One of the immediately
noticeable features of the new
course site design is the
simplified and graphical interface
that now greets students and
instructors.

Student
Students are presented with
multiple sets of graphically
enhanced menus, each dividing
the various course site functions
and commands into groupings
that mirror their graphical stand-
in.
5. Enhanced Interface:
Help Features
In addition to having graphical
enhancements, the interface
now has help features to guide
users in creating content for the
site.
6. Drafting Integration
The new course sites integrate
drafting as part of their structure,
allowing students to nurse a
draft from early writing to final
product all while keeping track
of changes and getting peer
review.
7. Draft Integration
Using the Workflow menu,
students are able to set the
status of a given draft and
update that status to reflect
changes as they go along.

Students will be able to track all
of their current drafts, viewing
them by Workflow status and by
the Assignment they are
associated with.

Once a student has marked an
item as up for peer review, it
shows up under the Peer Review
Interface for other students to
see and elect to review.

Once the draft has been
submitted, it will show up on the
student’s Gradetracker Interface,
as well as on the grading
interface used by the instructor.
11. Grading Simplification
The new course sites make use
of a simplified grading system,
allow instructors to grade
student content on the same
page the content is presented,
eliminating much of the tedium
of past semesters grading.

Once a grade is entered,
students are immediately able to
see the results in their
Gradetracker Interface, or on
their actual draft itself with the
Gradetracker Block.
15. Calendar System
Part of the new course site
design is a robust calendar
system that allows students and
instructors to track assignments,
weekly itineraries, and set up
meetings.

Itinerary
As part of the new Instructor
Interface, course site instructors
can create weekly calendar
itinerary items that will show up
on a weekly basis on the Course
Calendar.

Meetings
In addition to itineraries,
instructors can set up meetings
times for students to come and
conference. These meetings
show up on the Course
Calendar, where students can
then select a meeting and
comment when they will attend.

Graphical
Enhancements
The new calendar system makes
use of a color-based legend
system to differentiate between
event types, and also displays
events that span multiple days
graphically on the calendar
page.
19. Attendance System:
Instructor Tools
As a continuation of the current
course site technology, the new
course sites will continue to offer
the Attendance Interface to
taking role in classes.

Student Tools
Additionally, as another carry-
over from the current
technology, students are able to
submit absence reports directly
to instructors using the Absence
Interface.
21. Badge Achievements:
Following in the footsteps of the
current technology, the new
sites will offer an achievement
system with integrated functions
for students to apply for an earn
pedagogically-centered writing
achievements.
22. Badge Achievements:
Socially Signified
Mirroring the current system,
users will be able to see
achievement badges earned by
their classmates on the
Members Interface. Each badge
is linked to its explanation page.
24. File System:
Podcasting Support
For the first time, course sites
will support the submission and
review of podcast content, using
the updated File System
Interface.
