This is a presentation made by John James at the Doncaster Diamonds Group of BNI. John talked about what his company provides in the solar power/renewables sector
3. Solar Photovoltaic (PV)
Installation of PV systems to Our Services
convert sunlight into
electricity
This electricity can be used
on site or exported back to
the grid system
Solar Thermal
Installation of Solar
collectors to convert the
radiant heat from the sun to
hot water for Space and
Water heating
Heat Pumps
Heat pumps are used to
convert latent heat stored in
the ground, water or air to
high temperature water for
space and water heating
4. Energy Efficient
Lighting Our Services
Installation Lighting schemes
which are designed to reduce
running costs, reduce
maintenance costs and reduce
heat gain in buildings
Improved energy
control
Installation of control systems
to provide more effective use of
the energy provision
Heat Recovery
Ventilation
Changing the air in buildings is
a major heat loss factor
By installing systems which
preheat the replacement air
using the exhaust is a great way
of making savings.
5. The boring bits you can ignore
PV Panels
PV Cells convert sunlight into
electricity The do this by
absorbing the photons in
sunlight which causes electrons
to flow in the semiconductor
which produces current flow.
PV Panels are made up of a
number of these cells joined
together like the cells of a
battery.
They have normally between
60 and 72 cells and produce
around 36Vdc.
6. The boring bits you can ignore
Solar Thermal
Solar Thermal Systems
collect the radiant heat in
sunlight and transfer this
energy to the glycol mixture
used in the primary transfer
circuit and then on to the
Hot water.
The main plus of Solar
Thermal is that once
installed it produces hot
water for no more than the
cost of running a small
circulation pump (<£50 p.a.)
7. The boring bits you can ignore
Heat Pumps
Heat pumps extract
latent heat stored within
the air, the ground and
natural bodies of water
and convert the relatively
small changes in
temperature to useful
heat for Space and Water
heating
They use the standard
compression and
evaporation cycle found
in our fridges and
freezers
8. The important bits
Solar PV
A 4kWp PV system will
generate around 3300kWh
of electricity in one year
The government will pay
you 21p per kWh for 25
years
You will use around 50% of
what you generate saving
1650kWh @ 12p
Your energy provider will
pay you 3p for each kWh
(or 5p if you go with UW)
11. The important bits
Solar Thermal
A 2.5m2 (two panel) Solar
Thermal Array will
generate around 55% of
the Hot Water requirement
for a normal three bed
semi (2 adults 2 kids)
It has almost zero running
cost and minimal
maintenance requirement
Other than a dual coil
cylinder or thermal store it
requires no major changes
to the existing system

How Effective are Solar Panels?
13. The important bits
Heat pumps
Heat pumps are highly
efficient with efficiencies
of up to 400%
They can produce water
for both Space and Water
Heating
They can be retrofitted to
existing systems with only
minor changes to existing
They are suitable for both
domestic and commercial
applications
16. Referrals
Commercial and Residential Property Owners
who are looking to reduce fuel costs
Financial Planners who are looking to
recommend investment opportunities to their
clients
Facilities managers who are tasked with
infrastructure development and energy savings
Individuals or companies who are interested in
the benefits of renewable technologies
