When one does not carry out an action oneself
but rather has the action done by someone else,
this is expressed by a causative construction.
We use causative have when arranging someone
to do something for us.
In English it is the verb "to have" that introduces
the causative.

We can use have in a passive structure.
Claire had the room decorated.
Means She arranged for a decorator to do it for
her as a professional service.
We must have another key made. OR We must get
another key made.
The sentences have the same meaning, but get is
more informal than have.

When one wishes to designate the agent of
the action (the person who has carried out
the described action), there are two

Agent: as a direct object noun or pronoun)
Object: also in the form of a direct object noun or
pronoun.
The professor had his students write an essay.
I made him do it.

We had the television repaired only last year,

Our neighbours are having a new garage built.

We're getting the carpet cleaned.

We didn't get new windows put in because it was too
expensive.
