US Department of Education: SEC. 1001. STATEMENT OF Title 1
PURPOSE
The purpose of Title 1 is to ensure that all
children have a fair, equal, and significant
opportunity to obtain a high-quality education
and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on
challenging State academic achievement
standards and state academic assessments.
Schools are designated as “Title 1” based on documented financial need.
3. Title 1 at FOMS

Technology
Specialized Instructional Support
Smaller Class Sizes
Classroom Resources
4. FOMS Curriculum
Classroom instruction at Four Oaks Middle School is
based on the North Carolina Essential Standards as
outlined by the North Carolina Department of Public
Instruction.
Additional classroom resources, such as computers and
Smart Boards, are utilized in the implementation of the
North Carolina Essential Standards through Title 1
funds.
5. Academic Assessments
Student understanding is monitored through a
variety of methods that include both formal and
informal assessments. These assessments are
the catalyst that drive individualized instruction.
North Carolina Standardized Tests are given near the completion of the
school year while more frequent Quarterly Assessments provide a
framework for adjusting instructional practices throughout the year.
Traditional classroom tests and quizzes are administered periodically
throughout the school year.
Teachers maximize classroom instruction by informally assessing student
understanding and achievement daily.
6. Due to the development and
implementation of the North Carolina
Essential Standards and the new
testing model, Four Oaks Middle

Testing Results to share at this time.
