dreamlike "archaic smile".

(2) Classical period (500 – 323 BC)
• This period saw the Greco-
Persian Wars and the Rise of
Macedon
• Alexander the Great was the
driving force behind the rise.
• Major philosophers like
Socrates, Aristotle & Plato
belong to this era.

(3) Hellenistic period (323–146 BC)
• This period begins with the death of
Alexander and ends with the Roman
conquest.

over the Corinthians at the Battle of
Corinth in 146 BC and the
establishment of Byzantium by
Constantine as the capital of the
Roman Empire in AD 330.
