bothering with?
• FaceBook
• Twitter
• Youtube
• LinkedIn
• And now there is GPlus
4. A few pointers on using Social Media
for business before we begin...
• It’s all about building relationships &
connecting first & foremost. Business
second. Treat Social Media like a party or
networking event
• Strategies will differ for different business
types. There’s no one size fits all solution
• Use the Slight Edge Philosophy, this will take
time & you need to be in it for the long haul
9. Global Distribution
• You now have access to your own
global TV Channel & Printing Press
• You can drive traffic and make sales
from any place in the world
10. It’s Never Been Easier To
Build Strong Relationships
With Your Customers
20. Why All The Hype?
• Over 800 Million Users worldwide on
• FaceBook, which means 1 in 9 people in
the world are on FaceBook
• If FaceBook were a country they would be
the 3rd largest in the world
• 50% of users log on any given day
• People average 4 log ins per day spending over 30 mins in
total. That’s 6 whole days each year of just FaceBook time!
• 15% of all UK traffic & 25% of all USA traffic is FaceBook
activity
• Search Engines refer approximately about 7% of visits to it
• Over 200 million active users on FaceBook Mobile every day
21. So why is FaceBook so good?
Quite simply, it’s where everyone
is!
Their users are loyal and they
spend lots of time on Facebook
22. So where to begin?
• You need to somehow be connected to people
on Facebook so that you can drive traffic in
these 3 main ways...
• By having access to their newsfeeds
• By being able to send a message to their inbox
• By being able to invite them to attend an event
23. Fan Pages were designed
with businesses in mind
Unlimited fans, can send messages to a folder in
their inbox, get’s into newsfeeds & most importantly
you are allowed to talk business
24. Before we start asking people
to “Like” our fan page
We need to have something in place
Bait!
28. Entice Them With Bait
• It’s called a Reveal Tab
• You must provide a High Quality
Incentive...
• Free PDF, Video, Audio, Software,
Coupon or Consultation
• It’s made using I frames this is the only technical
aspect of a FaceBook page so just outsource it or
use easy software...
• I recommend Fast Fan Pages
• If outsourcing use Fiverr.com or Odesk.com
29. My top 8 ways to get people to like

33. Like Box

or website can instantly
“Like” your fanpage
• People can view your
latest posts & get a feel
for your content

many fans you have
which adds social proof
34. Page Badge
• Similar to the Like Box just a little more
basic
• Like a sign post to your fan page. Shows your
profile picture very prominently
• Can get it at
http://www.facebook.com/badges/page.php
35. Like Button
• Adds social proof & can go viral
• Every person who clicks this button shares it
to their wall & can get into their friends
newsfeeds
• This is not Traffic to your Fan page but it is
Traffic directly to your website or blog
36. Comments
• Comments on your
website or blog
• Each comment is shown
not only on your site but
on their FB wall too!
• You will get more
comments using FB than
any other platform,
people are hardwired to
comment on FaceBook
37. Guest Blogging
• Find blogs related to your topic & keywords in
Google (Higher traffic the better)
• Send an email to the owners of the site asking if
you can write a guest post for them
• Write a quality article or do an interview together
• At the end of the article include a link to your fan
page with a call to action
• Cool resource – bloggerlinkup.com
38. Joint Venture
• Find other related pages & group admins
who have an audience who may be
interested in your page
• Offer to do a reciprocal link exchange of
some kind
• Either...
• Do a status update for one another
recommending their page on your wall
• Send an update for one another (need
both need reveal tabs to pull this off)
• Like each other pages & include as a featured like
39. Text Message

like yourusername
• So for me it’s... like josephbushnell
• Great for public speakers
• Offline ads & signage
• Radio
• Webinars
• Even just one on one
40. QR Codes
• People who have the QRReader on
their phone can get instant access to
any website, you can use your FB fan page
• http://qurify.com is a Free QR code
Generator
• Use on business cards & networking events
• Use in print, brochures, posters, books etc
41. Paid FB Traffic - FaceBook Ads
Age
Gender
Location
Interests
Relationship Status
Language
Education
Sexuality
Work
Birthday
42. The formula to make sure your posts show in
other peoples news feeds
FaceBook uses an algorithm called Edge Rank to
decide on what to show in people newsfeeds
43. Edge Rank
• Relationship – How often do you talk & interact with
that user? How often do they view your content or
page?
• Popularity – How many likes, comments & shares did
that particular update get? The more the better. This
means crafting your message in such a way that gets
people to do this
• Time Decay – If you do these first two correctly then
your posts will stay in the newsfeed for longer
44. • Over 200 million users worldwide on Twitter
• Twitter is also good for B2B which is a slight
weakness of FB
• Good Sharing culture on Twitter! Retweets!
Ask for them, give incentives if necessary!
• Have a completed bio & background, people
need to be able understand what you do in just
a few seconds. Include branding, contact
details & pictures of you
• Give great content & redirect the traffic to your
website or blog etc
45. How To Get Followers
• Follow them first, many will follow you back
• Follow people who you identify as people who
potentially may be interested in what you tweet
about (They leave clues)
• You will have a difficult time if you try to be a
Twitter snob. Your success will be limited
• How many new people to follow will depend on
your business & your potential audience
• Once someone is following they can get your
Tweets & Messages
46. Follow by Interest/Topic or
Geographical
• Twellow – The Twitter yellow pages, lists
people by industry. Twellowhood for Geo
targeting
• Search.twitter.com – Real time conversations
based on keywords & Geography
• Brandchirp – Saves time. Simply drag &
drop, semi-automated. Geo option too
• Listorious or Twibes to find people listed for
certain topics or regions
47. Justunfollow.com
• Of some of the people who you follow won’t
decide to follow you back
• Every so often you need to flush your non-
followers to even up your ratio
• Unfollow non-followers only! Not your followers!
• Quick follow churn can get you in trouble, so
only do this once in a while. I recommend once
a week maximum
48. SocialOomph.com
• Use socialoomph.com to send an automatic
welcome message to new followers
• Use a softly, softly approach. Gentle nudge in
direction of your site or simple
hello/conversation starter. Don’t try to sell
• You can also schedule Tweets. Best to
Tweet a few times a day, so schedule in
advance if necessary
