3. Introduction
Over 2000 varieties of mushrooms are Identified all
around the world, but only some Specified types of
it are safe to eat.
Mushroom is an essential or the main ingredient In a
variety of dishes in multiple cuisines.
Let’s look at the types of mushrooms available in
India.
5. Button Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus)
Button mushroom is one of the most
commonly available varieties of
mushrooms.
In, button mushrooms are grown
seasonally and in environment
controlled cropping houses.
White button mushroom requires 20-28
degree C for vegetative growth(spawn
run) and 12-28 degree C for
reproductive growth.
Besides it requires relative humidity of
80-90% and enough ventilation during
cropping.
6. They are very low in calories.
They offer essential protein and amino acids,
sufficient levels of minerals, vitamins, and fibre.
Button mushrooms carry vitamin D in the form of
ergocalciferol.
Vitamin D is an essential fat-soluble vitamin required
for bone growth and calcium metabolism.
7. Straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacoa)
Also famous as “Chinese Mushroom”
, these are as Popular in India as
the button mushrooms.
They have good aroma, flavour, and
are rich in Various nutrients and
protein.
Usually, an edible in tropics and
subtropics, in India, their
cultivation generally takes place in
States of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar
Pradesh, Andra Pradesh,
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu,
Chattishgarh etc.
8. Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus)
• One of the popular types of
mushroom in India, people call it
‘dhingri’ in hindi.
• This variety can easily grow in
tropical and temperate regions.
Shaped like a fan and dusty colour,
they look a lot like oysters, just
like their names.
Their cultivation in Indian usually
takes place In the states of Madhya
Pradesh, West Bengal, Orissa,
Karnataka, Maharashtra, etc.
9. Milky mushrooms (Calocybe indica)
Milky mushroom are also known
‘summer mushroom’.
It is a fantastic variety that grows
in states like Karnataka, Tamil
Nadu, Kerala, Andra Pradesh, and
Odisha.
They are also less demanding and
offer a high yield.
These mushrooms are looks
attractive with bright white colour
and have a good shelf life as well.
10. The sturdy all-white mushrooms appear in Summer
After rainfall in fields and on road verges.
It is also said to have antibiotic, anti-tumour, and
Anti-cancer properties.
Help in regulating Diabetes, lowering bad
cholesterol levels, and to have Strong antioxidants
properties.
11. Cremini mushroom (Agaricus bisporus)
These mushrooms belong to the
same species as that of button
mushrooms.
They just differ slightly due to the
development of a coffee-coloured
skinny layer on the cap and thus
have dark tan patches on top.
These mushrooms are, however,
more flavourful in taste and have a
firmer texture than Button
mushrooms.
