Since being coined by Sean Ellis in 2010, the term “growth hacking”
has generated a ton of buzz. This, despite many people not being
able to define what exactly a growth hacker is. For those unsure,
think of a growth hacker as a kind of marketer who is laser focused
on growth. Everything they do is done with the intention of driving
company growth. It’s a start-up mentality that has begun to reshape
how traditional marketers work. One thing growth hacking is not:
a shortcut to success. But it is an effective avenue for building a
business, when done well. With that in mind, this presentation covers
five ways you can hack your own company’s growth.

BUILD YOUR EMAIL LIST
While growth hacking seems to lend itself to social media, you’ll actually
want to focus more on your email list. Why? Well, email has three times
the purchase potential of social media. Despite its age, it remains one of
the best channels for capturing attention and closing sales. If you want
to grow your business, you need to grow your email list.

A/B TEST EVERYTHING
Yes, everything. Growth hacking is reliant on having as much useful
data as you possibly can. The only way to get all of those data points
is through testing. Whether it is CTAs on your website, messaging or
images on social, from lines or subjects on your emails, it’s all testable.
So start testing all of it today, capturing the results, and reapplying them
back into your efforts, gradually working toward full optimization.

PROVIDE POLISHED CONTENT
One of the best ways to build a loyal community of customers is
to serve as a thought leader. Whether it’s written or in video form,
you need to constantly churn out content that is high level and
positions your brand as a leader. And remember: exclusivity is key.
Make sure that the content you’re sharing is valuable and only
accessible to those already in your customer universe. Using a
lead gen form to gate the content could be an effective strategy
for building that email list.

FOCUS ON CUSTOMER SERVICE
When you’re so focused on growth, it can be easy to forget about
retention. But remember that it is much easier and cheaper to
retain an existing customer than to land a new one. So while adding
new customers will be crucial, don’t forget the sale doesn’t end
when money is exchanged and always go above and beyond for
your customers. It will ensure they stick around and perhaps will
even inspire them to tell others about your brand. Which brings us
to our final point…

ENCOURAGE SHARING
When it comes to growth, word-of-mouth marketing is your most
powerful ally. Encourage your customers to write online reviews,
tell their friends about their experiences, and come back for more.
You may even want to incentivize sharing by offering them a
special offer, like a free add-on for referring a friend.
