Archaea exhibit a variety of metabolic reactions and can use many energy sources. They are classified by their energy and carbon sources, with some obtaining energy from inorganic compounds like sulfur or ammonia. Archaea reproduce asexually through binary fission or fragmentation and do not undergo meiosis. Their cell division is controlled by a cell cycle where the chromosome replicates before the cell divides. Unlike bacteria and eukaryotes, archaea do not form spores.
