The development of better library information systems will always remain the core business of any serious library organization, but a shift took place towards (freely) available web-based tools for creating and managing the information workflow. End-users are not only using these heavily, but are also creating their own preferred tools. Today's students are incorporating Web 2.0 skills in daily life, in their social and learning environments. Tomorrow's academic staff will expect to be able to use their preferred tools and resources within their work environment. Today's ánd tomorrow's libraries should support students and staff in the learning and research process by integrating their services and resources into our patrons' environments. This practical workshop will demonstrate the use of Web 2.0 technology to empower users and librarians. During a hands-on session, participants will work with these tools. They will develop tailor-made services via personal start page software like Netvibes, making use of RSS-feeds, Widgets and Browser extensions. We will explore the use of Netvibes and Web 2.0 tools in library staff and/or library user education/instruction. We will focus on library services which can be created almost on-the-fly with low costs and high impact. The growing use of social networks justifies the development of a library presence within these networks to reach out to our users. The goal of the national repository is to ensure the availability of electronic information resources of libraries, organization, NGO’s, department etc. at a common platform now and in the future. The project focuses on common services, operational guidelines, modules, government policies and programs related to child health. The project aims at creating a common public interface by using open source software CMS Drupal for the development of the digital repository. This paper highlights the functions, objectives and development of the digital repository. The paper covers the digital repository of the National child health Resource Centre (NCHRC).

India faces an enormous challenge in the area of child survival. The Government and different non-government organizations have undertaken various initiatives to improve the status of Child Health in the country and this has generated an abundant resource of valuable information. However this information lies scattered and is often inaccessible to the public and other stakeholders. Efficient management of ‘health information’ is imperative for informed decision making and for attaining effective programmatic outcomes. Digital repositories have nowadays become the preferred source of information management. This paper describes the development of a digital repository of information on child health developed by the National Child Health Resource Centre at the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare, Delhi, using the open source content management system Drupal. This repository has been developed as a comprehensive source of information on child health and related maternal health.

This has provided a broad overview of semantic Web mining. We examined the semantic Web concepts and described the impact of Web mining. We started with a discussion of semantic Web mining concepts and discussed a concept of operation. Then we discussed mining XML and RDF documents as well as the semantic interoperability of these documents. We also discussed the use of agents in semantic Web mining and described the notion of incorporating mining into the semantic Web when the semantic Web is considered to be a heterogeneous database manager. Finally, we discussed the evolution of the semantic Web and also examined the use of Web mining in E-commerce.

Syngulon’s technology expands the capacity for selection of microorganisms. The ability to select individual microbes with a behavior of interest is essential, whether for simple cloning at the bench, or for industry-scale production. Synthetic biology uses the concept of “bioengineering” to improve or modify existing genetic systems to create microbes with desired behaviors, and Syngulon uses this approach to develop its selection technologies. This selection technology is based on bacteriocins, ribosomally-produced peptides naturally made by most bacteria to kill competitive microbial species. These bacteriocins can have a limited or wide target range against other microbial species. This technology offers advantageous over antibiotic selection for several reasons: it avoids the use of antibiotics in the first place, helping to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistant microbes. The technology also increases product yield; as bacteriocins are generally smaller peptides, they do not impose a heavy metabolic burden on the producing cell. They can have a wide target specificity, helping to avoid genetic drift. Finally, our system is 100% plasmid-based (e.g. without chromosomal mutations), making it applicable for use in any E. coli strains.
