants causing a toll on the countries
budget. They feel as if they were to eventually change
immigration laws to allow illegal aliens become citizens, and
then it would be very necessary to increase the security at the
borders. They feel it is important to increase security at the
borders so that there is less migration to the United States by
having it be more controlled. Even though Republicans have had
very narrow views on immigration, they are beginning to open
up to the possibilities that arise when it comes to citizenship
and immigrants.

Liberal Views on Education and Immigration
The country is divided when it comes to political
ideologies. Liberals and Conservatives rarely agree on the
proper way to handle current issues and education as it pertains
to immigration is no exception. For a country that was founded
by immigrants and once exclaimed to the world to “‘Give me
your tired, your poor,/Your huddled masses yearning to breathe
free,/The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,’” (Lazarus) we
are not very accepting of the immigrants of today. With a
broken economy and a growing general distrust, we are finding
it harder and harder for individuals of the world to be accepted
in the United States. Although, liberalism and being a Democrat
are not synonymous, they are closely related. Liberals tend to
affiliate themselves with the Democratic Party because of its
generally liberal views.
The Democrats today believe that immigration reform is
necessary. The official website for the Democratic National
Committee (DNC) states that “Democrats support
comprehensive reform grounded in the principles of
responsibility and accountability.” The DNC believes the
responsibility should be paced on the federal government to
secure the borders, businesses to not break the law by hiring
undocumented individuals, and individuals living here illegally
to recompense (“Immigration Reform”). The most prominent
Democrat, President Barack Obama, favors immigration reform
5. and has made his own proposal. His proposal consists of four
parts: continuing to strengthen border security, cracking down
on employers that hire undocumented workers, creating a path
to earned citizenship, and streamlining our legal immigrant
system (2“Immigration”). However, in order to fully understand
how liberals view immigration, we need to evaluate the
attitudes of the population.
As with the DNC, liberal consensus in the United States largely
agrees that reforminf the current system is necessary
(“Immigration Reform”). In a survey conducted February 14-23,
2014 by the Pew Research Center, 60% of Democrats polled
said that the passage of new immigration reform is
extremely/very important, as compared to the 46% of
Republicans. This gap between the Republicans and Democrats
has widened. In June of last year, the same poll revealed that
only 53% of Democrats felt that new immigration reform is
extremely/very important and 50% of Republicans did. In
addition, 81% of Democrats said that undocumented immigrants
should be allowed to stay legally, and the majority believe that
the increased deportation of the undocumented in recent years is
a bad thing (“Public Divided”).
When it comes to dealing with illegal immigrants in the United
States, a majority of Republicans and Democrats alike believe
that they should have the opportunity to apply for citizenship if
they meet certain requirements (“Most Say”). However, the two
parties are divided on whether or not immigrants strengthen or
weaken the United States. 58% of Democrats believe that
immigrants strengthen the country with their hard work and
talents, while only 33% Republicans believe the same thing.
58% of Republicans polled say that the growing number of
newcomers from other countries threatens American values,
whereas 61% of Democrats believe that they strengthen
American values (“Most Say”).
Hispanics in the United States are a growing force. They
account for a large number of those who immigrate and are the
majority minority in the United States as of 2012
6. (“Newsroom”). Hispanics also tend to identify with the
Democratic Party. In 2011, 67% of Hispanic registered voters
were affiliated with the party (Lopez et al.). The Democratic
view on immigration has garnered much support from the
Hispanic population. In the last presidential race, “Obama won
the Hispanic vote 71 to 27 percent, the largest margin of victory
in a presidential race since President Clinton…in 1996”
(1“Immigration”).
In general, liberals believe that immigrants are an asset to
American society and should be allowed the opportunity to be
accepted in the country. This leads to the belief that they should
be given opportunities to excel in education.

Role Description
I have taken over the job of both event coordinator and speaker
because we no longer have a full team to fulfil all of the jobs.
However, the two jobs are very closely linked, so it hasn’t been
a problem. I have made sure to figure out where our group is
meeting, and I will be giving each of my team members a
handout on Wednesday. I have also asked my team to come up
with two talking points they have discovered in their papers and
send them to me so that I can edit them and make sure it makes
sense with what we’re trying to get across. Finally, I have used
our group’s research to help me come up with the speech I will
deliver on the day of the event.

Immigration and education
National policy reform on immigration and education passed.
The Obama administration announced the acceptance for the
Deferred Action for childhood Arrivals, which intended to
suspend the deportation of young people residing lawfully in the
United States (Haugen, David, Musser, & Kacy). There is an
estimated two million immigrants in the United States who
might be eligible for Obama’s deferred deed initiative for
8. unofficial childhood conveyed to U.S as kids. This initiative
announcing to offer a two-year renewable amnesty from
transportation to unofficial immigrants is less than 31 years of
age and arrived in the United States 16 years ago or has always
been in the country for at least five years of residence. The
deed also appears to those immigrants without sentence for any
crime, are presently in school, have advanced from high school,
or sensed in the U.S army.
Thus, the Obama administration is better to move on with
immigration reforms, which included; the immigration reform
system legalized to function more successfully, taking precise
response to labour market, thus, enhancing U.S effectiveness.
Consequently, reinstates the reliability of immigration laws
through an implementation system, which disheartens managers
and workers from their external action of the lawful system,
safeguards America's boundaries, and charges substantial
consequences in touch with those who disrupt the guidelines.
Proposes a just, caring, and arranged technique to permit
numerous of the coarsely millions of migrants presently
residing unlawfully in the U.S to receive the legal rights of
living in the country. This is worth implementation since the
immigrants could aid in increasing the U.S economy, as they are
very hard working persons, registration of these immigrants
with contextual authorizations would certify that we know who
is here and will allow the U.S powers to pay attention to
implementation properties on criminal essentials and safety
pressures instead of meticulous intimate memberships.
Partisan actions sometimes explain the possibility for getting a
national policy failure. The September 11 outbreaks still a
possible immigration reform package in its ways. Before the
outbreak, President George W. Bush meeting with Mexican
president, Vicente Fox, a number of times discussing about the
Latinos becoming the significant individuals of swing voters
known for nowadays , hence calling for consensual immigration
reforms. Subsequent to the bomber attacks, nevertheless,
immigration implementation turns out to be identical with
9. rebellious terrorism, and talks concerning reform for
immigration system forgotten at the beginning. Ever since then,
immigration sticklers have efficiently used panic rumours about
immigrants, predominantly those deprived of lawful status, as a
political mallet in party primary polls (Haugen, David, Musser,
& Kacy).
Partisan congestion has recurrently prohibited Congress from
refurbishing the immigration system. Therefore, merely
coefficients in the nation’s immigration policy during this era
have remained enormous upsurges in boundary and internal
implementation efforts (Haugen, David, Musser, & Kacy).
These presented some outcomes at the boundary but no
touchable failure in the inhabitant unlawful residents until the
beginning of the Pronounced Recession of around 2008, through
which undocumented immigration reduced to nothing, with
faintly more persons parting the country than incoming.
The 2012 presidential election argued directly to the political
domineering of moving ahead with immigration reform (Urias &
David, 2012). Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney
implemented one of the greatest thrilling immigration platforms
of a presidential contender in current memory. That change to
shore up an outlying of Republicans in hunt of the nomination
ruined his aptitude to contest for the Latinos votes and some
immigrants. Exit surveys showed a scanty 28 percent of the
Latino voted for Romney, around full four percent below the 32
percent of Latino voters voted John McCain in 2008.
Complete immigration reform is vital to endure the custom of
invention that immigrants have gotten to national economy to
safeguard equal playing ground for American employees. While
majority of Americans are backing complete immigration
reform, Republicans remain to stand in its ground. Despite
having more than sufficient time for reforms implementation,
Republicans only continue to hide it and end up giving excuses.
The worst part being that they can make a choice to pass
immigration reform any time (Urias & David, 2012). There is a
bilateral bill in the house for nearly six months and already has
10. enough support to pass.
Public opinion sampling has revealed that many of the
Americans intensely approve smart and stable resolutions to
repair a wrecked immigration system that is presently worsening
to serve the core U.S interests.
