Evaluation Question 4: How did you use new media technologies in the research...
Thiller evaluation.
1. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
2. Canon ZR800 (Mini DV digital camcorders) I used this all through the making and preparing of our thriller. This includes our preliminary exercise, our rehearsal and our opening of ‘One by One’. However before I started using the cameras our teachers taught us how to use them, for example, turning them off and on, how to start and stop recording.
3. iMac computers; I learnt many things but using the iMac computers as I had never used them before. I used the iMac for applications used to edit our thriller opening, to blog, research and to find our music/ make our music.
4. Finalcut Express; Final Express is an application on the iMac computer that I used to edit all our filming. This was very tricky for us as we haven’t used it before. I learnt how to use it by going through a tutorial online and gradually learning how to use it by asking our teachers.
5. Livetype; I used livetype to create our title sequence and our IDENT. This is also an application on the iMac computer that I haven’t before used. I learnt to use this by experimenting and choosing different aspects we like.
6. Safari; Safari was very helpful when my group needed research, upload our videos and to use my blog. I found it very easy to use as it was the same as internet explorer.
7. Social Networks; Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter were used to promote our thriller opening and ask people to fill in my surveys about thrillers.
8. Youtube; This was used to upload our videos and to get the embed code to transfer it to my blog. This was really easy to use as I have used it at home before.
9. Mobygratis; Mobygratis is a website that contains unsigned music that students like us could use for school projects. However before I could use the music I have to ask a few questions and wait until I had permission to use it. My group just looked through music and figure out what would sound good in certain scenes.
10. Blogger; On blogger.com I created my blog to show my process of research and our thriller opening. This was interesting to use as I was not used to using a blog to show what I have done.
11. Wordle; I created a word cloud from wordle to show what aspects of a thriller that the teenagers who answered my survey liked. I thought using a word cloud would make my blog more interesting.
12. Survey Monkey; I have never used survey monkey or made a survey in my life, therefore I thought it would be complicated, however I was wrong as it was very easy to used. I didn’t need any teachers help as I did it at home. I created a survey for people at home (including other members of my media class) to answer so I could get more information from the public about thrillers.
13. Digital cameras; My group used digital cameras, that have been supplied from school, to take pictures of our locations (the flat and the forest).
