This document provides guidance to students on assignments for an aeronautical and industrial technology course. It outlines tips for completing individual and group assignments, including using the syllabus as a guide, addressing all required elements, properly formatting papers, and managing group work. Guidance is provided on the expectations and components for each of the 6 weekly assignments, which cumulatively build towards a final Risk Management Plan. Students are advised to thoroughly research topics, apply risk management frameworks, and demonstrate graduate-level writing and analysis.

PM584 ASSIGNMENT ADDENDUM
After teaching this course for quite some time I have found that
students find it challenging to translate the information in the
syllabus to a written document that displays content inclusive of
all key components.
I created this document as an addendum, to support you during
the preparation for written (individual and team) assignments,
to better help you understand what I look for as an instructor.
8. Tips
· Use the syllabus as your first point of reference. Make sure
you have read it before you say you have questions regarding an
assignment.
· Use the key elements or bullet points for each assignment as
an outline in your paper. If it is listed, it should be covered.
· Begin work early so that you have time to plan, research and
prepare for your assignment. I may not be available the day
before your paper is due to answer questions.
· When writing team assignments, use the strengths of team
members to help you be successful. Get a head start on
conversations and assigning work. Select a leader for the entire
class duration or for each week to ensure someone “Project
Manages” the process.
· I do not take off points for too little or too many words, but I
will deduct points if your paper does not contain all expected
content.
· Team assignments should have “one voice” and should not be
written as if 5-6 individuals wrote the assignments. If there are
grammatical errors in your teammate’s section, but not in a
section you wrote, the assignment still loses points. A
suggestion would be to have a selected individual proof the
entire assignment before submittal.
· This is progressive works. All assignments will be beneficial
and added in some way to your final assignment due in Week 6.
Value what you write.
· Please make sure your paper is written on a graduate level and
that it is properly proofread and formatted using APA
9. guidelines, prior to submittal.
Pointers to remember or consider when completing each
assignment
Week One: Individual Project Baseline
Assignment
Pointers
Project Baseline
Please have your scenario approved prior to starting your week
one assignment. Ensure it is a project you understand and are in
a position to research details regarding the project.
Please include the Risk Framework – How do you plan to
manage your risks, identify your risks, etc.?
Make sure your assignment mentions risk management and does
not just focus on the project details.
The project may be documented through research or a personal
experience.
The items listed in the “write” portion of the assignment are
expected in the paper.
Please remember to cover all bullet points. Many students skip
the fault and event tree analysis.
Do not forget your 15-20 if/then statements
Week Two: Learning Team Qualitative Risk Assessment
Assignment
Pointers
Qualitative Risk Assessment
Use your resources
This is one paper with individual and team components.
There are two sections to this assignment:
· Section One: to be completed by each individual covering
10. qualitative tools as it relates to projects selected in Week One.
· Section Two: to be completed by everyone as a collaboration
to sum up what was discussed in Section One.
Please note you do not have to select a project scenario for the
team assignment, only for the individual project.
Please cover all points in the analysis and narrative sections.
Week Three: Individual Quantitative Risk Assessment
Assignment
Pointers
Quantitative Risk Assessment
Use your resources.
When writing your background revision, remember to include
important information. Do not copy and paste your entire Week
1 assignment.
Remember this paper covers both a qualitative and quantitative
assessment on your 15-20 risks. Remember the tools you
researched in Week 2.
Add to your risk framework, to now show how you will conduct
your qualitative and quantitative assessment.
You can now begin building your risk register.
Always explain your diagrams.
Week Four: Individual Risk Management Planning
Assignment
Pointers
Risk Management Planning
Remember that risk response and risk strategy are two separate
activities.
Restate your if/then statements
Add your risk strategies and responses to your risk register
created in Week 3.
Use a risk action plan template or make sure you understand all
components in a RAP if you create your own.
11. Always explain your diagrams.
Week Five: Learning Team Risk Reporting
Assignment
Pointers
Risk Reporting
Use your resources
This is one paper with individual and team components.
There are two sections to this assignment:
· Section One: to be completed by each individual covering risk
monitoring and risk reporting practices as it relates to projects
selected in Week One.
· Section Two: to be completed by everyone as a collaboration
to sum up what was discussed in Section One.
Each person is to provide one monitoring and one reporting
tool.
Do not forget to cover the analysis piece.
Remember to cover lessons learned as it relates to the practice
and not the project.
Week Six: Risk Management Plan
Assignment
12. Pointers
Risk Management Plan
Revise your background to include pertinent information.
Include information from all assignments.
Do not forget the real world scenarios.
Do not forget the viability statement.
Remember you are presenting this to your sponsor “me” as a
presentation to have your risk plan approved and funded.
