3. The foundation plans to take a multipronged
approach to solving this issue. Spending will
be spread across research, outreach, and
education initiatives.
4. Research efforts spearheaded by the Benevis
Foundation will look at various dental delivery
models and analyze the potential cost savings
of early access to dental care through federal
and state systems.
5. Outreach programs include Operation Troop
Treats, which sends candy and dental kits to
troops serving overseas, and Sharing Smiles
Day, which provides free dental care to
children in need. This past year, Sharing
Smiles Day provided dental care to more than
450 children without dental coverage.
6. Education outreach involves both continuing
education coursework for dentists and
classroom lesson plans for children in
kindergarten through fifth grade that
emphasize the importance of dental health.
To support upcoming generations of dentists,
the foundation donates to clinical training
programs.
7. Most recently, the organization donated
$25,000 to the Louisiana State University
School of Dentistry.
