3. VENTURE OF INDIAN TYCOON
He completed his Matriculation in 1949 at Bhandur kanji High
School, Junagarh.
On the request of his Father he had to move to Aden, Yemen to
support his family in 1949.
Started worked with A. Besse & Co. for a salary of Rs.300.
Dhirubhai first sent to the commodities trading section & later he
was promoted to manage the company's oil-filling station at the
port of Aden.
It was here that he dreamed of setting up and owning a refinery.

He returned to India in 1957 after
a stint with A. Besse & Co. Aden.
He started yarn and spices trading
business from a small 500 sq.ft
Office in Masjid Bunder Mumbai
in partnership with Champaklal
Damani, his second cousin, who
used was to import polyester yarn
and export spices.

In 1965, Champaklal Damani and
Dhirubhai Ambani ended their
partnership and Dhirubhai decided
to continue their polyester
business.
In 1966, he renamed the company
as Reliance Textiles Industries Pvt.
Limited and established a synthetic
fabric mill at Naroda near
Ahmadabad in same year.
6. BUSINESS MILESTONES
In 1975 World Bank recognize
Reliance Textiles as best composite
textile in India.
In 1977 Reliance Textiles went to
public and raised equity capital from
ten of thousands of investors many of
them located in small town.
He started textiles brand name Vimal
and inaugurated the retail outlet of
100 franchises.

In 1985, he renamed the
company from Reliance
Textiles Industries Pvt.
Limited to Reliance Industries
Limited.
In 1986, he suffered a stroke,
which had paralyzed his right
hand and he handed over the
Reliance to his son Mukesh
and Anil.
9. BUSINESS MILESTONES
In 1991 he commissioned Hazira
Petrochemical Plant in Surat district
of Gujrat. At the time, Reliance
Hazira represented the single largest
investment made by a private sector
group in India at a single location.
In 1996 Reliance Industries became
Indians 1st private sector company to
be rated by International Credit
Rating Agencies.
10. ACCLAIM OF INDIAN TYCOON
In 1998, a book written by Hamish McDonlad.
"The Polyester Prince" an unauthorized
biography of Dhirubhai Ambani which is
outlining of all his political and business
conquest.
A Hindi Film “Guru” Based on Dhirubhai
Ambani life released on January12,2007.
11. DHIRUBHAI AMBANI
FOUNDATION
Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of
Information and Communication
Technology established in 2001 by
The Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation
at Gandhinagar in Gujrat.
The DAF has joined the
management of Sir Hurkisondas
Nurottumdas Hospital and Research
Centre (HNH&RC). Later DAF
converted this into hospital
12. Dhirubhai was admitted to the Breach
Candy Hospital in Mumbai on June 24,
2002 after he suffered a major stroke.
This was his second stroke. He was in a
state of coma for more than a week. He
died on July 6, 2002.
