claim a refund.

This fraud can take two forms-
1. True Name Identity Theft: When a thief uses personal information

2. Account Takeover Identity Theft: When personal information is
being used to obtain access to existing accounts of a person.This
can be done by changing the mailing address of an account and
make huge transactions without getting aware of the victim.

this fraud is "early filing of tax return".
Protect your data using following steps:
Use firewalls, anti-virus or other
security software.
Learn to recognize suspicious
activities/messages by reviewing your
credit report.
Don't share or carry your
Social Security Number or card unless
necessary.

Be attentive when you are
contacted by accounting
professional or IRS regarding:
The tax return is filed more
than once using the same
SSN.
If warnings against the
additional tax, refund offset
or collections is received for
the year in which tax return is
not filed.
IRS records unidentifiable
income received.
