Violence against children is a phenomenon happening worldwide, in forms of physical,
psychological violence. Children are deprived of care, basic social services, health care and
education, child abuse, neglect, exploitation, forced to beg, trafficked. Children are still one of the
social groups at risk, facing many problems that remain unresolved. Although the consequences may

Violence and the justification of it has been an issue for as long as the world has been in existence.
There are many conflicting opinions on the subject, many in favor and many opposing the idea. I
am personally split on the issue; I believe that in some cases, violence can be justified; however, I

In my opinion, the only instance in which violence can be justified is self–defense. I believe that if

because they're afraid of the consequences, rather than understanding why they shouldn't do it again.
It gives the wrong impression on the child and teaches them that violence is okay if you're trying to
teach someone a lesson, so they carry this over into their lives when they get older, and the chain of
violence is never broken.
War, in general, I believe, is ineffective. I think that it totally uses the wrong reasons for countries to
agree to compromise. It's amazing that before war, countries are totally against one another, yet after

On October 24 2000, a news article headline read, "Gang wars 6 Dead". This event had taken place
in Etobicoke, and the news article contained sentences like "Six victims in six months" and
"calculated executions". It also contained terms like "Bloods" and "Crips". These terms and
sentences have officially crossed the border and have become all too familiar in Canadian cities.
In order to cut back this outlaw behaviour, we need to educate our youth about the ill effects of
gangs, drugs, guns, and should try to persuade them to instead make friends with those who accept
you for who you are and use all their time in doing something positive and proactive. As a result of
reducing and preventing gang violence, many cities have created special task forces and given
schools their own police officers.
Sexual violence is another form of violence that has plagued our cities. This crime involves violence
that is specifically sexual in nature, to which the victim does not give consent. According to 2005

out of 10 victims who reported being sexually violated were under 17. These numbers are alarming

As I started off the semester, I had many assumptions about the violence women face. I have taken
a few women's studies courses before, but we did not discuss the violence part in detail. This class
has made me realize that people are affected by violence everywhere. I realized that violence is not
as simple as I thought, and there are many forms of violence, such as emotional, psychological,
physical, and sexual. As an advocate for women, I thought I could help a tremendous amount of
victims, however this class made me understand that I cannot help every woman who has

them with a book, or as big as a man strapping down his wife to a chair and building a wall so she
