4. Gratitude
• An attitude of gratitude is not just a pious platitude!
• Gratitude is one of the basic traits of a healthy Christian
• Lack of gratitude can make you sick mentally,
spiritually and even physically
• “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit
dries up the bones.” Prov. 17:22
5. In Every Situation
• “Give thanks in all
circumstances; for this is
God’s will for you in
Christ Jesus.”
• “Always giving thanks to
God the Father for
everything, in the name
of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Eph. 5:20
6. Grateful People
• Probably get sick less
• Probably live longer
• Enjoy life and others more
• People like them more
• Think God’s thoughts more
• Attract the Holy Spirit’s
Presence
• Demonstrate the power of God
7. Enemies of Gratitude
• Many childhood memories of being sad or mad
• Feels more normal than happy gratitude feelings
• Gratitude = vulnerability or revenge
• Might be disappointed again. Safer to not be grateful
• “Can’t let them know I am grateful. I hate them.”
• GOD WANTS TO SPEAK TO YOU ABOUT THIS!
8. Three Things: II For. 5
• We are definitely going to heaven!
• God is going to reward us for every good
thing we did
• We are hand-picked Ambassadors of the
King of Heaven to the people of earth!
9. 1-Heaven is Our Home
• For we know that if the earthly
tent we live in is destroyed, we
have a building from God, an
eternal house in heaven, not
built by human hands.
• For while we are in this tent, we
groan and are burdened,
because we do not wish to be
unclothed but to be clothed
instead with our heavenly
dwelling,
• so that what is mortal may be
swallowed up by life. VS 1-5
10. 2-God Rewards
• Prayers prayed in secret
• Tears shed for righteousness
• Sacrificial love of parents
• Helping the needy
• All obedience to Him
• A heart of worship & humility
• Forgiving our enemies
• Returning good for evil
11. God Rewards
• “For we must all appear
before the judgment seat of
Christ, so that each of us may
receive what is due us for the
things done while in the body,
whether good or bad.” 2 Cor.
5:10
• Good works do not get us to
heaven
• But all good works will be
rewarded in heaven
12. God Promises
• “… and each one will receive His own reward
ACCORDING TO HIS OWN LABOR.” (1 Corinthians 3:8)
• “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with
Me, to give to everyone ACCORDING TO HIS
WORK.” (Revelation 22:12)
13. Do It Just for Him
Matt 6
• “…so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father,
who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” 3-4
• But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and
pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who
sees what is done in secret, will reward you. v.6
• But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,
so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting…
and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward
you. vs. 17-18
• “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” vs. 19-21
14. 3-His Ambassadors
• “And he has committed to us
the message of reconciliation.
• We are therefore Christ’s
ambassadors, as though God
were making his appeal
through us. Vs. 18-20
15. Our Assignment
As Ambassadors
• Represent the King of Heaven to people on earth
• Speak to them with the authority of the King
• Convey to them the King’s messages called the Gospel
• Invite people to become citizens of heaven as often as
possible
• Accept hardships and rejection by people. Forgive and bless
in return—just as the King of Heaven did on earth.
• Do whatever the King tells you to do!
