• To promote their core business
• To crusade for their cause
• To proactively and positively message their strategy
• To advocate for a policy change
• To educate the public and stakeholder groups
• To canvass for funds

• All Board and staff members should be participants in a culture
which embraces and encourages them as ambassadors of the
Vision/Mission/Mandate of the organization.
• The CEO needs to lead the process of championing the
organization as the Chief Advocacy Officer

• The CEO advocates from a position of authority.
• Ensures continuity and singularity of the message.
• People, funders/investors specifically, want/need to hear from
the “top”.
• The CEO’s direct endorsement instills confidence -- internally
and externally -- and demonstrates accountability
