2. I SAMUEL 28: 4 -7
“ The Philistines assembled and came and set up
camp at Shunem, while Saul gathered all Israel and
set up camp at Gilboa. 5 When Saul saw the
Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his
heart. 6 He inquired of the LORD, but the LORD did
not answer him by dreams or Urim or
prophets. 7 Saul then said to his attendants, “Find
me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and
inquire of her.”
“There is one in Endor,” they said.
3. EVERYTHING IS UPSIDE DOWN
• Saul has been out trying to find and kill David
• David is now working for the Philistines
• Saul’s attempts to hear from God are in vain
• A spiritist is being engaged by the King of Israel
• The deceased Samuel is being summoned from the
afterlife
• The death of Saul and his sons (including Jonathan) is
predicted
• The once mighty Saul becomes totally feeble
4. THE SPIRITUAL WORLD W/O THE FEAR OF THE LORD
• He could have stopped trying to kill David after the first time David
showed him mercy
• He could have made efforts to reconcile with David and publicly
acknowledge His upcoming succession
• He could have sought the Lord for His own sake and not just because he
was under the threat of attack
But he waited until the “heat was on” and then PANICKED –
tapping the spiritual world; but without the fear of the Lord.
Other biblical examples of those who did not finish well? Have you
ever observed a once exemplary believer end their life
disastrously?
5. A KING WHO REPENTED - MANASSEH
2 Chronicles 33: 10 - 13
The LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no
attention. 11 So the LORD brought against them the army
commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh
prisoner, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze
shackles and took him to Babylon. 12 In his distress he sought
the favor of theLORD his God and humbled himself greatly
before the God of his ancestors.13 And when he prayed to
him, the LORD was moved by his entreaty and listened to his
plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his
kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD is God.
