How to Create a
Successful Career
Change
Making a constant
career switch is not
good for your resume
and doesn’t guarantee
career success either.
Why do people still
leave their jobs in
exchange for something
that can’t promise a
lifetime of career
security? Whatever
reasons they may have,
one thing is for sure;
changing careers usually means investing your time,
effort and money until you eventually run out of it.
Your career is like an investment, and therefore, you
need to be well informed before you make any changes
to it. We will help you create an informed decision on
whether you need a few weeks break from work or a
career switch. Here are the steps:
1.
Ask yourself “do I really need a career change?”
– Perhaps you just need a find a new job or take a few
days off from work to lessen career related stress. A job
change is simpler than changing your entire career. If
your career doesn’t make you happy and isn’t making
any signs of moving forward despite your best efforts,
then just follow your heart.
2.
Evaluate yourself – after deciding on a career
change, take time to know yourself better. Find out
what else you can do. Consider your skills, interests and
values that you could enhance or use to pursue your
future career goals.
3.
Write down the top 3 jobs you can apply for
under this career – create a list of the possible jobs you
can apply for given your skills and interests. Although
they may not seem enough, you can work on them later

on. Try jobs that appeal to you or you have considered
doing before.
4.
Research on these jobs – find time to read and
understand the duties and responsibilities of this job.
Check if you meet the qualifications and requirements
of any of these particular occupations, including career
advancement opportunities and the salary.
5.
Choose “the job” – complete your research and
when satisfied, narrow it down to the job you carefully
selected.
6.
Meet people – get the best source of
information about your job option from the people who
have been working in the same field as your career of
choice.
7.
Create your goals – write down your short and
long term goals including the strategies you need to
make to make the career shift as easy as possible.
Slowly take the steps one at a time.
8.
Invest – start training for your new career.
Prepare by enrolling in short courses or undergo paid
trainings to get the necessary skills and knowledge
needed for your new career. It may take time and
money but it will all be worth it in the end.
Whether we admit it or not, changing careers can
sometimes be the only resort to reach career fulfillment
and success. It takes a courageous person to go after
what he wants and succeed at it, no matter what cost.
These easy steps will guide you in preparing for a career
change and will help you make the entire process as
easy and convenient as possible.

Career Search in 5
Steps
There is no age limit when it comes to a career search
because as human as we are, we are all capable of
making mistakes. These mistakes involve our choices in
life, even those choices that felt right in the beginning
and wrong in the end; one example of such is choosing
your career. There are several factors that could have
influenced our decision when choosing a career to
settle for, it could be our background, our family history
or career pressure. Now that you have realized that this
is not for you, you have every right to switch careers
and find the best one for you. There are 7 basic steps to
follow to make a successful career search.

Doing a career search can be really challenging because
we need to figure out a lot of things about ourselves.
Yes, you can make mistakes in choosing a career that is
why these 5 basic steps will guide you and keep you on
track when things get a little shaky. Just remember to
follow your heart in every decision you make regarding
your career.

1.
Evaluate yourself –through the years, it is fair to
say that you probably already know what your strengths
and weaknesses are, including your skills, hobbies and
interests. Take a hard look on yourself and your past
experiences including the years you spent in school.
Write them down so you can start creating a career
search strategy that is made just for you.

Career Change at
Forties

2.
Prepare –if you are considering a career that
requires skills you still need to learn or improve, take
time to enroll in classes or short courses that will help
you practice these skills to prepare you for the career of
your choice. Participate in as much helpful training as
possible to increase your earning potential in the future.
3.
Create an outstanding resume and cover letter
– these letters will create a big impact in the entire
application process because at one glance, recruiters
can easily identify if you are worthy of their time, so
make sure they are free from grammatical and spelling
errors. Aside from writing all the necessary information
about your work history and your qualifications, make
sure that they are geared towards the job you are
considering to land.
4.
Interact –let people know that you are
searching for a career. Your friends and family members
may know of something or someone that is hiring or in
particular need of a job or career you are dreaming of.
These people can help you in your search so don’t be
embarrassed to share it to the people who matter most
to you.
5.
Check your finances –if you are doing a career
search, you need to check your finances and make sure
that you have enough to sustain your needs just until
you find a new job and receive your paycheck for the
first 3 months.

At 40, some people take
a turnaround and begin
to look at life in a
different perspective.
Perhaps they begin to
experience what they
call a “midlife crisis”
wherein their attitude
and outlook in life
change big time. Some
feel that life is too short
to get stuck in an
unfulfilling job that they
have endured for as
long as they can remember and find nothing wrong in
changing their careers to find something satisfying and
worthy of their time.
If you start to feel that you need a big change in your
Career, nobody can stop you because that is your life.
However, let me remind you that a career change
doesn’t happen overnight in your sleep. This process
needs careful and effective planning as well as a
considerable amount of time to turn into a success. But
don’t you worry because we will help you determine
which new career path is the right one for you.
1.
Create a list –to find out the things that you are
good at; you need to take time or spend a few days
evaluating yourself, your skills, your inspiration, and
your interests. Write them down including your hobbies
and your past experiences that you enjoyed doing,
which are not related to your current job. Don’t forget
the skills that you are making use at work and those in
your free time. If your list of interests overlaps your
skills, then we can make out of what career is good for
you.
2.
Invest in yourself – you need to understand that
sometimes you don’t have the most excellent skills to
change careers just because you are good at something.
Enrolling in classes or short courses will help you
enhance your skills and build new and better ones, as
well as increase your earning potential in the long run.
3.
Offer a helping hand – write down your top 3
career options and look for volunteer opportunities to
find out if any of those careers appeal to you. It will also
help you narrow your choices down to the top 2 until
you choose the best one for you. It is also a good
chance to see if your skills are good enough or if you
need more time to improve.
4.
Expand your network – at this age, there is no
denying that you perhaps built good relationships with
some people but these people are not the people you
can ask about your new career of choice. It is time to
meet new people who are in the same field as your
career of interest to know more about it and to get an
idea of what the jobs are like.
Changing Careers doesn’t happen in a snap, and even at
your forties, you still need to follow these 4 basic steps
to get you ready for this big transition in your life. Just
follow your heart and trust your instincts because you
only live once, and you have every right to be happy just
like everyone else.
