Part of maintaining innovative leadership within the desktop card issuance space is the constant gathering of input from several touch points. Over the last few years, we have reached out to several channel partners, end users and internal stakeholders to identify, create and validate new product features, functions and benefits. With the input of many out to solve various business problems and the years of design expertise within HID Global, we have created a new direct-to-card product line - the advanced generation of FARGO direct-to-card printers…
This is a whole new DTC product line that combines versatility, providing end users a future proof product, and simplicity, to offset limited training resources or time and more importantly, the belief that operating a card printer should not take more time than one is accustomed to with their own home page printer. This slide shows that each product within this family now promotes FARGO as the product brand. The model name will always be preceded by the FARGO brand. Persona as a brand will no longer exist for the new products. In addition, HID will be visible on every product as the corporate brand.
With this new FARGO DTC product line, we are introducing several industry first innovations… Swift ID – No other manufacturer in the industry offers an embedded badging application that allows an end user to design and print a badge without installing application software on the PC. NO internet connection required. This will be covered more later… SmartScreen graphical display – there are plenty of LCDs in this industry, but not graphical displays like this where we have the ability through picture to tell an end user the state of the printer. For example, if the printer is out of cards, the graphical display will show a picture of the printer with the input card hopper blinking to indicate the area of interest. At the same time, the color changing status buttons will change from blue to red enabling an end user to see the issue from a distance. Print and encode through one USB or Ethernet connection – we introduced with the HDP5000 the ability to inline print and encode through one USB connection to PC. Now, we are also introducing the ability to do this through Ethernet. The Ethernet connection opens up opportunities in the networked environment where a database of records might be stored in a central location, and more than one printer must exchange information with a central location. The financial or education markets are good examples. Rewrite – all the DTC printers now have the capability to color personalize or utilize rewrite technology. Others in the industry typically offer this only on the low end. Modularity – no other manufacturer has the ability to offer future proof products like HID as we have the broadest offering of easy to install field-upgrade modules. Flexible footprint – the DTC4000 and DTC4500 are able to change in footprint to accommodate just about every desktop space. Traditional FARGO configuration is cards in from the right and out from the left. We now have the ability to change the configuration of the printer such that the cards feed in and eject from the same side, narrowing the overall width of the printer. The graphical display is also field-adjustable to be on the same side as the card input/output. Enhanced throughput performance with at least a 10% increase in print speed.
Each model builds upon the previous. The DTC1000 is positioned as the entry-level, simple and cost effective solution, including Swift ID – the embedded badging application. With the DTC4000, we introduce the flexible footprint allowing the printer to fit into many more desktop configurations, a new SmartScreen graphical display, field upgradeability for all functionality and entry level security for businesses looking to introduce more card and card issuance security to their credential programs. The DTC4500 builds upon the DTC4000 and is well suited for higher volume card personalization as it is capable of holding higher capacity ribbons, comes standard with industry unique dual-input card hoppers for higher card capacity and flexibility in card management, standard networkability and the ability to support card lamination for higher card security and durability.
Let’s look at the entry-level, simple and cost effective DTC1000…
Intuitive – based on the ribbon cartridge, the printer driver is able to detect what type of ribbon is installed, indicate how much is left and auto configure optimal settings within the driver. The industry unique color changing status buttons give the end user the ability to see from a distance if the printer needs attention. Cost effective – with Swift ID embedded within the printer, the end user does not have to purchase any additional software to design and print a badge. This will be discussed in more detail on the following slides. Alternatives to standard full color printing enable reusable rewrite cards for visitor management as an example, or half panel ribbons for simply putting a photo and name on a pre-printed card.
Swift ID is very easy to get started with. It can be accessed through USB or Ethernet without having to install any separate badging application on the PC. Swift ID is embedded in the printer and can be seen using any web browser. NO internet connection is required, we just use the web browser to see Swift ID by typing in the appropriate IP address of the printer. Within Swift ID we are able to design a template using several options listed in the slide. We even have the ability to store ONE designed template within the printer, or many on the PC side. The benefit to storing a template within the printer is it creates a mobile badging solution. Multiple PCs on the same network the printer is on can access the same template without installing anything on the PC side, or the printer and template can be moved to a different location and used by another PC without installing anything on the new PC. When it comes time to print, user specific data such as an employee name or photo can be entered which gives the user the ability to print multiple badges per session.
Swift ID is the perfect solution for small businesses looking for an out-of-box, cost effective badging solution to manage employee badges or even visitor cards. On the Asure ID roadmap is the ability to import a template designed in Swift ID. This will give an end user with growing needs in database management, technology card encoding or general card template design flexibility a path to a more sophisticated card personalization application.
Swift ID gives an end user the ability to design and print a basic badge. If the user needs to manage a database of employees, encode a card in any way, or have more flexibility in template design and photo capture, the end user should still purchase Asure ID.
Different than some of our past DTC products, when the Ethernet option is ordered, the end user will get USB and Ethernet connectivity.
The general feedback is the DTC1000 is very intuitive.
Let’s take a closer look at the DTC4000…
SmartScreen graphical display and color changing status buttons – there are plenty of LCDs in this industry, but not graphical displays like this where we have the ability through picture to tell an end user the state of the printer. For example, if the printer is out of cards, the graphical display will show a picture of the printer with the input card hopper blinking to indicate the area of interest. At the same time, the color changing status buttons will change from blue to red enabling an end user to see the issue from a distance. Flexible footprint – the DTC4000 is able to change in footprint to accommodate just about every desktop space. Traditional FARGO configuration is cards in from the right and out from the left. We now have the ability to change the configuration of the printer such that the cards feed in and eject from the same side, narrowing the overall width of the printer. The graphical display is also field-adjustable to be on the same side as the card input/output. Modularity – no other manufacturer has the ability to offer future proof products like HID as we have the broadest offering of easy to install field-upgrade modules. Functionality such as dual-sided printing, technology card encoding and Ethernet connectivity are field-upgradeable. The DTC4000 introduces the ability through FARGO Workbench to password protect the printer from printing any jobs. In addition, the DTC4000, with the use of a YMCFKO ribbon, can generate a UV/fluorescing image for a cost effective and dynamic card security element.
Showing the modularity of the DTC4000…
All options for the DTC4000 are field-upgradeable. If the same-side input/output configuration is ordered as such from HID, it is free of charge. If it is field-upgraded, it is $200 MSRP A first in its class, and unique to the industry, the DTC4000 has the option to field upgrade to a dual-input card hopper. This gives an end user the ability to manage two different card types simultaneously, or increase the card capacity of one type. For management of two types, a good example of this would be a health club application, where two different pre-printed membership card types are managed within the printer at once. Different than some of our past DTC products, when the Ethernet option is ordered, the end user will get USB and Ethernet connectivity.
The general feedback is the DTC4000 is a functional and great looking design.
The volume capable DTC4500…
The DTC4500 supports higher volume jobs with its capability to hold higher image count ribbons and cards for less down time. Standard on the DTC4500 is the unique to the industry dual-input card hopper. This gives an end user the ability to manage two different card types simultaneously, or increase the card capacity of one type. For management of two types, a good example of this would be a health club application, where two different pre-printed membership card types are managed within the printer at once. High image count half panel ribbons give the end user a cost effective way to personalize pre-printed cards with a photo and barcode as an example. Also standard on the DTC4500 is USB and Ethernet connectivity making this the ideal solution for networked card printing applications. Modularity – no other manufacturer has the ability to offer future proof products like HID as we have the broadest offering of easy to install field-upgrade modules. Functionality such as dual-sided printing, technology card encoding, lamination and Ethernet connectivity are field-upgradeable. The DTC4500 has the ability through FARGO Workbench to password protect the printer from printing any jobs. In addition, the DTC4500, with the use of a YMCFKO ribbon, can generate a UV/fluorescing image for a cost effective and dynamic card security element. The DTC4500 is the only DTC in this lineup that has the capability to laminate cards for increased card security and durability.
Showing the modularity of the DTC4500… Lamination is offered as single-sided or dual-sided simultaneous.
$6,699 above is an example of how dual-sided printing is included in the price of a SS printer with DS lamination ($3,199 + $3,500 MSRP) Lamination is offered as single-sided or dual-sided simultaneous.
The general feedback is the DTC4500 is a functional and great looking design – generating some interesting feedback as seen on the slide…
Now that we’ve seen each product in more detail, let’s go back and review how these products fit within the new FARGO DTC product family…
