Head 1: Basic info about Varna.
Varna, called The Sea Capital of Bulgaria, is the third largest city in Bulgaria and the largest on
the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Varna is situated on the crossroads between Western Europe and the
Middle East and you can easily reach the town by sea, by air or surface transport. Varna is a major
tourist destination, business and university center. There are 5 big universities and the city is full with
students. An interesting fact about Varna is that the city’s population doubles during summer.
The economy is service-based, with 61% of net revenue generated in trade and tourism, 16% in
manufacturing, 14% in transportation and communications, 6% in construction and 13% in Financial
services.
Being a cultural center, Varna has developed one of the largest and richest galleries in Bulgaria:
the Gallery of Fine Arts. Varna is a city with famous drama and puppet theatre, opera and philharmonic
orchestra. There are also a lot of galleries, museums, festivals, international events, concerts, pubs,
bars and coffees. The dolphinarium, the aquarium, the Nature museum and the Zoo make the list of
sea attractions in Varna more complete. The oldest golden treasure in the world was discovered
in Varna Necropolis, consisting of coins, weapons and jewelry and it is over 6,000 years old.
If you are interested in sports in Varna you can find football, basketball, golf, kart racing, horse
riding, tennis, volleyball, ice-skating, water sports, cricket, bowling and others.
The climate in the area and its other natural conditions make Varna an ideal place for investors
with business interests in the Balkan region.

1) Cathedrals of St. St. Peter’s & Paul’s in Brno and the Assumption of the Virgin in Varna;
2) Observatory of Brno and Varna’s observatory “NikolayKopernik” – Who is he? He is the per-
son who defined and modeled the heliocentric system;
3) Lake of Brno and Varna’s lake – Here is one of the biggest bridges in the Balkans – Asparu-
hov bridge;
4) UNESCO list of world heritage sites – Brno has Villa Tugendhat and Varna has the natural
phenomenon called “PobitiKamani”, also known as “The Stone forest”. It is situated on an
area of 7 square km;
5) Zoo parks – in Brno is bigger and better;
6) Undergrounds – In Brno there are 3, in Varna there is a Roman underground under the
Roman baths, the biggest ancient baths in the Balkans & the 2nd scale in Europe;
7) Airport is an important part of both cities;
8) Night life in both cities has a reputation of being wild, but in Varna it’s on a higher position.
Head 3: Contradictions between Varna and Brno.
1) Black sea and unique Golden Sands (as sands and as a Resort) in Varna ;)
2) Castles in Brno are missed in Varna, but 8 km north from the city there is Evxinograd Royal
Palace (means palace on the Black Sea);
3) The dolphinariumin Varna is a unique attraction facility in Bulgaria and the Balkans. It allows
a magnificent view to the sea. Dolphins and their trainers perform the remarkable Dolphin
show, conducted in 4 languages at a time;
4) Public transport systemin Varna is not so well developed as in Brno and also movement of
invalids is harder;
Head 4: Important Persons.
1) Philip Kirkorovis a Russian-Bulgarian singer/producer, who was born and raised in Varna.
Kirkorov was one of Russia's most popular performers in the 1990s;
2) Hans-Martin and Anton Novak are czech architects who built the remarkable Sea Garden in
Varna. Anton Novak also built the magnificent gardens of the Evxinograd Royal Palace;
3) YordanYovchev is the most succesful gymnast in Bulgaria, he is training in Varna and he
won 4 olympics medals – 1 silver and 3 bronzes;
4) Boris Georgiev is a bulgarian artist, who loved so much his city that he signed his drawings
with “Boris Georgiev di Varna” and the City Art Gallery brings his name. Distinctive fact is
that his sister died young, but he painted her on canvases as an airy shadow.
