14. From a small town
midway between
Lansing and Grand
Rapids, Diane inched
her way east to us.
Diane and her husband, Klaus, live in Ypsilanti and
have been married for 40 years. Diane was clearly
a child bride.
15. Diane enjoys knitting and
quilting and makes afghans for
babies and veterans that are
donated to charities through
her church.
This fall, while we are pre-testing and
strategizing, she and Klaus will be taking a
relaxing trip to eastern Canada.
16. She’ll miss teaching good nutrition and
parenting skills.
She’ll miss working with a friendly and
supportive staff and administration.
And, surely, she will miss students getting
excited about making a really good muffin.
17. Joyce grew up in
Ypsilanti, went to school
there - right through
Eastern. While earning
two majors and a
minor, she completed
enough hours to earn a
triple major.
Please join with us in finishing, “Once a Huron…”
(Note to Young Ones - the Hurons were EMU’s
mascots before the Eagles.)
18. Joyce worked for
many summers
restoring the St.
Helena Lighthouse,
west of Mackinac
Island.
Despite the really primitive camping, Joyce
would like to get back into doing it again.
19. When Joyce first came to Annapolis,
she was the Cheerleading Coach and
the Synchronized Swim Team Coach.
Synchronized Swimming, originally a club,
performed swim shows. Joyce worked
towards its acceptance as a Varsity Sport
and once it was, Joyce’s team competed all
over southeastern Michigan.
Eventually, she took over the Girls’
Competitive Swim Team, keeping her in the
pool eleven months a year.
20. Janet brought to us the
interesting background
of having spent 30
years in the ER, mostly
as a Trauma Specialist
or an ER manager.
Janet and her husband, Lou, live in Berkley and
have been married for 51 years. They have four
children and nine grandchildren.
21. Janet enjoys sewing,
gardening, and traveling. She’ll
be learning to use her new
sewing machine, as many of us
will still be struggling to use
CLASS A.
She and Lou have a motor home and will
be dividing their time between Texas, and
traveling throughout the U.S.
22. Did you know… Janet was appointed by
President Bush to a Nuclear Disaster Team,
formed after the Chernobyl Disaster, that
could respond to such events anywhere in
the world.
The Team attended conferences and mock
disasters, but was never sent out of the
states. Janet carried an international credit
card and travel papers – but surrendered
them upon her retirement.
23. Although Barbara joined
us the most recently,
coming to us two
years ago from O.W.
Best, she quickly
became part of our
Annapolis family.
As this year ends, Barbara is completing 33 years
of teaching.
24. Between them, Barbara and her husband,
Allen, share six children and 10
grandchildren. They live in Huntington Woods
and spend time in Tucson.
Did you know… Barbara is a
consummate lover of food
preparation and has taken
cooking classes in Florence,
Italy. Rigatoni With Basil Pine Nut Crunch
25. Now with her copious free time, Barbara will
continue her volunteer work with Common
Ground, will enjoy her cello, will expand her
clinical practice… and will explore the
possibility of teaching abroad.
26. Together, our fabulous foursome, have
completed 100 years of teaching and have
touched innumerable lives.
As a final gesture of goodwill to us all, they
have met these past weeks with Mr. Scott
to express themselves creatively and
perform a memorable work of art…
