The document describes several soft innovations proposed by Andrew Bakke for Texas A&M University. They include:
1. The Wall Resistor, a built-in resistance exercise band installed in walls that can retract for storage.
2. The Empty Pocket Reminder, an addition to washing machines that plays a reminder to empty pockets before washing clothes.
3. University Segway Transit, a system of Segways available to check out across campus to reduce walking distances.
4. The Insta-Sober Business Model, a way to market an "EpiPen-like" product that gives a shot of adrenaline to allow intoxicated people to drive soberly and reduce drunk driving.

3. Wall Resistor
Having trouble finding a simple
way to workout? Get the Wall
Resistor installed in your house
today!
Don’t want to deal with a ton of
resistance bands?
The Wall Resistor is a built in resistance
exercise band that can retract all the
way back into the wall and be
completely out of the way! The user
can simply spin a dial and set their
desired resistance and length of band
that they want to use. This means the
user only needs ONE resistance band.
With a push of a button the band
retracts back into the wall!
With retracting cable
technology in the
wall, the resistance band
will be completely out of
site when it’s not being
used!
4. Wall Resistor– Product
Who might/would use it?
People who work out with resistance bands or gyms.
What does the soft innovation do? How does it work?
The Wall Resistor is essentially a resistance band inside of a wall. A resistance band
handle will on a wall mount, which may slide up and down for change of height.
The band itself is wound up in the wall; kind of like a yo-yo. Before using it, a person
can spin the dial (on the outside of the wall mount) to select what resistance they
want, and a second dial to select the length of the band they want. The device will
allow the selected amount of slack and set the resistance for the user. It will stay like
this until the user presses the retract button, which retracts the band to its original
position, completely in the wall.
What does the soft innovation look like?
A resistance band wound up like a yo-yo inside of a wall mount that can slide in the
vertical direction. The wall mount would be a circle (for the dials) and feeds directly
into a section of the wall where the wound up resistance band would go.
What prompted you to develop this soft innovation?
This would be an easy, quick way to work out without large equipment or much
preparation.
What will you need to develop this soft innovation?
Someone to install the product, resistance band, wall mount, retracting technology

7. Empty Pocket Reminder
Tired of ruining your
clothes after leaving pens
in your pockets?
Devastated after leaving
your iPod in your pocket
when you put it in the
washing machine? The
Empty Pocket Reminder is
the solution!
The Empty Pocket Reminder is
an addition to a normal
washing machine that is simply
a gentle pre-recorded
reminder. It is a voice that
reminds the user to empty
his/her pockets before putting
his/her clothes into the
machine.
This innovation is so
easy! The technology
already exists; it is just
a simple reminder
that will prevent
annoying problems
while doing your
laundry!
8. Empty Pocket Reminder–
Process
What is the name of your innovation, and who might/would use it?
Everyone who uses a washing machine
What does the soft innovation do? How does it work?
There are already washing machines made today that can talk and make noises
letting you know that your clothes are ready. This innovation takes it a steps farther;
when someone opens his/her washing machine to put clothes in, a ore-recorded
reminder will sound reminding them to make sure all their pockets are empty of
valuables and pens.
What does the soft innovation look like?
Just a washing machine that can play a recording.
What prompted you to develop this soft innovation?
I have ruined multiple pairs of paints and shorts since I have started doing my own
laundry. I have also destroyed valuable that were left in my pockets.
What will you need to develop this soft innovation?
A washing machine that can playback a pre-recorded warning.

11. University Segway Transit
Tired of walking across campus every day
and being late to class? Take the University
Segway Transit!
There will be a holding station
outside every building on
campus where multiple
Segways will be held. When a
student who has a Segway
card wants to use one, they
swipe their card in the
designated area to unlock
one, take the Segway and ride
it to their destination on
campus. Once they get to their
destination, they can lock up
the Segway in the holding area
near the building their class is
in.
Segways are a great
alternative to having
to maneuver a bike
through the
crowded walkways!
12. Segway Transit – Service
What prompted you to develop this soft innovation?
My classes are very far away from each other and riding a
bike is annoying and difficult. A Segway is smaller than a
bike and is much faster than walking and less tiring.
What will you need to develop this soft innovation?
Many Segways purchased by a university; someone to
train potential Segway-ers; swiping/unlocking system that
will allow a student or faculty member to obtain a Segway
from the holding area.
What products, processes, services, business models, or
unique experiences/artistic creations exist, which are
similar to your soft innovation?

15. Insta-Sober Business
Car accidents happen too often
when someone makes the bad
decision to get behind the wheel after
they have had too much to drink.
Insta-Sober is an EpiPen-
like product that gives
the intoxicated user a
shot of adrenaline that
will allow him/her to
soberly drive home and
help prevent drunk
driving accidents.
With this new product, a new business
model is needed to market it. The main
target would be bars and clubs, who could
sell the product to prevent their customers
from driving home drunk. We would have to
work closely with alcohol distributors and
EpiPen developers to get this product
working and distributed.
16. Insta-Sober – Business
Model What is the name of your innovation, and who might/would use it?
Insta Sober Business Model
This would be used to market the Insta-Sober product.
What does the soft innovation do? How does it work?
The Insta-Sober product is essentially an EpiPen that will give the user a certain period of
sobriety so that they are able to drive home. The technology used here is similar to that
of an EpiPen (which is a shot of adrenaline to keep someone breathing), except it
would be altered to counteract intoxication of alcohol. The business model associated
with this is a way for the inventors to market it; often with new products, comes new
business models. The Insta-Sober company would distribute the product to alcohol
vendors and/or pharmacies, who would then distribute the product to the public.
What prompted you to develop this soft innovation?
Hearing about drunk driving accidents and wanting to come up with something that
could prevent that.
What will you need to develop this soft innovation?
Research, EpiPen technology
What products, processes, services, business models, or unique experiences/artistic
creations exist, which are similar to your soft innovation?

21. Forget Your Car Day at Texas
A&M– Unique Experience
What does the soft innovation do? How does it work?
Essentially the entire student body would be encouraged to only walk, run, ride a bike to campus to
help the environment and raise awareness for the environment.
Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of
exercise
What prompted you to develop this soft innovation?
This innovation helps the environment, saves gas for students, gives the city an opportunity to do
quick road work, and possibly even drives gas prices down.
Cars give off fumes that can be harmful to our environment if there is too much of them and that
means that cars are adding to the air pollution. It will cost a lot less money to ride public transit than
to pay for parking and gas for the day.
What will you need to develop this soft innovation?
Advertising, student body participation,
