Challenges
• One of the world’s largest and most diverse providers of
technical professional and construction services, were
consultants to the project.
• Treatability of the complex wastewater that was expected to
be generated out of this new unit was a challenge.
• The energy cost involved in treating the wastewater was a
prime concern.

A.T.E.’s approach
• To address the treatment complexity and energy
requirements, an anaerobic and aerobic combination was
selected after a series of discussions with the customer and
the consultant.
• This is considered a first-of-its-kind solution for
pharmaceutical wastewater treatment.

A.T.E’s solution
• A 250 m3/day wastewater treatment plant based on
anaerobic-aerobic combination was successfully designed,
installed and commissioned by A.T.E.

Result
• The unique solution resulted in over 40% consistent COD
reduction in the anaerobic stage.
• Biodegradability of the wastewater also improved with anaerobic
treatment.
• There was a substantial reduction in the power consumption of the
aerobic stage.
• An overall COD reduction of 93% from feed COD of 13000 ppm
was achieved.
