T.E. Lawrence was a British intelligence officer sent in 1915 to work with Arab nationalist groups fighting against the Ottoman Empire. Lawrence befriended Arab leader Feisal and helped lead attacks on the strategic Hejaz railway supplying Turkish forces. In 1917, Lawrence led Arab forces capturing Damascus ahead of the British army. After the war, Lawrence advocated unsuccessfully for Arab independence at the Paris Peace Conference. He later wrote the acclaimed book "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" about his experiences and served anonymously in the Royal Air Force. Lawrence died in 1935 from injuries in a motorcycle accident.
