A study measured the mating pairs of two flycatcher species - collared and pied flycatchers. The test statistic of 2664.6 from analyzing the frequencies of different mating pair combinations provides strong evidence that males and females do not mate indiscriminately regardless of species. The large value suggests the species assortatively mate within their own species rather than crossing species boundaries.
