Anyone who studies the importance of positive thinking comes to realise that the more positive our thoughts the more positive our life will be. Some see this as the practical outworking of psychological principles: It is almost impossible for someone to allow into their life something they feel they don't really deserve - they will find a way to sabotage themselves if they ever do attract that thing into their life.
Others see it as a "Law of the Universe", and that we are all affected by the "Law of Attraction", or the "Law of Vibration". Many consider the effects of the Power of the Subconscious Mind and how a person's unconscious beliefs affect their life and their ability to achieve their goals.
Amongst these varieties of approach to Positive Thinking there is the underlying idea that our thoughts and feelings need to be "positive" in order to create more positive experiences in our life. However, there is a problem…
The problem is that even if we realise the importance of being positive that is often not enough to help us stay positive. We may be overcome with a dark mood, or a sullen frame of thought. We may get caught up in anger and resentment. We may feel bitter about things that have happened to us in the past, or we may feel ashamed or guilty about things we have done. All these can cause our efforts to think higher and better thoughts to be very difficult sometimes.
2. A positive attitude is essential to happiness, joy, and progress in life.
This state of mind brings light, hope and enthusiasm into the life of
those who possess it.
Adopting it in our life does not mean that everything will always move
smoothly and there will be no bumps on the road….
it ensures that any setback we might encounter will not stop us or
change our state of mind, and that you will go on, try again, and do our
best despite any setback.
3. Positive attitude is a state of mind that
envisions and expects favorable results.
14. Start a gratitude journal.
There’s so much for which to be grateful in life, so why not remind ourself of
that on a daily basis?
A gratitude journal is a wonderful way to stay positive every day with little to
no effort. Once a day, we can jot down at least three aspects of our day for
which we feel thankful. They can be as small large!
15. Treat yourself to some self-care every day.
It’s always important to take care of both our physical and
mental health. It can feel overwhelming when we are working
a full-time job that requires us to constantly interact with
people -- whether they be customers, prospects, co-workers, or
managers -- in often high-pressure situations.
16. Start every morning strong.
It’s easier to maintain a positive attitude all day if you implement it
right when you open your eyes.
Consider waking up a half hour or an hour earlier than usual. Put on
your favorite music or show.
When your morning is more productive and less rushed, you’ll be sure
to head to work in higher spirits. That morning glow will spread
throughout your day, and then the cycle can repeat.
17. Take real breaks.
In a busy, eight-hour day, it can sometimes be difficult to find time for a
serious break. That means leaving the workspace, having a meal, and
putting away all work-related information.
Working for eight hours straight can make you feel sluggish and irritated.
A break -- even for 30 minutes -- can re-energize you and make you more
motivated to continue your work for that day. Give yourself time to
refuel your positivity, and you’ll be sure to end the day on a better note.
18. Have something to look forward to after work….
The point is to craft your days to be more than just “work.” By
penciling in some fun time several days a week, you can find a
healthy way to balance your personal and professional life.
19. Practice meditation….
Practicing meditation can do a lot to decrease stress and anxiety, as well
as improve mental and spiritual health
Those who practiced the meditation showed changes in brain activity in
areas focused on optimism and positive thinking.
Decreases anxiety
20. Focus on the long-term instead of the short-term.
When a conflict arises -- either with a coworker or with a customer -- your
immediate reaction might be to jump to the defense. You want to protect
yourself and garner respect, which is a good thing. However, the more
conflicts in which you partake, the more negativity will surround your life.
21. Listen to music ……
that matches your mood.
It seems ironic, but sad music may actually help boost your
mood. According to a research study, many people tune into sad
songs as a form of mood enhancement. Many consider sad music
to be “beautiful,” which helps people feel better. In addition, sad
songs can invoke memories, distract from negative situations,
and carry strong messages.
22. •Surround yourself with positive people.
•The old saying “birds of a feather flock together” can be viewed two ways.
Either people who are similar naturally find each other, or people in a group
become the same over time.
•Surround yourself with positive people.
•If you’re always with negative people who complain about everything,
you’ll become a complainer and see the world as negative as they do. You
might think you can stay positive and change them, but that’s not going to
be the case.
•Try to connect with people who like their job, have new ideas, and are
interested in lots of other things besides work. It’ll make your whole outlook
better.
23. Control your language….Being conscious of the words you use when speaking
and thinking.
The structure of language affects a person’s view of the world, and the way they think.
Taken to the furthest extent, your language actually limits or delineates how you are
able to perceive the world.
It’s a hypothesis, granted.
But on a smaller level, the language you use every day, both in thought and spoken
word, has a cumulative effect on how you think about yourself, your work, and those
around you.
24. Be nice to other people.
Being kind to other people makes you happy.
If you make being nice to other people a regular thing, it’ll become a cycle of
generosity and happiness that makes you feel good and causes those around you
to feel happy as well.
Appreciating and recognizing coworkers can go a long way in making your day
better.
25. Don’t rely on an outside source of positivity.
Carry a positive attitude with you.
Think of a positive attitude like a survival tool: carry it with you at all times for
emergencies.
Whether you rely on a phrase that you repeat over and over when times are
stressful or you have some other trick to help resurrect and keep a positive
attitude, be sure to come up with a mechanism that doesn’t rely on someone
else or a specific situation.
26. Create high points in each day and week.
You can create the same effect by creating small “high points” in each day to help you
get through projects or days that might otherwise seem draining. This is why taking
breaks is important, but not every break is as valuable as they could be.
But…
Don’t turn to unhealthy food as a reward.
Take breaks outside or away from work when possible.
Consider a walk, solitude, silence, read a book not related to work.
Daily high points should be small and simple, not requiring money or creating a habit
that could have negative effects on your health or budget if you do them every day
(e.g. walk to the bakery for a donut and coffee every day).
27. Stop complaining.
Complaining does nothing. If you’re around people who
complain a lot, get away from them. Try to see the situation
in a positive or different light.
Complaints are a way of seeing everything in a negative light
without considering any other explanation. It’s a one-way
road to dissatisfaction that builds the further you travel it.
28. Fake it until you make it!
You often have to fake it until the real deal arrives.
Don’t feel happy? Don’t feel excited about a
presentation? Fake it. More often than not, the real
emotion will show up. You’re not going to feel super
excited and positive every day, but don’t let that
stop you from the behavior that goes along with it,
anyway.
Drive your emotions; don’t let them drive you.
29. Friends….
“You are as young as your faith,
as old as your doubt;
as young as your confidence,
as old as your fear;
as young as your hope,
as old as your despair……….
In the central place of every heart, there is a recording chamber; so long as
it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer and courage; so long as you are
young.
When the wires are all down and your heart is covered with snows of
pessimism and the ice of cynicism, then and only then are you grown old.”
