WHAT IS GREEN GYM ?
SANSUN Green Gym is an outdoor gym, very similar to an indoor gym – from cross trainers to
peck decks. We have carefully provided a range of equipment to suit all needs. The key differences
being that the equipment is found outdoors so it is robust, weatherproof and colorful. It does not use
weights for resistance, but rather one’s own body weight. The devices are inviting, and look more like
friendly playgrounds than intimidating fitness equipment. Green Gym parks provide a great opportunity
for all community members to enjoy fitness and healthy active.
The facilities are installed at the heart of well-kept public parks which are situated along running or
walking paths, senior homes, hotels, golf courses, military bases and many other open spaces situated
in villages and towns. Green Gym is also installed around children’s playgrounds providing a general
solution, both for people coming to work-out and for parents, siblings, grandparents and nannies who
want to do a little exercise while their children are playing nearby. Either way, the facilities promote
family and social interaction. Some were designed to allow for simultaneous use by two or four people,
another element contributing to the overall feeling of a playground.

WHO CAN USE GREEN GYM?
Everybody is free to use the equipment (Minimum age 6 with adult supervision,
for some units the minimum age is 13); there is no entry fees, subscription, or
dress code. There are written and pictorial guidance about how to use the
equipment on each piece of equipment.
WHY GREEN GYM?
Weights and gyms are not just for men who want big muscles. They are important for helping
weight loss, improving cardiovascular fitness and also in helping bones become stronger and
healthier.
Many community-based organizations, youth and adult serving groups, government agencies and
health organizations are asking profound questions about how to encourage Canadians to be

Exercise on the Air Walker reproduces the running motion, but avoids the problem runners may
experience through excessive impact on the feet and knees. A low-impact cardiovascular
exercise that strengthens muscles in the lower body.

Approaches: Sit down with you back against
the equipment and take
hold of the handgrip with both hands, and then
pull it down with your full strength. Revert
slowly.

Push the handles backwards and forwards,
replicating a rowing motion. This fun exercise
activated muscles in the upper back, lower back,
shoulders and biceps using your body weight as
resistance.
Function : Simulated rowing, this equipment works
the legs, deltoids, arm flexors and biceps.
Approaches : Sit in the rowing machine, put feet
on the pedals and grasp the handle
with both hands to draw it backwards from the
front.

Sit-up exercises improve the strength of the abdominal muscles and the
flexor group of muscles of the hip and upper thigh.
There are two distinct positions on the sit-up board, one with the feet down
and the other with the feet up, held under the support bar.

The Horizontal Bars are closely
associated with chin-ups, one of the
most basic pulling exercises. Chin-ups
are one of the best tests of a person's
strength to weight ratio -- a primary
indicator of upper body strength.
Hold onto high bar, use the arms to
pull up until the chin is level with or
above the bar. Lower again and repeat
according to your capability. This
exercise can be done with two hand
grips, forward or reverse, each
strengthening different muscles. The
forward grip (backs of hands facing
you) places more emphasis on the
trapezius and muscles of the back,
whereas the reverse, underhand grip is
narrower and places focus on the
biceps.

Olympic gymnasts perform on the Parallel Bars. A gold medal performance is the ultimate
display of agility and upper body strength.
Dips are one of the most basic exercises for developing the pectorals, deltoids and triceps.
Hold yourself at arm's length above the parallel bars and slowly lower yourself, bending until
the elbows pass the right angle (90 degrees). A greater range of motion, while remaining
comfortable, can help stretch the pectoralis.
Another effective strength and agility exercise is to start with straight arms above the bars
and "walk" with the hands down the length of the bars.

This apparatus has three rotational seats
which swivel to stretch the external and
internal obliques and the abdominals. It
serves, also, to align the spine and lower back.
Grasp the central bar with both hands in order
to keep the shoulders square. Place your feet
on, or under the foot rests. Twist your hips
from side to side, being sure to keep the
shoulders stationary throughout the motion.

BACK EXTENSION
The Back Extension equipment
strengthens the lower erector spinae
muscles of the lower back, as well as the
gluteus and hamstring areas. This will also
have the effect of improving posture and
stability.
To perform the exercise, lie forward on the
back extension bench with your thighs
resting against the green pad and the heels
held in the foot bracket. With your hands
behind your head, or arms across the
chest, slowly raise your upper body to a
high comfortable position, extending the
lower back until the lumbar curve is
increased. Hold briefly, then slowly lower
to the starting position. Perform this
carefully to protect the lower back.

The popular term "Monkey Bars", well describes this
apparatus. It helps build the kind of agility and upper
body strength exhibited by our primate friend.
Monkeys and humans share a well developed grip
and the teres major and latissimus dorsi muscles --
all involved in hanging, swinging and pulling skills.
Try swinging down the length of the bars, reaching
and grasping, overhand, one bar after the other.
Stronger and/or lighter individuals will be able to use
more of a bent

UNEVEN BARS
The UnEven Bars accommodate a variety of
strength exercises, including chin-ups and dips.
Chin-ups are one of the best exercises to build
shoulder strength and the biceps. They require
considerable strength. The bars can be set at a
heigth that allows a boost from the ground which
applies momentum to the pull. For increased
difficulty, stronger individuals can work without
foot contact so that the pull is unassisted. A
similar approach can be applied to the dips
exercise. Provide assistance with a boost from
the ground, or perform the exercise without
assistance.

POMMEL HORSE
The Pommel Horse apparatus features three exercise positions with bars which allow
assisted dips to be performed. Dips on the Parallel Bars are very difficult for most people, so
this apparatus is designed to preserve the value of the important tricep and shoulder exercise
for those who need less resistance. The resistance is controlled by the vertical force provided
by the legs. The feet are planted on the ground. The more the feet are underneath the body
the more support can be provided. Like the dips, push from a position with the elbows bent to
a straight armed position. Focus on the extension of the triceps.
The bars can also be used for angled push-ups and for abdominal exercises where the legs
and feet are lifted from the ground to form an "L" position.

VERTICAL JUMP
Vertical leaping ability is one of the most important sports
skills and one of the best tests of leg strength and
fitness. The distance that the center of gravity can be
raised is the difference between standing and jumping
reach, as measured on the calibrated plate. Ask your
training partner to judge the height of the maximum
leaping reach.
The apparatus can be approached from two sides. The
calibration scale is metric.

three bars are low rounded barriers which can be used for side-to-side frog
