Should You Pay For Ads to Make
Money with Facebook?
Ever since Facebook sent out a message saying We expect organic distribution of
an individual page’s posts to gradually decline over time,” and that paid ads would
be prioritized for visibility, everyone has been snarling and raging, and
understandably so. For most people who manage business pages and fan pages,
the equal playing field has been taken away. Now, it’s just like everywhere else –
whoever has the most money gets ahead of the game. The first reaction that most
people had was to want to abandon Facebook completely. But how do you turn your
back to millions of potential customers all just spending their time at this online
playground? The answer is, you don’t.
Facebook might have made widening your reach harder by bringing paid ads into
play but that doesn’t mean you can’t find an advantage that you can use to make
money with Facebook. The idea is to make the most out of a small ads budget, say
$1 a day. While Facebook might have gone corporate on us by charging for online
marketing on their ‘free’ platform, they’re still offering the lowest cost for every 1 000
impressions out there which is approximately $0.25. By setting your daily budget to
$1, you can gain 4 000 impressions more than your competition and it will only cost
you all of $30. Assumptions aside, I think most businesses can afford an ads budget
of $30 a month.
Can you slug it out by sticking to free advertising? Yes, but it will take a lot more
work, hours spent behind the monitor with you having to actively build connections.
It kind of defeats the purpose of using an existing platform that’s popular worldwide
because instead of easing the marketing load, it just adds to it. Unfortunately, after
the change to paid ads, unpaid business pages found that their impressions made
dropped to an average of 20%. But with $1 a day, you can reach 4 000 people that
wouldn’t have seen you otherwise. No it’s not better than free, but it has become a
necessary evil for many small business owners.
Facebook has at least made life easier by allowing users to set a cap for their daily
budget by changing Ad Set Budget values. After using up $1, your ad will
automatically stop being shown, at least on the paid lists. The silver lining to these
changes is that with a small budget, you can still make money with Facebook and be
competitive in its online market. And compared to the costs of alternative and
traditional marketing, it’s still very, very affordable.
Whichever route you decide on, whether you want to stick it out with free marketing
or you’re thinking of investing a dollar a day, you should always be working on
building an email list. An email list is the heart of every online marketing campaign
and its value will last a lot longer than the likes and shares you get from Facebook. If
you’re investing time or money in Facebook, don’t forget to use it to build your list.
