particular for its educational properties. Dance was
essential for developing personality as well as

move counter-clockwise. Each dancer is linked by a
handkerchief or by holding hands, wrists or shoulders.

Greece has 6
mainland regions:
Macedonia, Epirus,
Thrace, Thessaly,
Central Greece and
Peloponnesus. In
addition, the islands
fall into 3 main
groups: the Ionian
Islands, the Aegean
Islands and the
Dodecanese Islands.
The largest of all the
Greek islands is 15
Crete.

MACEDONIA is very mountainous with small valleys.
Macedonia has an especially rich folk culture.
The variety is partly due to its geographical position where it
borders with the Balkans

Macedonian dances can range from being
fast and light-hearted to heroic and slow
in tempo.
Instrumentation includes gaida, daouli,
klarino, and karamouza.
