My presentation on a director's perspective of Wintertime.

2. THE SCRIPT
 Wintertime was chosen
because it’s dichotomy of love and
hate provide a perfect foundation
for our production team to
showcase it’s creativity.

3. CASTING
 Strong male leads with convincing emotion needed.
Leonardo Dicaprio as Francois
Established actor, looks older, can deliver
the powerful lines Francois has
Joshua Gordon Levitt as Jonathan
Young actor, can look the dorky part
Bryan Cranston as Frank
Can pass as a father and can
look tired and depleted as
Frank is
James Franco as Edwina
Younger than Frank, can play a more
metrosexual role

4. CASTING
 Female leads with flaring tempers are required.
Betty White as Hilda
Elder actress with great talent
Emma Watson as Ariel
Great actress who has an innocent
look but can deliver the seething lines
Ariel has
Sandra Bullock as Maria
Older actress that has great talent
and has the voice to sound very
intimidating
Jamie Lee Curtis as Bertha
Older, can play the sarcastic and
harsh personality of Bertha

5. THE SPINE
 The spine of the play are the struggles the characters have with
one another over love.

6. HOW IT ALL CONNECTS
 The actors will scatter the proscenium stage in pairs, always at
odds, to present the conflict between the couples.
 Ambient lighting will be sparse with a dim glow in the middle of
the stage, helping to push the idea of isolation despite being together.
 Think of the actor placement and actions as a basketball defense.

7. NATURALISM
 Extreme realism helps the audience sympathize with the characters
and the internal conflicts with love they possess.
 The violent scenes will actually be enacted, enhancing the anguish
the audience feels.

8. THE WINTER
 The cold of the season will be the prevailing motif throughout the
play.
 The winter itself represents the rift between the characters, the
snow on the set, the characters reactions to the
cold, shivering, rubbing their hands, etc. will be prominent
throughout.

9. TO SIGNIFY THE END
 In the final scene, to calm the nerves of the audience, and present
some closure, the winter motif will be abandoned.
 Warm lighting and a fireplace will ignite the passion between
Jonathan and Ariel.
