• Golf may not be a contact sport, but injuries are
still prevalent among golf enthusiasts. For
professionals and amateurs alike, golf puts a lot
of strain on muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments,
and nerves. This usually leads to common golf
injuries. Proper stretching and correct posture
can help prevent injuries in general. However,
there are specific measures you can take to
prevent each of the injuries discussed below to
help you avoid them during your golf vacation in
Arizona.

• Back Injuries
Lugging your golf bag around the course can strain your back.
Your golf swing can also induce back pain. Aside from the pain,
symptoms of back injury include stiffness and muscle spasms.
Sometimes you will also experience numbness, pain, and weakening of
the legs when nerve irritation occurs. When you feel your back aching,
rest for a while to relive the pain. Relax your back to ease the pressure.
You can use ice packs to soothe your back. Take pain relievers if the
pain does not go away immediately. It is also advisable to consult a
doctor even before the pain becomes severe. To prevent back injuries,
use proper back mechanics when lifting your bag. Squat to retrieve a
ball instead of stretching your spine. You should also slow down your
back swing to minimize the stress on your lower back.

your grip and loosening the elbows when you take your
swing. Slow down your backswing and smoothly move on

• Shoulder Injuries
Swinging the club while maintaining a poor swinging form can
highly stress your shoulders. Be wary of pain on the upper arm as this
can mean that you have a shoulder injury. Rest and medication for pain
and swelling can give you comfort. Limiting the overhead use of your
shoulder can also help relieve the pain. Don’t forget to stretch as
stretching makes your shoulders flexible to help you avoid injuries. As
mentioned earlier, slowing down the backswing will put less stress on
your shoulders.
Your golf vacation in Arizona is the perfect time to play all the golf you
want, so don’t let an injury get in the way. Do the proper warm-up
exercises and condition your body before playing golf to stay in top
shape.
