IPv6 deployment is progressing globally with the world average at around 32% capable. In Asia, deployment is highest in South Asia led by India, with over 86% of its internet traffic now IPv6 capable. Other Asian countries like Vietnam and Thailand also show significant deployment levels across their major internet service providers. While progress has been steady, IPv6 uptake remains uneven worldwide and more can still be done to advance the transition.

China has moved at scale (slowly)
âą Until mid-late 2018 China did not show any real adoption
âą Since mid 2018 we see signs across all the major ISPs of
IPv6 adoption
â There are possibilities the mechanisms used by APNIC, Akamai and
Google do not entirely reflect adoption levels inside China, some
ISPs report significantly higher deployment at scale
âą China has good targets in state planning
â Trend is upward but pace is low

Taiwan continues to grow at scale
âą An initial surge in 2019 has continued at slower pace
âą Some significant carriers still donât show high deployment
âą Some markets may be reaching saturation until the next
significant re-capitalization replaces IPv4 only equipment
(CPE?)
37. 37
37
Observations
âą There has been significant progress since 2018 which appears
to be continuing
âą APNIC region is dominant in IPv6 deployment at scale by
population and % capability
â Rising from 52% in 2018 to 66% in 2022
â Higher economy count, deeper participation per economy
âą The deployment is not equally spread into all economies
â The variances continue to be very confusing: its not about being a
developed, or developing economy, or size, or amount of ASN diversity
â It may be more about cost of capital and willingness to invest
âą Some significant telcos are not deploying at all
