Holi is a Hindu festival celebrated in India that is known by many names such as Holi, Vasanta Mahotsava, and Kamotsva. It symbolizes the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. On the night before Holi, people gather to light bonfires to commemorate the burning of the demoness Holika, who was immune to fire but was tricked into entering a fire with the young god Prahlad and burned. The next day is a celebration marked by people throwing colored powders and water at each other in joyous festivities, wearing and playing with vibrant colors as a way to welcome the spring season.
