Family driven businesses form the core of Indian economy

It is estimated that 95 per cent of the registered firms are family businesses

Worldwide family businesses contribute to more than 65 percent of the GDP
Ì It has been observed that only 40 per cent of the
                                          family driven businesses survive the first generation
                                          and less than 5 per cent of the family businesses
                                          go beyond fourth generation. Inter-generational
                                          conflicts, lack of professionalism in the business, not
                                          being able to balance the demands of the family and
                                          business are at the heart of the reasons for the high
                                          mortality rate of family businesses. It thus makes
                                          sense for the businesses to imbibe professional
                                          culture and induce professional skills among its key
                                          member s while preserving the inherent strengths of
                                          a family driven business.
